If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute circus. No one has any idea what's going on--from billing to appointments, it's complete chaos. When you call to pay your bill, good luck--nobody knows what you owe, where to find the information, or how to help you. It's like they've never used a computer before, despite having one right in front of them. Dr. Oley has lied to me three separate times about what procedures he was going to do. Instead of a simple phone call to clarify anything, I'm forced to miss work and make another appointment just to get a straight answer. And don't expect anyone to call you when your nightguard is ready--you'll have to chase them down week after week because apparently, following up is too much to ask. No one in this office gives a damn about their patients. They only care about squeezing as much money out of you as possible while wasting your time. It's unprofessional, disorganized, and completely unacceptable. I'll be reporting this office to the Better Business Bureau. Enough is enough. When I made my appointment for my sixth month of cleaning they had to do it for eight months because they now don't do sixth month appointments. You're supposed to get your cleaning done every six months. This is a massive inconvenience and I will not return to a place that can't be managed right. read more

I could not be HAPPIER with the results. When I first considered getting dentures, back in 2008, I was told that I would NEVER get a good fit because of the shape of my jaw, but I began the extractions anyway, it taking longer than expected due to the 2008 crash--I could only afford a few teeth at a time, and using the VCU Dental Clinic, my "dentist" graduated before all the extractions were completed, and VCU refused to assign me to another dentist, so the remainder of the teeth were extracted at a MOMS clinic in 2013(?) I got my first set of dentures in 2016(?) from the Affordable Dentures location in Newport News and was pleased that they were no more expensive than they were (paid $450 as I recall) and looked quite real. Lower plate needed adjustment because of an ulcer on the right inside back of my jaw, after which the fit of both plates was good, but had to use adhesive. I suspect I had no more problems with that first set than I did because I was THREE YEARS before getting fitted. I am VERY IMPRESSED with the attention to detail by Dr. George Oley IV and his assistants. I expected a clay mold to be used, but a resin was used instead that didn't adhere to my gum or tongue, much less get "washed" down my throat by saliva. The resin was in my mouth for a good 10 minutes with both jaws done separately, then together to make certain I had a better "bite" than with the first dentures. I was there a total of 90 minutes! Had to wait almost a month to receive the dentures, but WOW. I do NOT need adhesive even when eating apples, though it does help to slice them in half first. I experienced a little discomfort removing the lower plate the first night, but on the opposite side of my jaw, and the soreness was gone the following morning. The second night I again experienced a little soreness on the lower jaw, but in inside the front of my jaw, and it, too, was gone the following morning. Anxious to see if the new dentures has a positive impact on my playing my French horn! read more

I've been coming to this location since 2014 and haven't had any problems. I try to do the morning appointments and I remember there only being one time where I sat there 45 past my appointment time. I don't know but I seemed to be really patience that day. I can't say anything too special about this place, but they do a pretty good job getting the job done. They don't really have personal relationships with their customers but they do get the job done. The only reason why I'm giving this place a 3 stars because the first appointment (of my crown, not my semi-annual cleaning) took about 4 hours. My appointment was from 8 and I didn't get out until noon. This was the first part of the root canal I had to get done. Second time I came there to finish my crowning and found out that I needed a second crown above my tooth. Pregnancy is no joke...the kid took all my calcium from my teeth! My second appointment was from 3:30 to closing time (5 pm)...why? Because they forget me in the chair. Third time was a charm. It only took 30 mins. I'm officially done for the year. This place isn't bad, it does get the job done...but I'm debating if I want to switch over to another dentistry as well. :/ read more

Don't go to this Dentist office if you have an infection or pain. I went there because I have pain in my jaw after xrays, I was told I had an infection in my wisdom tooth. Dr Runwal wanted to pull it that day at 9 am in the morning. I told her I had to go to work and did not want to be in pain at work. She said that I could take Tylenol and make another appt. She did not give me antibiotics or anything and the next appt was two weeks away. Run away don't go here. read more

Dr. Oley has been my main dentist for about 10 or more years. They have been very good to me, this is a bussy office so patients is needed on a rare occasion. They have gotten more money out of my insurance than other dentist offices. He has pitched a bitch at me about stuff, but he was pretty much right on. I have been coming to Oley Shia And assic., for about 12 years. I have never had an issue. My primary Dentist is Dr. Shia. a man who does his own cleanings. Tell me another Dentist that does that! he is polite, friendly and efficient. He doesnt talk much, but we do chat on the way back and for a minute before he starts what ever I need that day. He always remembers things about me and talks to me about them so I feel some personal care. the office staff has always been friendly to me and my appts have always been honored. If i walk in at 1245 and my appt. is at one. at 1258 Dr shia is walking out of the back to get me. On the few occasions i have been late, i called when on the way and they had no problem with it. I was taken a few minutes after i walked in. but I have never arrived late with out letting them know I was on my way. I Have Never Had a problem with this office. read more

