Being in town from America for business meetings, I happened see Barvarium walking by. I love German food and this place screamed great food. It's obliviously been here for a while. I Was not disappointed, it's a place frequented by locals and visitors alike. Not having much German in my vocabulary, the spoke more English than I speak German. Service was quick and portions plentiful. I had jagged schnitzel it came with fries a small salad and mushroom gravy. It was excellent. I ordered some red cabbage it was delicious. Wow! I love this place! I already have so many places I love in Hannover, and now I have to add this to the list! I walked by here a few times, and planned to come and check it out, but there are so many other places I want to eat in Hannover that I kept putting it off. Finally, one evening, as I walked around the city center, undecided as to where I wanted to eat, I walked by this place again, and this time, I opted to go in and see if I could get a table. While I wanted to sit in the Biergarten in the back, nothing was available, so I opted for a table in the front, next to an open window. I ordered a cold Hefeweizen and perused the menu. The waitress spoke good English and I washed her recommendations, and she said that the ribs were a favorite. I was ready for something different than German food for a change, and I know the Germans can make some good ribs, I took her advice and ordered the ribs- I asked if I could get them without their "barbecue sauce" and she said of course. And I am glad I did- German barbecue sauce is very different than American barbecue sauce! The ribs were spectacular! The fries hot and crispy! This place was so good that I came back the next day to meet friend for dinner. Now I have added yet another favorite restaurant to my Hannover list! read more

Very nice atmosphere with a courtyard beer garden or inside dining. The food was wonderful. The goulash was the best I've ever had. The pork knuckle and roulade were delicious and the bread platter with three spreads is the perfect accompaniment to the meat and sauerkraut. The service was rough to start, but got progressively better throughout the meal. I may go again before I leave Hanover. read more

Obviously this establishment has a vast selection of beer, they also serve wine for those who fancy the grapes over the hops . I prefer a cheeseburger and fries in a place like this and the burgers are of quality meat, prepared to your liking. The salads are also very good and they to provide a vegetarian option as well. The seating inside fills up quickly and the back patio is very comfortable but will also get very busy, they will take reservations for tables inside but I doubt they reserve the long tables on the patio. The atmosphere is noisy and seating on the back patio may require you to share a long table at some point but it is a very relaxing environment, you will enjoy yourself here. Cheers! read more

This is a cool spot! Very rustic inside and on the outside it looks like a German hall. Little hard to find because it is set off the street so you don't immediately see it. We were there twice in a week and they were slammed...most because of a trade show. But over all the staff were great and a fun atmosphere. The food and drinks weren't bad either. The rouladan was also very good. I don't care for the dumplings so ordered the second time with kraut and mashed potatoes...much better combo. If you are alone they do have a bar but it's better with a group. Check it out when you are in town! read more

Huge portions! Come with an appetite or be prepared to split your meals. The Bavarium offers a fun take on traditional German meals. I loved the Bavariums unique versions and came away appreciating the origin of them even more. We had potatoes and bacon with a fried egg, and spatzel that was a twist on Mac and cheese. Of course we had beer - both the standard and dark. Very good. And a pretzel with mustard. Standard. Overall we were in search of a traditional German dinner and came away with something more. This place was good for tradition Bavarian food, outside of Bavaria. The place is touristy, it's quite busy and service can be a little slow, but the food is tasty. The menu has a bit for everyone, from schnitzel and pretzels to burgers and fries. There is plenty of beer to consume. I went midday, I suspect this place is packed in the evenings. A touch of Bavarian Gemuetlichkeit in Hanover! After my mother and her friend got schnitzeled out and wanted to try some place else the night before, we finally managed to convince them to try Bavarium on our last day in Hanover. As big fans of Southern German cuisine, we were ready to eat ourselves into a spaetzle and schnitzel induced coma. The menu here is very authentic (if a little cliche in the way it collects 'typical' dishes of the region rather than being similar to a 'typical restaurant' in the region which might have all kinds of food). Had we not been with my mother, who is a bit of a small-portion-nazi (sorry to use that in a review of a German place), we would've ordered nearly everything on the menu. As it was, I went for Jaegerschnitzel with a pile of fresh, herby spaetzle. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. I was almost too full for dessert. Almost. We ordered one of each dessert, and were especially impressed with the Apfelstrudel which was served with a fabulous, rich, creamy vanilla sauce. The Germknoedel was a little odd. We'd never actually had one before, and we can only describe as being similar to a Chinese steam bun, only filled with a sweet and sour plum filling and covered with vanilla sauce. We didn't care for the filling, but the bun was good with the sauce. Then again, I don't think I would ever complain about bread and custard, so I'm not the best judge here. Overall: Best place in Hanover if you crave Bavarian food. Be prepared for a cheesy decor and very cliche food, but you won't regret it! read more

This is a very good place, tucked away in an alley somewhere in Hannover. The best about this place is in it's name: ... & Beergarden. The two things to go here for are the microbrew beer and the ambience. The beer selection is decent and they are good. I had the Original Classic, which is a light beer. There are decent number of vegetarian options on the menu as well. So it is good to go here if that's what you want. The ambience is really nice. Feels like a tavern with wooden interior everywhere. I am not sure if it is preserved or just built this way in the recent year's. It would be cool if this was original from a few hundred years ago. The service is slow, but I am comparing it to what we have in the US. Maybe it is ok for what is expected here. No points off for that. read more

From the moment you walk through the dining room archway, you can feel the ambiance and smell the savoury aromas. Food selection on the menu is more than enough to satisfy any craving. Roast pig knuckle was moist, tender and tasty.The Roast half chicken was equally delightful. And the french fries are just the way I like them: crispy on the outside and hearty on the inside without being dried out. French fry lovers will know what I mean. My first time in Hannover and I have been to Bavarium twice in one week already. Bring friends and order various selections for a tasting feast. You will be glad that you did. Excellent! Food is delicious and great atmosphere. Bavarium can be very crowded with businessmen during the dinner hours, but that just adds to the lively atmosphere. Pretty great place. Let's just get that out of the way. Atmosphere was great with indoor and outdoor seating. Servers were attentive and friendly, especially that we didn't know how to speak much German. This place serves 1 liter beers...enough said. We ordered food and that was excellent as well. We had brauhaus Ernest August the evening before and the food wasn't in the same league. This food was hands down better quality and taste. I stumbled upon this restaurant/biergarten this weekend while exploring the area near Hauptbanhof. From the outside, it looks a little dark and uninviting, but don't be deterred! There is a large outdoor garden area in the back that is really pleasant -- large picnic tables, shaded areas, sunny areas -- very nice! Some strange craving prompted me to get the spareribs, which were tender and well flavored, if a little sweet. It's no Tennessee bbq, but they were delicious nonetheless. read more
