For those interested in learning the great sport of SCUBA, you will not find a more knowledgeable group of professionals. As awesome and safe as SCUBA is in the 21st century, without proper training it is still dangerous. So, when one's life depends on skills and equipment knowledge one should seek out those who can impart those life preserving skills the best and that would be The Dive Shop! On top of that, Randy and his crew, across the board, treat everyone like family and long lost friends as soon as you walk through the door! Their service department is second to none as well, so if you are already certified and just need your equipment brought up to date you can count on them to do it right and do it quickly.

If you're reading this - you probably fit under one or more of the following: 1) You're considering becoming a diver, 2) You're a diver new to the area; 3) You need to find a local place to service or buy equipment. I think I can recommend them on all these points. I got qualified as a diver there in 2008. They've answered my questions, given me advice. The training has prepared me for events both expected and not, thus enabling me to have fun instead of fear. In short, they've literally kept me alive. They have instructors with varying personalities. I think it's safe to say that all of them have the skills to help you gain certification/improve. However, they all have different personalities. I'd recommend asking about that - perhaps even going as far as interviewing instructors to gauge compatibility. They've arranged purchases and travel, even when I wasn't buying from them. Some items can be bought cheaper through the internet, but we will always need a local shop to provide pool training, fill our tanks and such, so I frequent them to help keep them open. They organize group dive trips to exotic locations at a fair price. During the summer they get small groups to go to local quarries so you can both practice and gain friendships. I met my primary dive buddy in this manner (having a dive buddy allows you to dive more often!). They're not perfect, but they're all about encouraging/enabling you to get out and dive. Can't ask for more than that.

It was started in the 1930s by Mexican sculptor Dionicio Rodríguez and is covered with tons of quartz crystals, religious sculptures and biblical scenes depicting the life of Jesus as well as grottos, bridges, and concrete landscapes. After crossing into the cave you'll find scenes depicting: - The Nativity - The Last Supper - The Resurrection - Various Old and New Testament stories And it's all illuminated by colored lights reflecting off the crystal-covered walls. It's one of those things you have to see to fully appreciate and it's absolutely worth a visit. Admission is free and it's easy to find once in the cemetery (there's plenty of signs pointing the way) and parking is easy. Definitely don't miss this if you're in Memphis. Pro Tip: it's located near the grave of soul music legend Isaac Hayes so if you're into music history you may want to package the two stops together.

My mom and I hopped on the trolly (which was totally charming to us out-of-towners) and checked out the awesome art scene that Memphis has to offer. This was a great way for us to get to know the city a little bit better and showed us the hospitality of the local artists. Fast forward to me actually living in Memphis and making this a monthly adventure of mine (I even ended up interning for one of the galleries)! I think this is a wonderful way to show off the South Main neighborhood to people who live out in the suburbs, visitors, and people who may be new to the city; a FREE event, awesomely talented artists (with beautiful art to peruse), wine, snacks, and a wonderfully underrated neighborhood to explore and you have got one special mixture! Not to mention, the galleries and artists involved are worth the trip downtown even if you're not going as a part of the trolley tour; these folks are as good as it gets: friendly, talented, and wonderful conversationalists. What are you waiting for? Go on a trolley tour already!!!
The Be end and Street of Blues Dreams!…read more Welcome to Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee. Let the memories of the past be here in the present. The ghosts of the past are here are you ready to discover and see them. When in Memphis, this is a must! Well I don't drink! That's all right! They have mocktails if you need them. Or a mixed cocktail. Whatever wets your whistle. Hair of some sort of a dog. Now Beale Street is not Las Vegas, maybe during its hey days. Let's go back to circa 1920-1940s this was a black owned atmosphere that boomed. It shook all night with nightclubs, restaurants, theaters and of course the music. W.C. Handy and wrote" Mr Crump," being the Father of the Blues! He made the blues a word of mouth bit. Muddy Waters and Bb King among others performed in these juke joints. The blues thrived and made the area strong. At the beginning of the 1960s Beale Street fell into decay. Elvis was a regular visitor here moving to Memphis when he was only 13. He was signed to Sun Records in November of 1955. The likes of Beale Street were more the local screaming joy rather than a tourist attraction. In 1966, it was added to the national historic register to preserve the cultural significance and iconic heritage. In the 80s to the present day it's a great place to see. Be prepared to bring your actual identification card from your local place of residence or you will not be able to get through security. Vegas could learn from the heighten security measures here. Everyone shows id or you don't get in. They take security precautions and very strict measures here. It makes an individual feel safe. It is a metallic abstract sculpture, composed of columns, funnels, seating, and a roof-like structure. From the artist's statement, "A swathe of something--it could almost be a liquid--swoops out from under the glass overhang above the entrance to the building. It's as if a liquid has been flung out from under, and frozen in the air." The ceiling is lowered to create columns. The column's bottom is built out into a ring of seats, and the roof above reflects the pavement below, giving the impression that you are sitting inside the ground. You can enter the column and create seats inside by folding up the surface, which separates into an arch. You are outside while inside the column because the wall that surrounds reflects the sky. It's an immersive and interactive artwork. [Review 19843 overall - 395 in Tennessee - 816 of 2023.]
