This was our second time at this Italian restaurant. We loved it our first time so we were excited to come. We came on a Thursday at 7pm. Our waitress was sick and greeted us with food in her mouth and she visibly had a cold. The music was country and classic rock which didn't fit the vibe of the romantic setting. Last time we came the waiter brought us bread. This time we had to ask. The food was average. We had mushroom pasta, chocolate tart and a crème brûlée. Delicious!! This is my second time here in La Paz and I love that this restaurant is literally right here located a few steps from my Hotel. It has a beautiful view of the ocean, the staff was friendly in explaining the dishes, they bring fresh bread with Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cheese and chili. Reservations is how they can best seat you. I ordered the Tartufo which is a Tagliolini pasta with black Truffle sauce topped with black pepper and Parmesan cheese. If you want to add protein options of chicken or shrimp, it's extra $220 pesos. It was delicious. Definitely would come again. read more

I'm genuinely stunned by how far Oliva el Mare has fallen. Last year, this was the very first restaurant I tried on vacation, and I loved it so much that I ate there every single night I was in town. The food was phenomenal, the staff was warm and attentive, and it became one of my favorite memories of the entire trip. Fast-forward to this year, and while the food is still good, the service has absolutely collapsed. On my first night back, I was the ONLY person seated at the bar, yet the service was painfully slow. I waited 25 minutes just to cash out, even after asking twice. Not ideal, but I chalked it up to an off night and decided to give them another chance because of how great my experience had been the year before. Huge mistake. When I walked in the second time, I sat at the bar and the bartender didn't even glance at me--no "hi," no "I'll be right with you," nothing. A waitress eventually noticed and handed me a menu, but the bartender still didn't acknowledge I existed. He kept mixing drinks and chatting with staff, completely ignoring the person sitting directly in front of him. After several minutes of being invisible, I got up and left. And that's it. I won't be returning. What a sad ending to what used to be an incredible place. read more

Nice decor and ambience absolutely ruined by a 12 top of over served senoritas who had complete disregard for their noise level and its effect on other dinners. Zero shits given by the staff. This has got to be the best waterfront, ocean-view restaurant in all of La Paz. If it isn't the best, it sure is the fanciest. Four of us went here on a Sunday night and we occupied the large table in the middle of the dining room. We started with the bruschetta and the Cesar salad. The bruschetta was served two ways (one slice with tomatoes, balsamic and basil, the other wish mushrooms and cream). Both were out-of-this-world good. The salad ... well, how can an Italian place mess that up?) We then split the following: - Risotto (the sweetbread was a bit of a surprise, but I had no idea what the hell it was at the time. In retrospect, it wouldn't have mattered. In fact, I would have ordered another serving). - The lechon, AKA maialano (wow, is all I can really say) - Squid ink linguine, aka Mora al Mare, with shrimp (packed with flavor) - T-bone steak (fiorentina), cooked perfectly medium-rare - Panna cotta - Tiramisu Everything was absolutely delicious. Five-star meal. Five-star service. Five-star atmosphere. Highly recommended, but bring your wallet. Between all that food and 3 bottles of wine we only managed to drop about $8100 MXN, before tip, or around $500 US. read more

Wow, just wow!! This food was by far some of the best food I've ever had! The crab bruschetta, OMG what a portion of crab! On crisp toast, and piled on with crab, this dish was delicious! Next came the ink pasta filled with octopus, shrimp, and scallops! If you're a seafood lover like me, this dish is the ultimate find! This restaurant is wonderful and well worth the price. To start with it's tiny so try to make a reservation. The view, went 2 times in 2 months during sunset, is terrific. The service was great as well. The waitress spoke English but one of my friends is decently fluent in Spanish so she spoke in Spanish to us. On the first trip most of us had cocktails and this time around we did wine. Appetizers were delicious. This was what was ordered (if I can remember) during both visits. Smoked mozzarella, bruschetta, and Caesar salad. If you like tomatoes and mushrooms go for the bruschetta. Caesar has a lot of dressing but I enjoy that. For the main course I ordered the squid ink for the first go and Gorgonzola gnocchi for the second. Friends had pesto and ravioli and can't remember the other dishes. I loved both of mine. Squid ink was good and tasted of the sea. Gnocchi was decadent but I would have preferred the prosciutto either crispier or not crisp at all. Felt a little stale but the gnocchi was light and pillowy and the sauce was sooooo good. I would probably get again without the meat. Everyone enjoyed their dishes but the pesto is a good option and the shrimp on it has such lovely seasoning. I've tried the chocolate cake (I think flourless) , panna cotta, tiramisu, and the strawberries with Marscapone. They were all delish but I think I would do without the panna but would order the other 3 any time. I will be definitely returning to La Paz (whale sharks) but when I do I will come back here to indulge!!! read more

Vegetarian friendly The food was so good I went back 2 nights in a row. The pesto on the caprese salad was incredible. I was blown away. The best thing on the menu was the goat cheese ravioli. My fiance had pasta with grilled shrimp and pesto and she said she would go back to Mexico just for the shrimp. The cocktails were amazing, and the service was great. The waitress remembered us from the day before. It is located right off the board walk so the walk to and from the restaurant was beautiful. I definitely recommend this place. This place was the best one I have tried so far. Amazing service, AMAZING FOOD, beautiful view and the way up to the restaurant is a little tricky but so beautiful. It is a little fancy and you might feel under dressed if you wear a beach outfit, but no one cares. The server was a little rude and began side talking to one of her coworkers about my husband. We got a different waiter and I am glad because he made the experience much better. Not only did he speak English but he was on top of refilling drinks, making sure everything was okay, and even made sure to close up the blinds when the sun was hitting my husbands eyes cause the snotty waiter decided it would be a great idea to open them up when the sun was aimed towards us. I would also recommend making reservations, seeing as they do have a tight waiting list. This is definitely somewhere a man should take his wife or girlfriend. read more

We should of made reservations but didn't. There were four of us. However, they still accommodated us by sitting us at the bar. The food was excellent. We started with the Bruschetta Granchio which is Bruschetta with crab. It was excellent. My spouse had the Arugula Salad which was also excellent. I and one of our friends had the Pasta Pomdoro which was also very good. Our other friend had the ravioli with walnut sauce which I cannot remember the name of but she enjoyed it. All in all, the wine was good, the food was good, and the view... Well the view as the sun goes down is magnificent. All in all even though we did not have a table, we all had a great time and will definitely go back the next time we are in La Paz! read more

Most of the plates we ordered were really good except for my entree which was the gnocchi gorgonzola, the gnocchi was raw and made me really sick, when I pointed this out to the waitress and the chef, they insisted it was not raw. After I went to the restroom to because of how sick I was feeling the waitress insisted that I did not know how gnocchi was supposed to taste. Definitely not going back. read more