Please go to another dentist, now! I have been going to his practice for 10 years and never once was told that I had bone loss and a potential problem with #31 (lower right back molar). Well, I had to have it extracted (by another dentist) after a thorough exam and a visit to an endodontics specialist, it was determined the tooth was cracked and too much bone loss to save the tooth. I won't even begin to tell you the issues we have had with the office staff. Horrible customer service and I lost a tooth because this practice is too busy pushing people through the line to concern themselves with proper dental consultations. I had a fairly good experience with the dentist, over two years, ago; however, when I asked questions that gate-keepers felt uncomfortable answering, the courtesy ceased. I could no longer schedule an appointment. I've tried for over a year, now. So, today, I've moved on. Caveat: Treat all customers with the courtesy they deserve; there's a lot of vulnerability and trust required from us, as you do dig around in our mouth, and sometimes with sharp objects. Let me start off by saying I LOVE going to the dentist. Well, I did before going to THIS dentist. My complaint is 4 fold. 1) The office is huge and I felt like a rat in a maize. I didn't like how open the exam rooms were. As I wondered down one hall turning into another hall I kept bumping eyes with patients in dental bibs with there mouths open. At a time when you are pretty venerable I found it uncomfortable. 2) Although my dental hygienist was polite I felt like she took the 'I'll scare you into flossing' approach. I found my self thinking 'I floss, twice a day...I swear!' 3) The dentist I saw must have left her bedside manner at med-school. Because my mouth actually felt violated. It was as if she forgot a human was attached to the teeth she was discussing. She offered no clarification as to what she was doing prior to cramming what seemed like her entire hand in my mouth. 4) Lastly, it appears I've had a $19 credit at this office for over a year and no one, NO ONE thought to mention that to me. With my insurance dental visits are covered and have no copay so it seems like they would have kept my $19 forever. That makes me question how much money they are holding as 'credits' from other people. I can't stress how much I loved going to the dentist before going to this dentist. I can't imagine how someone who didn't like the dentist would handle this place. Not only did they forget my mouth was attached to a person but it really felt like I was at one if those places that does oil changes in 15 minutes. This office has no human approach. You'll be treated like a jaw with teeth when you visit, not a human. read more

First of, unfortunately, they are not closed (wonder why it shows up as such here). Secondly, I was close to filing a malpractice law suite against them if I had had the time. They put crowns on top of cavities and press it into your mouth without sedative and under full pressure. It took me TWO YEARS and 4000 DOLLARS to repair the damage. They rejected any fault or refund in writing. My new dentist, when he saw what they did, handed me a mirror so I could see myself and said he never saw something like this before. I paid $6,000 for Invisalign. When my trays first arrived at this office I got a call asking if I could come in that day. I was at work so I told them I would call back and let them know. I called back a few minutes later and was told everyone went to lunch and no one could set up my appointment. I called a total of 4 times to finally get in touch with someone to tell me that I couldn't come in until next Monday. I have had nothing but issues with this office. They don't return phone calls. The front desk won't make appointments for the Orthodontist. I went to the Hugeuenot location because one of my attachments fell off and this office(three chopt) only makes appointments for Mondays on Mondays. Three chopt never sent my attachment tray to the other office so when I arrived there they could do nothing for me. They were very apologetic and sweet. The Hugeuenot location made me an appointment at three chopt. I was standing right beside the receptionist when she made the appointment. I arrived at the three chopt location on Monday June 22nd and this location never set up my appointment. I don't understand how hard it is to set up an appointment. Dr. Chip is awesome and I love him just to be clear. It's the main office I don't like. I also went and had a tooth pulled they didn't numb me enough for that I said I felt the pain and was told it was probably just my anxiety. I will never recommend this place to anyone and I will never step foot in this office again. I'm going to the Hugeuenot office from now on and hopefully they have better customer service. read more

