You would think a service organization would make sure the technician they're sending to your house for an annual service, on an appointment made weeks in advance, was trained in the specific equipment they were going to service, and that if they hadn't been sent to an actual training class that they had at least taken a half hour to watch an online video published by the burner manufacturer. Not Oliver. They sent a young guy who didn't even know what screws to remove on the burner to access the nozzle, and he didn't re-seat the assembly properly. Our smooth-firing burner went to one having false starts that continually blew itself out. A couple of callbacks later, it was working OK again. So there is "depth on the bench" at Oliver, but their rookie training really needs an overhaul. read more

4 years after installation of Heat Pump, during sale of my home, the East Goshen Town Supervisor found issues with "unfinished" issues with installation not effecting pump functions. However they needed to be addressed. I contacted Oliver. Jen and Susie were on it. Steve from Installation, Technicians, Trey and his partner, and Installer Tom who actually did repair, were caring and understood the sense of urgency. The repair was completed very satisfactory. Almost 600.00 to clear bathroom sink and reset garbage disposal which didn't last a month. Called them and wanted payment before even coming back out. Had to call Horizon who finally told us our kitchen sink was not equipped to have a garbage disposal. Had to have it all taken out new pipes installed. Oliver ultimately too 100 off the bill and still have to pay nearly 400 to unclog drains. Never again read more

Oliver installed our high velocity air conditioning system years ago, and in 2019 we had a problem with it where it kept shutting down. Oliver came out and told us we needed to replace all of the equipment. The next day we got another opinion and the other company said it was a burned out wire, and replaced it for $20.00. This week, we're seeing a similar problem. And because it's so hot we took the first available appointment we could find and it was with Oliver. They told us they would charge us $89 to come out to look at it. We said okay and dude showed up today, two hours early at 8am. We met him out by the unit and described the problem, and that we thought it might just be a wire again. He immediately informed us that there would be an additional charge of $250 in order to look at the unit and diagnose the issue. I asked him what the $89 was for if it wasn't for him to do the analysis of diagnosis. He looked uncomfortable and didn't respond so I added, "Was it for you to wave in at us from the van?" We refused to continue to conversation, told him to sue us for the $89.00, and went inside and closed the door. We later received an invoice for an $89 "arrival fee" which will never be paid. My husband remembered taking a picture of the receipt from the first time when the guy replaced the wire and was able to find it on his phone -- by asking his Google Assistant to show him pictures of receipts! We reached out to Old Skool HVAC and they came the same day despite the heatwave, and are fixing the problem now for a very reasonable cost.. Oliver should pretty much be put out of business because of their trickery and deceptive tactics. read more

Be aware that in addition to the $89 arrival fee there is also a diagnostic fee. Even after I confirmed that the only additional fees were if work was to be done, they wanted to charge almost $300 for less than 10 minutes of work to say the coils were dirty. The price to clean them was quoted at $600 or if I join as a member for $24 a month, they could clean them for $58. Very disappointed. I would rather go without air conditioning than use a company that is not upfront with pricing. read more

