I love this place. It is cheap. It has so much crispy pork surrounding it, that you crunch into it for 20 minutes, and then still have another 30 minutes of succulent meat there on the bone. And it is such a well designed piece of meat for travel purposes, with the handy handle and all. Crispy pork like this you normally can only get by ordering an Eisbein for 15 Euro plus in restaurants, or at authentic Chinese roast pork/duck places, that are few and far between in central Europe - - and here you get more of a meal than you can ever finish (I usually save most of it for later) for a few Euro.

It is a bit loud but good enough to have some drinks after business. I would not go here to have a romantic dinner or in the evening with kids. Service is fine, but expect to have some wait if it is busy.

I Was not disappointed, it's a place frequented by locals and visitors alike. Not having much German in my vocabulary, the spoke more English than I speak German. Service was quick and portions plentiful. I had jagged schnitzel it came with fries a small salad and mushroom gravy. It was excellent. I ordered some red cabbage it was delicious. The atmosphere is casual old style. If you want solid local food do yourself a favor and come here

This is certainly the best gutbürgerliche (traditional German food) restaurant in central Hannover…read moreand may be one of the best of this increasingly rare type in all of Germany. The Schweinshaxe and Eisbein are especially fine, the former exploding with molten fat from perfectly crisped skin. I rate Max W. at five stars for doing what it does so well, but to enjoy it--indeed to eat there at all--you must adhere exactingly to its Unwritten Laws. Despite its working man's prices and an interior looking like a down-at-heel Studentenkneipe this is a feinschmeker (gourmet) restaurant and must be treated as such. You need to reserve by telephone at least several days in advance, and humbly offer them an appealing number of diners (ideally either four or six: they have only 25 places at tables and four stools at the bar and must be ruthless about maximizing their yield: do not even think of asking for a table for one; they will simply refuse (reserve--and you do still need to reserve--a seat at the bar). Persons wandering in without a reservation hoping for a table--and especially tourists without German--are treated with fine forthright traditional north-German rudeness: "Nein! Nein! Weg! Weg!" (Sometimes in chorus.) This is a performance--once one has actually received permission to eat there the staff are warm and charming in a rough, Hannover, sort of way--but, I guarantee you (having suffered this) that you will not recognize the tone of your expulsion as a jolly act when it occurs, nor will you notice the ironical pleasure the regulars are taking in your fate, because you have just become a familiar--three or four times an hour--and well-loved part of the evening's entertainment. This is the same particularly German form of quiet rejoycing at the artful humiliation of others that has made Sven, the cruel bouncer at Berlin's legendary Berghain dance club, a figure of national affection. Those refused entry at Max W. become a special German sauce on the already superb food. And whether you end up as a diner or back on the pavement with your head spinning, either way you have had a perfectly authentic Hannover experience.

If you are striving for Greek food in Hannover the Meteora is as good as it can get!…read more Great friendly and lively service, nice lively athmosphere and next to the dishes one would expect when considering a Greek restaurant, you can order so called Mezedes which are the Greek version of the Spanish tapas principle. The special clue about the whole place: Beside the authentic and welcoming athmosphere, the 100 % organic food that surely makes the difference. Everything from the giros to the steaks, the lamb chops to the suflaki or suzuki/bifteki is cooked to the point and the food here, although it is a bit more expensive than other Greek places, has never disappointed me. Normally one does not mention the toilets when reviewing a nice restaurant, but the disco toilets with the mirror balls, the disco lights and 70s/80s disco classics surely are a surprising little event worth a mention. Make sure you don't forget the reservation when planning to go because it is not a secret spot anymore.