Dental professionals are great, true professionals. Office/back office not so much. Appointment times are not be what they wrote down on those little cards. Was told new billing in place, may be some errors. Errors not fixed. Quoted prices/out of pocket amounts are one thing one day, then a different amount the day of. Always seem to be placed on multiple holds. Then there was this....... I was waiting in the lobby for a simple cleaning. They called my first name. Another guy, who was there before i got there, jumps up and goes in. No problem, he probably has my first name as well. After about 5 minutes, they call my first name. I go in, sit down, they put the heavy thing over me asking if i was here for a bridge/crown/something. I said "I thought i was here for a simple cleaning". They asked if I was "First Name". I said "yes, but there was a guy who apperently had the same first name who went before me". Are you "Other Guys last name". I said no. They quickly corrected the situation but imagine if neither of us spoke up!!!! Again......not the professionals fault. Office and back office staff need to be replaced. read more

Dr. Wilby was just amazing! I've been to around 6 dentist in my life. Some good, some average and one awful. The last one. Had really bad white coat syndrome after my las terrible experience. Dr. Wilby has an excellent bedside manner, explaining the whole process as she is going through it. Filled two cavities, one on each side, in less than 30 minutes. Yes it is a bigger practice, but I didn't feel as if it was a "dentist factory." Very satisfied! read more

This is the worst dentist I have ever been to. The staff is awful and rough. They treat you like you are just another number in the busy day. After my cleaning the doctor came in with her Starbucks drink looked at my mouth for one minute and said I have 5 cavities!! 5 cavities!! I was shocked she then asked me the last time I had been to a dentist which was 4 months ago whom which told me I had 0 cavities. When I went to go check out the lady asked me when I wanted to schedule to have a crown completed. My jaw hit the counter. No one ever said anything about a crown. No wonder this dental office only had 2 stars...it deserves less. I had been going here a number of years and found the service adequate so I didn't look for another dentist. You are just a number here. But the last two visits were so awful, I certainly don't want to subject any potential clients to their horrible service and lack of care. I went in for a crown, they put a temporary one in. When I came back to get the permanent one placed, the dental assistant pulled the temporary one out so hard that my jaw popped and I had terrible pain in my jaw. I heard it and exclaimed, and when I told her that it felt like pulled tendon or something, she said it was probably nothing and if it still hurt after a few days to call back. Well, it did, so I did... call back that is...I was again given lip service and told it was just a minor issue and to switch ice and moist heat. Still no relief. I couldn't chew well, sleep well or talk without aching. When I went back for my cleaning a short while later, and reminded them of the persisting problem, the dentist said she'd make me a night guard for free and that would most likely relieve the pain and that the jaw takes months to heal. We set up an appoint to get the mouth guard, yet when I went in, they told me that I WOULD have to pay. I said no, you caused the injury and you should fork out the $108. They refused. Then suggested I see an oral surgeon (at further cost to me) and were not apologetic, caring or concerned. They argued with me and even insinuated it was from a previous condition trying to deny liability. I will be filing a formal complaint with the American Dental Association and with the Better Business Bureau. I will never go back and I suggest you don't either! All they care about is money, so for a little over $100, probably what the dentist spends on one meal, he lost business, not that they care. The worst! No stars if I could!!! read more

But still go there for my dental cleaning/work because the dentist in my new area kept making mistakes, which Dr. Oley's office had to fix. Dr. Oley's assistant Mo is super knowledgeable and talented. They never try to talk you into work you don't need and always right on the spot with diagnosis/ treatment. My dentist retired, so I decided to go with Dr. Shia (because my wife goes here). I made a appointment and showed up six minutes late (accident on 64 east). The front office was RUDE!!!!!!. So rude I just left and now my wife and mother in law are going elsewhere. The staff treat you like they are doing you a favor and they put a time limit on all cleanings (I was told). The bottom line is no matter how dirty my teeth are I need them cleaned NOT A TIME LIMIT!!!!!!!!! They treat there patients as they are dollar signs $. NO WONDER 2 STARS read more

The management of this office was a mess. They instructed me to inform my insurance provider to add their office in the list so that I could schedule an appointment. I did this. Then I went to the appointment and they said that I did not have insurance! The owner even argued with me. In the end, at my persistence, they found my insurance information in their big patient book, not in the computer system. They did not put my info in their computer system and the office clerks did not even look up in their book. They just like to sit in front of the computers and figure everything out. read more

At first, I thought this was a very accommodating office, albeit their administrative staff and billing staff were uncoordinated. Dr. Wilby was a kind dentist, and very caring during the procedures. She did, however, seem to always be in a rush. I've had multiple root canals and crowns done by her, and 1 has fallen out TWICE, as well as the others. They charged me to have them put back in. For comparison, I have a crown that was put in over a decade prior to these, and it is still going strong (no issues). Their administrative staff will never have your correct insurance or employment information (no matter how many times you change it), they will always send you an incorrect bill, and you'll speak to at least 3 people explaining your need to come in (none of which can seem to figure out a schedule). I would NOT recommend this practice, not even for a cleaning. You might as well light your money on fire in the parking lot. Lastly, Dr. Wilby does not wear face protection, so be prepared to have someone 2 inches from your face, breathing into your nostrils. Unsanitary, unsafe! read more