BEWARE: THIS PLACE WILL SCAM YOU! Long story short, I was told that my heating system was unsafe and needed to be replaced. The technicians were only at my house for a maintenance check; I was not having any issues with my heater. I was shown photos of supposed "cracks" in the system. They even turned off my heat and claimed I couldn't safely use it. Sure enough, their "slick" salesman called me quickly after this and claimed he was going to give me a great deal on a new HVAC system, $25,000! Oh, but he was going to knock off $500 and do some special financing JUST FOR ME (how nice!). Unfortunately they targeted someone too smart for them. I didn't fall for any of it. I had a second opinion from another company that also found "cracks", however these cracks were in a different area altogether that looked nothing like what Oliver showed me. They gave me a quote of $12K for a new system. Seems like a great deal, right? Well...maybe. But, then a friend of a friend stepped in who has been in HVAC for 15 years and told me that both companies are scamming me. He used a tool to check the air quality from my heating unit and said it was, in fact, very safe. Neither Oliver or the other company did this. They simply took photos and lied to me. So, be careful out there! Oliver is the worst of the worst in my opinion. Preying on a single mom?? I'm sure they also go after elderly people too. Shame on them. We inherited our Oliver heating system from the previous homeowner so we didn't have a choice, but my experience has been terrible - stay away from this company. Our heating went out right as the first snow came: - $89 arrival for a guy to show up and then $100+ "analysis" fee (which gets waived if you buy services) - Had to order an OEM part which we waited for - Because we're freezing obviously tried to schedule installation as soon as possible. Confirmed Saturday (day 4 of no heat), I call to check if they're coming and they tell me it's been scheduled for Wednesday somehow - FOUR DAYS. This is after sitting on hold many times to talk to someone - I don't know how "we are freezing so yes let's schedule this for Saturday" somehow got interpreted as next Wednesday. I'm not blaming any one particular person - the tech was helpful enough and no one was rude - but the overall pricing, responsiveness and scheduling was terrible. read more

This is a company you hire if you have a lack of vacation days from work and need ac/heating related work done. They do clean ducts too and are able to offer an estimate right over e-mail. However, if you want a physical or electronic file estimate, I think that was going to be a charge. The total amount they would charge is exorbitantly higher than other places I considered. I'm under the impression they would charge the same rate whether it was during their normal hours or during their extended hours. I could more understand charging (more) premium for less standard hours, but for regular hours and without detail to provide of why they should charge that much. To have to pay for an estimate- it just seems like a big downer to have to consider if that was the case, which I believe it was since I didn't have details of what they would/could do besides that I got a total price. read more

I previously used Oliver to service some issues with my furnace (see old review). This past Friday I had the chance to use their plumbing services... It all started when I went to use my hose to rinse my bird feeders, but when I turned it on the water pressure was very low. I then noticed that water was pouring out from under the siding of my house. I shut-off the hose and went inside to find my basement covered with water. The hose line had burst! And not only that, it was located RIGHT ABOVE MY CIRCUIT BREAKER. Needless to say, this wasn't something I wanted to drag out. I called Oliver and a plumber (Tony) was at my house no less than an hour later. He isolated the issue, explained how it happened, and offered me some resolutions. I opted to have him replace the pipe and to also have him install a hose-specific shut-off valve. He did all of this in about 90 minutes and also replaced the drop-ceiling tiles and cleaned up after himself. Anyone entering my basement that evening would have been none the wiser to the earlier scene. Oliver is definitely not cheap, but they are QUICK and have a lot of skilled technicians in their employ. read more

Had seven technicians in my home last summer for the same issue on our central AC (a Trane system installed in 2011 and serviced by Oliver) when it kept shutting down. By late August, they made a "temporary fix" while awaiting for a part from Trane. Finally this spring, the part, never having come, they replaced the air handler and coil (or so they said). So today (8/10/24) system dies, Oliver sends a tech, and three hours later, the system dies again. Now, with a service contract still in hand, must wait for a call back tomorrow to have another visit. Do yourself a favor, and avoid Oliver. There are other, better HVAC contractors available. As for us, we will be contacting one of them shortly, while also contacting an attorney to get the thousands of dollars we gave Oliver in 2021 BACK. Purchase a piece of mind contract, as part of a plumbing inspection; it was determined that I needed a pressure reducing valve, an expansion tank, and new stainless steel hoses for a washer. The initial technician that came to the house to inspected the plumbing was excellent, and the technician that came to fix all the issues was also excellent; both experienced and knowledgeable plumbers; however, my complaint is with the owners of this company that charge prices that are more than double of what the actual price for this type of work should be. The 10% discount on work is a mere pittance of what you can save if you get someone else to do the work. read more

