Coppa Spuntino - Cute outdoor/indoor restaurant

Coppa Spuntino

Newly opened Coppa Spuntino builds on the success of its highly rated sibling establishments,…read morePublic and Red Hook, to bring a modern Italian cuisine in a casual yet elegant venue in the inner city. Located on Creek Street, Coppa is designed in the form of a long, narrow space with the bar down one side and seating down the other side. There is also seating along the bar and outside. On a passing glance it may appear as just a bar with its sleek black and white fitout and tiled floor, although one might notice the quaint, mosaic-tiled pizza oven on the rear wall, but Coppa is hiding a full food menu. The food menu caters to any occasion and consists of a range of small Italian share plates - spuntino, charcuterie, pizzas, cheeses, main dishes and desserts. Dishes of note include the burrata, octopus, truffled gnocchi and porchetta. On this visit I ordered the octopus, served with chorizo and potato in the form of a salad. The flavours of tender, well-cooked octopus combined well with the subtle spice and acidity of the chorizo and balanced out by the potato and leaves. A great starting dish and perfect for sharing with the octopus cut up into mouthful sized pieces. This was followed by the veal cotoletta with parmesan and rocket and a side of green beans with spinach and goats cheese. The herb crumbing of the cotoletta was perfect with the just the right amount of crunch and evenly wrapped around the tender veal cutlet. The parmesan-topped rocket salad was a nice touch on the side. The green beans were an excellent side dish with the slowly melting goats cheese adding some welcomed rich flavours. Dessert was an interesting dish, rosemary panna cotta with raspberries and sweet crumbs. Rosemary is a welcomed changed over the usual vanilla bean with its refreshing, light floral flavours. Service was great and was what was to be expected of a bar-style venue. Coppa Spuntino brings some good value, fine dining-quality dishes in a relaxing, casual, but still classy atmosphere to the inner city, mirroring what can be found at its sister restaurants.

I had the - Radicchio, Fennel, Witlof Salad - Sandcrab, Prawn, Lemon Butter, Chilli Linguini - Clams with Linguini - and The Tiramisu. Everything was made perfectly and delicious. Especially the Tiramisu. That was actually the best Tiramisu I've ever tasted! I will definitely be coming back often before I leave. And I highly recommend this place. I'm just happy this restaurant is walking distance from my hotel.

Verve Restaurant & Cider House - Cheesy garlic bread

I was cruising around Brisbane in my Lamborghini Countach when it unexpectedly broke down. Whilst I…read morewas waiting for RACQ, I spotted this cute cider house called Verve. I decided a spot of cider was in order and wandered on in, oblivious, of course, to the fact that there was a huge chocolate stain on my blouse. My little demon of a granddaughter spilled her chocolate ice cream all over my Countach, and some of it got onto my pants. An embarrassing situation was averted as the staff at Verve were very welcoming and understanding, although there was a little confusion at first when they assumed it was a poo stain. But after some quick clarification and a taste test on my part the confusion was quickly cleared up. Thanks to all the staff at Verve for being so understanding, and for serving the best damn cider this side of Cidertown!

Before popping into the hotel I was hoping to get my carb overload done right and re-energize from the depleted energy tanks. After a quick search, I found this place and walked over to it and loved it more when I realized it had a low key atmosphere starting from the walk down into the main dining hall. This place is simple, fast, and straightforward with its menu offerings as they offers pastas, pizzas, etc along with a selection of beers/ciders while offering a hipster vibe After perusing, ordered the linguine with meatballs and the parpadelle with ragu. Ordered a few beers as well which were tasty. This place does get busy during lunch time with what seems to be office workers in the CBD and it brought the atmosphere to be lively. The pastas were out in a flash and they do not skimp on portions or protein here. I feel most places in the states only offers 3 meatballs but they went all out and doubled it and the parpadelle was no joke as well. The food here was solid and while the tomato base was a bit strong, the food itself was delish. The pasta was cooked well and basically both plates were completely gone by the end of the meal. This spot is solid and offers exactly what you are looking for in a low key atmosphere just serving up good quick eats.

I cannot stress how wonderful the staff were, even though there wasn't a table empty we felt like we merely had to look around to receive service. We had a table for two, ordered the cheesy ball thingies (forgive me, aranchini?) and the gnocchi, both were delicious, however could have been presented in a more interesting manner. The garlic bread however tasted similar to corner store quality. With two different appetisers, two gnocchi, and two cheap drinks we ended up with a bill just tipping $60. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I return? Yes. What would I rate it? 9.0 (garlic bread/presentation) Anecdotally, our table had a slight wobble, before it became anything of an annoyance out server swiftly placed a card beneath and levelled it out, it's the little things.

These days call for random eat-out weeknights, and since Jo was craving Italian, we decided on Pane e Vino. I've been here before and found it quite mediocre for what it's worth, but for the sake of time, we decided on this conveniently located restaurant. The ambience is quite casual, especially for a semi-pricy Italian restaurant. Might be because it's also a cafe-type restaurant? It didn't bother me, especially since they had celebrity designed plates on their wall - which honestly is a bit random. No complaints though, cause they have a plate designed by Billy Martin of Good Charlotte (as well as Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett). =P I don't quite remember what I ordered last time, but this time around I got the Gnocchi Alla Boscaiola (23), which was a gnocchi with bacon, mushrooms, and shallots in a creamy tomato sauce. I wasn't too impressed with the sauce at first, but the more I had it, the more I actually liked it. They were generous about the bacon and mushrooms, which made up for the mediocre gnocchi...Not there was nothing wrong with the gnocchi, but it was a bit flour-y and not as chewy as I liked. I also had a taste of the Papparadelle Pesto e Pollo (25.5), which was a chicken pesto in a spinach cream sauce. It was decent, but I was satisfied with my choice. Though the pasta was just average for the price, the service was a 5/5 that night - attentive and friendly, just the way it should be! I would say (at least that night) it was one of the better places I've had in Brisbane, service-wise.