Yesterday, I had the worst experience at Dr. Oley & Shaia DDS. I have a terrible gag reflex when it comes to x-rays & getting impressions done and I need a crown done. I was told they would be patient with me. Ha! First, the assistant in charge of x-rays was apparently irritated that I'm a girl with a boys name. When I mentioned that it should have been noted in my chart about trouble with xrays, she rolled her eyes and said the people you talk to on the phone don't know anything. She then sprinted down the hall, expecting me to keep up. She paused to stick her head in another room to say, we have a gagger.   She then tries to stuff a iPhone sized xray in a plastic bag in my mouth. She gives up after two tries and leaves. The hygienist cleans my teeth, no issues. The dentist comes in, barely looks at me and begins to make fun of my issue. He starts dabbing my eyes with the paper bib, only to turn and shove it into my face. He says he can't help me with my crown, another dentist will have to do it and leaves. The hygienist tells me I don't need it, my tooth will just break apart and I'll have a lot of problems. Finally,  I'm ushered up front to make my appointment for the crown. There are several women in the front office. One keeps snickering, rolling her eyes, pointing to the waiting area and making comments to the other women. At this point, I'm at my limit and I call her out. Is there a problem? She shocked and starts stammering, what?  I asked her if there was an issue that my mom was in the waiting room humming and singing to get my 8 month old to sleep while waiting for me. I've obviously caught her and she starts muttering about the radio. They ended my visit by the office manager trying to cover for everyone apologizing, that I should give them another chance. There wasn't a single good thing about this practice and I will never go back.   They don't even deserve a star but you have to give at least one to make a review. read more

I've only been here once, but so far, so good. After a few scarring visits at my previous dentist, I was a bit anxious about getting my mouth worked on. So anxious, in fact, that I waited way longer than I should have between visits. But it was all good because, much to my surprise, I had no cavities when I finally visited this practice a few weeks ago! On a recommendation from a trusted friend, I decided to go with Oley, Shaia, & Associates for my much-needed teeth cleaning. The dental hygienist I saw was Pallavi Desai and I really liked her. When I made my appointment over the phone, I told the receptionist that I was a little nervous and she passed this info along to Pallavi (without me asking). I appreciated this, because it showed me that they really care about the comfort of their patients. Pallavi ensured that I was at ease throughout my visit, and asked me multiple times during the teeth cleaning if I was doing ok. My teeth are extremely susceptible to cavities, despite all of my brushing and flossing, so I warned her that I would probably need multiple fillings. As I already revealed above, I was happy to learn that I had zero cavities, and Pallavi assured me that my teeth looked great. Needless to say, I left feeling very happy with my mouth. I also love, love, loved Pallavi's assistant who took my xrays and prepped me for the visit. Of course, her name is escaping me at the moment, but she was awesome. As for the dentist himself, I saw Dr. Kopelove. As is usually the case when you're just having a standard cleaning, he only came in at the end to shake hands and check out my xrays before sending me on my merry way. But during the brief time I spent with him, I got a great vibe and will definitely be requesting him again on my next visit. If you're looking for a comfortable vibe, ample parking, and friendly staff who know what they're doing, then I certainly recommend giving this dentist office a shot. read more

Dr. Patel is AMAZING. I have always had a terrible fear of the dentist due to severe problems with my jaw and insensitivity from other dentists in the past. She, however, was incredibly patient and helpful. I ended up having to get cavities filled, and I could not have asked for a better doctor to do it. She made sure I was as comfortable as possible the entire time, and she did everything she could to keep me from straining my jaw too much during the process. I strongly recommend her! The office, however, can be difficult to deal with at times (forgetting to send referrals to insurance, etc), but Dr. Patel makes up for it all! read more

This was the worst dental experience I have ever had. I was a few minutes late to an early morning bi-annual appointment. The hygienist that pulled me back was so angry and very rude and short with me. When she started cleaning she was unnecessarily rough. She drew blood scraping my teeth and gums which I have never had happen. They were swollen and painful several days afterward. The dentist saw me for a total of 30 seconds, told me I had a cavity, and walked out. I have been to the dentist at least 50 times in my life and I have never been treated that way. When I told my mom about this experience, she shared that this place had told her she needed a root canal but when she went for a second opinion it turned out she did not. There is some sketchy stuff going on here. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