Used Oliver for years after they did a nice job installing our old HVAC unit at a decent price. Sadly the company has changed and they are turning into Horizon. Maybe a great business model for the owners but not customers. Overpriced and every service technician pushed to up sell with unnecessary services and upgrades. Needed a new HVAC system recently. The sales man came around and when we told him that we had a quote from Costco he was indignant. I had been a customer for years and they didn't even try and compete and were flexible. The quote was many thousands more. So we installed with Costco (-who subcontracted to a large local company that did a great job!) and then cancelled our service plan. Two months and two phone calls later they are still charging us the monthly service fee. What kind of a business is this?! I totally agree with all these negative reviews. This company is criminally negligent. My heater stopped working a couple days ago. When their service man came last nite, he barely looked at the unit, and advised me I needed a complete replacement for $12,000, that whatever was wrong with it was unrepairable. I am an 85 year old woman, living alone. I am now without heat for the indefinite future. To make matters worse, when my other heater stopped working a couple of months ago, they also told me without really inspecting it, that it needed to be replaced and I listened to them. Wow, it's unbelievable how unprofessional, overpriced, and incompetent this company is. They had installed new heating system, done HVAC maintenance and evaluated A/C issues. Made errors, missed problems, and didn't get back to us in promised time frame while we didn't have A/C during heat wave. Overcharged for services. Quotes were five thousand more dollars than competition for the exact same services. Spoke with Roger to try to resolve issues but to no avail. Do not recommend using them. And I have to say the last few years I have noticed a decline service, though, yesterday's (10-11-2023) service was the WORST EVER!!! The lack of professionalism from the first service guy. - First of all, he "rooted" through the basement to find something to sit and I heard the noise so investigated. He used a 6 gallon paint can as a "chair". If he needs a place to sit when he comes to houses, he should bring a portable bench! Or at least ask me for chair, not just 'root' through my basement! - From upon arrival at 10:50am he proceeds to take an 75 minutes to use a camera technology to review the heat exchanger versus even doing any maintenance on my system...he didn't even flush the drains with water or vacuum out the small bits of outside debris/dust! I only know this as I went down stairs to investigate and found him immersed in the camera and taking photos. Trying to tell me not to panic but there is some minor rust, etc. and maybe we can do a warranty deal to replace heat exchanger and he can call Carrier. I said well, let's discuss when you are done the maintenance. (NOTE: the second service guy same day, said rust is part of normal wear and tear on a system that is almost 10 years old and it's fine for now, though, start to think about replacement in the next few years) - Upon my return upstairs, I noticed the Nest Thermostat was no longer on. That is odd, as it's always on since it's hard wired/sealed rechargeable lithium battery¬. So, I raise this concern to him. He then says, maybe I need a new one or go check the WIFI. I said please look at your records as you installed in September 2021. He got quite defensive saying he didn't touch the thermostat, which is untrue as he had to turn it up to put on heat and it's that thing that makes the HVAC run temperatures. So, he did touch it and clearly whatever he was doing the basement made this issue arise. I showed him the error code (E73 - RC wire not receiving power). He was 200% perplexed and spent 30 more minutes spinning his wheels. I then tried to ask him did he need to get another person here to assist as I had places to be and he was at my house almost 2 hours (for again maintenance). He then starts to get all frustrated with me telling me I broke it and I need a new Nest. He told me called his manager to state I was yelling at him and was sure I taped his the conversation and left in a huff not completing the maintenance or solving the Nest issue. Lack of respect of time of the customer: I own a second home in OCNJ, and the annual maintenance is done in an hour and they say that upfront, plan for an hour. Kevin took over 75 minutes to use his camera and do nothing else. Then another 30 minutes without a resolution to troubleshoot the Nest. That is almost 2 hours when i started waiting at 8am since I had the 8-12 window!! I then had to wait until 239pm to get the second tech out who took until 415pm to fix the NEST and complete an inspection. In order to make this happen, I had to cancel my 345pm appointment and push my dinner back to 6pm. Time is a precious resource we never get back and I wasted an entire day... Poor Quality of Service: You installed the Nest Thermostat in September 2021 and an easy install at that. Your service guy installed it incorrectly by not connecting the C line and you charged me $528.20. So, sad I didn't even get good quality service for a simple service. How can I trust you to do any major fixes on my HVAC when you can't install a thermostat properly. read more

Maintenance is a scam. Techs are nice, but the office/bosses only care about money. Prices for service are higher than most, they negotiate on equipment. Like many reviews say, the maintenance plans are sketchy, somehow don't cover whatever problem you're having. After a few years on a maintenance contract on the gas heater/AC they installed, we learned that the humidifier wasn't covered, and that they never serviced it or mentioned that it wasn't being checked/maintained. We found out because a few weeks after this year's service visit, the humidifier leaked and the office was only too happy to tell us we should have been paying extra, even though it wasn't offered or mentioned. I would have been happy to pay for the additional work - I had a similar leak before and know it's worthwhile. Thanks for the wet carpet. read more

We called for an estimate to add approximately 15 foot of natural gas line (tap into existing tee) to hook up a gas range. My husband was told when he called that the fee would be $89.00 for them to come out and provide us with an estimate. When the technician arrived in our kitchen, he advised us that there would also be an additional analysis fee of $107.00, which was never previously mentioned. Apparently the $89.00 is just an arrival fee! Very dishonest if you ask me. The estimate for this work was $l,122.00, unless we signed up for their plumbing maintenance plan and then the cost would be $1,009.80, which we thought was still quite outrageous for the relatively small job. Our experience was not good. The tech was friendly but could not get up to our air handler because he did not have the "correct ladder". He had an extension ladder that would have worked but did not want to use it as he would need to set it against the wall?? Big Deal set it against the wall. Second he was supposed to change the filters and he said he would need to go to the store to get the correct filter?? What A/C company does not carry a ladder or filters. This isn't rocket science. When we asked what he was going to bill us for his time - he couldn't even answer that. Worthless appointment with a smile. Oh, he did recommend another A/C company we could call to get the work done that we had booked him for. My assessment of this company is they only want to charge you an $89.00 to arrive and $111.00 for a quick assessment of what it "could" be and then they want to pass you off to another firm why they go on there merry way collecting and collecting and not doing a damn thing. Oliver ripped off my 90 year old father when he had a no heat service call in March 2022.They charged him 1400 dollars to replace a control board that sells for between 400 -500 dollar range. Other contractors confirmed to me that the normal rate for this repair was approximately 1000 dollars in our area. We will never use this contractor again. read more

$300 to install a thermostat. Buyer beware. Came in yesterday and cleaned the burners in our furnace, replaced a flame safety device and installed a thermostat that I purchased. The gentleman was in my house for a total of an hour. Half was spent trying to sell me up to $8,500 worth of stuff among 5 other options down to $534.78, which included the installation of the self provided thermostat which took about 5 minutes to install. When I looked at the invoice this morning, of the $534 invoice, $297 of it was for the 5 minutes to install the thermostat that I provided! I called and they told me "that's what we charge" they called me back and offered a free service plan for a year which essentially gives you 10% off parts and labor. (I was told it was a $178 value. ) what good is 10% off when you charge 10,000% more than what's reasonable. I told them to keep it. I can't do business with someone I don't trust! STAY AWAY if there were zero stars, they would get that! read more