I used this dental practice over 30 years ago when it was just Dr. Oley. Had a great experience and after many years l moved back to Virginia from out of state and decided to give the new practice a try. I had two bridges, done by Dr. Oley years ago, that were loose so thought who better to go to but the dentist who put them in. I should have researched more...There was no consultation except for the young Dr. Oley saying I had significant bone loss and had I thought of dentures. Well no I hadn't but maybe that was the answer. No one talked to me about the different procedures or what the impact might be with removing all but two of my front teeth. I had worn a bottom partial for years with no issues with fit and absolutely no problems. So it was decided to make a new bottom partial and do a top plate. First off the top plate fell straight out of my mouth after removing teeth so had to go back to the lab. The bottom partial was a new flexible one that not only didn't fit but dug a hole into my gum upon inserting. Extremely painful. I went back 8 times to try and get this corrected. It was decided that I needed one with metal clasps like my old one. When I asked about it they said I didn't have enough gum to hold the flexible one and should have gotten the clasps to begin with.....how was I to know this? I'm not the dentist... Anyway a new partial was made, too freaking big and wouldn't stay in my mouth, had to be redone.. New one was still too big and even though it was adjusted several times it still doesn't fit. Back to the top plate. Said I would need it relined after several months of healing so with this done it was a bit tighter and ALMOST stayed in my mouth without adhesive. However, after another couple of months it was so loose that I needed to use half a tube of glue to keep it in long enough to be able to eat. I've lost 25 pounds and was not a huge person to begin with. I felt like I was bothering them every time I went in and the only time the dentist actually LOOKED in my mouth was to insert more hardware, seemed like there goal is to sell as many dentures as possible and not really try to give you options like how to keep the teeth you already have. My insurance gave me a list of Dentists and this one was closest to my new address. I was going to have a check up in order to get braces. The dentist asked me "what do you need braces for?" I said I have an open bite from sucking my thumb and he shrugged it off. I told him I had a tooth I was concerned about and needed it looked at prior to having braces. He stuck a tool down in the tooth and said it was "hollow". I was super concerned with this because if it hit a nerve I would have been in a lot of pain. My wife then told him that at the orthodontist they did xrays and she wanted to k ow if he'd like a copy faced over. He said no can I look at it on your phone? He took her phone and looked at the xrays and said he didn't see anything that needed immediate work. I was truly shocked that this happening. He was going by a phone screenshot versus the actual X-ray or doing xrays themselves. The visit lasted all of 10 minutes. He signed off for my braces and that was it. We were happy to get the clearance but truly shocked by the outdated office and unprofessional treatment. read more

This office has the worst customer service ever! It takes weeks to get receipts for payments and reimbursement forms for flex spending. It seems like no one pays attention to the billing and no one cares. One month, my card was charged 4 times because the office switched payment systems and no one bothered to tell me. I didn't find out until the end of the year when I asked to review my payment plan and remaining balance. The receptionist will never put anyone in billing on the phone and will constantly transfer you to voicemail. In addition, if you actually leave a message for billing, no one will call you back. It's not rocket science to send a customer a receipt and completed flex spending reimbursement form. read more

I was absolutely terrified to go to the dentist. I had not been in many years so was nearly having a panic attack when I arrived. I need not have worried so much about the visit. Dr. George Oley put bridges on my teeth nearly 30 years ago and even though I have been out of the area for many years I could still remember the great service I got way back then. Dr. Reba was my doctor today and she was very kind and professional and explained everything to me. And I don't want to forget Fiona, she was the best!!! Put me at ease when I was near tears and just made me feel like I was the only patient in the office. All in all a great visit with some great folks! read more

This place just wants to get as many people in and out as quickly as possible. After a cleaning I was told I could get a small chip fixed for free and that I was covered. Apparently I was not covered. No apology for the misunderstanding. When the procedure was done I had to pay for the tooth repair, which doesn't even look right. I had been going here for cleanings and when my daughter needed braces they were quick to get it started. What they failed to tell me was my insurance approves them for dentistry but not Ortho so I had to pay for it all out of pocket. Here I am again replacing a retainer that no longer fits and told my insurance now covers the retainer by half. I just got a bill for the full amount! I'm now being told they never said insurance covered it that it's just an estimate but they don't know if it's covered until the claim is filed. If that were the case I never would have gone ahead until I knew. The girl basically told me it's my responsibility and told me since we were getting nowhere and just repeating herself she was hanging up on me!! I'm told a supervisor won't be in until next week.