They're nothing but salesmen. Don't use them. Don't even call them to come and assess the problem because they'll charge you $89 ONLY TO ARRIVE at your residence. Then, they'll tack on $111 minimum in analysis fees. So you'll be paying at least $200 for them to tell you there's a problem and then you'll waste 15 minutes listening to their sales pitch. They tried to explain to us that repairing our HVAC would cost more than $9000. Replacing our system will cost an additional $4-5k so we'd be looking at about $14-15k. ok..this morning was 11yr old Trane heater, installed by Oliver stopped working...Called Oliver and they sent a repair guy (who was very nice) out later today, I was told about the $89.00 fee. Technician finds out I have a bad Igniter... His price $646.00 to install this unit, which took all but 3 minutes. I then google search the part after he installs and leaves ...the same exact part# on grainger.com for $145.39 and on a less know website: supplyhouse.com for #60.76. WTF!!! So basic, I could of installed it... I just sent Oliver a email asking why the price difference Let's see what they come back with?????? and if positive I will adjust these comments to more positive. ***UPDATE*** Oliver called me back, pretty much stated tooo bad...$646.00 for a $60.00 part and for it to be installed in 15minutes is a fair price. The technician showed up and said he thought there might be something weird with the wiring, but he wasn't sure, so a senior technician would be out that same day or the next day to take a look. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Very misleading company. I was led to believe that the $89 fee was for an estimate (which is what I was told on the phone). When the guys showed up, they told us that there was an additional $90 diagnostic fee...so whether or not they did any work, we were out $179. The $89 is for their employees to show up at your door only. THIS WAS IN NO WAY COMMUNICATED TO ME OVER THE PHONE. The 2 men they sent were nice, and also expressed their disapproval of the methods used to trap hardworking people into using their business or force them out of almost $200. I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau regarding this matter, because I very clearly asked the woman on the phone if the $89 fee would be the only charge for an estimate and she led me to believe this was true. They force you into spending $179 to tell you about a problem you already know exists (thus, why you're calling them) or stiff arm you into buying some extending plan that was $150 more than the other quotes I received from local businesses FREE OF CHARGE. Avoid this company at all costs. Have been using Oliver since about 2000. Really can't see us using them again. Our A/C broke. Called them out. $89 call out fee. Fair enough. First technician canceled - did not know about our system. No problem. Second technician comes out. Charges us an additional $100 for the privilege of telling us he can't fix it and that we should call the manufacturer. So we did, and got it fixed with the help of another company. I sent two or three emails asking for more information about this extra charge, but received no reply. (I did get a voicemail after a couple of days saying they'd send someone else out to look at the unit but, by that point, we were up and running.) Seems to me that if you can't fix something then the $89 call-out-fee should be all you're charging. read more

I found the basement flooded with 9" of water on an early Friday night, and alerted Oliver of my emergency. They initially sent a heating technician within about an hour or so, but he could not fix the problem; however, he turned off the water supply and disconnected the indoor heating unit due the amount of water (no charge), and contacted Oliver to send a plumber. The plumber arrived later that evening, and thankfully located the leak and repaired the water heater. I purchased a maintenance plan to save 10% on repairs and to ensure my plumbing is maintained during the year. I agree with another reviewer, who stated that Oliver is definitely not cheap, but they were QUICK in responding to my emergency and have a lot of skilled technicians in their employ. read more

Don't use these guys, they WILL try to rip you off. Called to have a simple job done....primary control on a Beckett oil burner. This clown quoted the part cost $1,100 plus a ton of other nonsense that would have to be done in order to get the old boiler up and running. All lies! I already knew what the issue was. A primary control for an oil burner will run you around $140 + $120 for installation. Guy ended up doing zero and tried to charge $270. Laughable excuse for a company. Lots of radio marketing in the Philly area....don't be fooled by the stupid jingle! Once again, these guys will try their best to rip you off. read more

Short Summary: I cannot recommend OLIVER services at all. Their sales approach has been shady and was based on pressure on the street! The results of their work do neither reflect any customer service oriented approach nor does it show quality of workmanship. Otherwise, I cannot explain why for the same problem multiple technicians have to come out to fix it over and over again an (bleeding a radiator!). Reason for my impression of OLIVER Heating services: I called OLIVER to service a radiator heating system. They found "major issues" and immediately shut off the entire system. Since I was not at the house when they did this, I was called to come over. As soon as I arrived, they caught me in front of my house. There were 2 OLIVER guys who brought up pressuring sales talk. They wanted me to choose from 3 options right now. All these options costs' were from $2,000 up to $6,000, "The Cadillac" of heating systems how they called it. Of course, I wanted to see the options/offers on paper to evaluate them and to get another opinion. They refused to hand out anything written about their offer. I was told I only can choose one of those 3 options. Furthermore, they stated I have to pay that right now right here to get this started. Since the entire heating system has been shut down, this was an intense pressuring moment. At this point, I rejected everything. They should invoice their "service fee" which was the reason I called them and then leave. He processed my payment of $99 for an "inspection" (09/11/2020). During the processing of the payment, I learned that a normal repair of my system with some replacement parts is $729. This was not an option on their "top secret options list" before. So, I asked for this repair which was done by Oliver (09/18/2020). A few weeks later after this "service" and "repair" the heating season started. Now guess what: the system did not heat properly. I called again and asked if they tested the system which they serviced and repaired a few weeks before. OLIVER wanted me to preauthorize $89 for them just to come out and check their very own "work". Additionally, I had to authorize $150 in case of any repairs needed. The heating system did not work because the radiators had not been bleed during their inspections and repairs before. For this bleeding service now they have charged $247.20 (11/09/2020). To compare this kind of service situation: Imagine you go to a car shop for an inspection and they say all is fine. But then you realize the car does not have tires at all. It is a car, but will not drive! This is exactly what happened to me with OLIVER. They serviced my heating system - but did not check if it heats. Really? Again, now a few weeks later the heating system did not work. I called to make them fix their own work again. They refused to come out and fix it unless I preauthorize $89 again. A service guy showed up by 8:30 pm. He bled the radiator again. This time they did not charge just the authorized $89. These people came to my home on 06/19/2023 I call them a few days ahead complaining about my plumbing pipes being stopped up. They advertise that they would unclog any stoppage for $100.00 or they would not accept a fee. One of their employees who claim to be a Master plumber came to my home and claimed that they were not able to locate the outside sewage pipe, and as a result ,they would need to quote me three different prices to stop the drain problem. 1st. price was for $800.00 for utilizing a sewer inspection camera, run camera from rear of building to drain toward front. 2nd price was $1,000 third price was $1,720.00 Amazing! After taking my $90.00 they did not lift a finger to stop my clog. I called "Honesty Plumbing Company" the next day. They came to my home and took care of my plumbing issue and took pictures of the problem: all for the price of $225.00 I pray blessings over this wonderful Father and Son plumbing Company. read more

Oliver's work is O.K., but their prices are absurd. I called to have a toilet replaced. They said there was an $89 "arrival fee" which is high. (I live 5 minutes from their business.) But I understand that they won't come out for nothing. Many businesses have an initial charge, which they deduct from the final bill if you end up having the work done. Not Oliver. The thing that clinched my bad review was their $101 "Analysis Fee." I told them I needed a toilet installed. What's to analyze? So, I ended up paying almost $200 on top of their marked up parts and overpriced labor charges. Do not use Oliver. read more

Very disappointed with the results of the emergency service call. I found my in-laws heater not running 50 degrees in the house and going lower. Sunday call cost me almost 500.00. This emergency was to get my heater repaired and started back up because it is winter. The service tech quickly went from repair/start up diagnosis to replacement/ major repair mode. After scoping the heater firebox area with a miniature camera, I was told and shown some rusting. Even a 4 year old heater has rust inside. Repairs were tossed out about 3200.00/4500.00 and up to 10,000.00 for replacement and or repairs. I was never given a confirmed repair for my no start/ running condition. Put portable heater in basement and drained the water to be safe. Out almost 500.00, called another tech on Monday. Tech had heater start-up 20 minutes into visit. 10 minutes later was informed the board was bad. Replaced board next day and heater has been running as usual. Found out later only a two star company on Google. I think I am due a refund. Will not be calling again. Thanks, JohnnyD. read more
