I have been to Old's Cool General Store quite a few times. It is eclectic and jam-packed with amazing treasures that I keep coming back to see more. Customer service has always been super kind and helpful. I often come in looking for something I saw on their Facebook page and they have helped me find it like their travel straws. The peanut butter chocolate ice cream is excellent and when you are looking for those hard-to-find items like Lime Rickey Pop Shoppe Pop or Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch, this is the place you want to go. It is also great for finding special gift items and books, from essential oils to a unicorn corkscrew, this place has everything. Including retro candy and chocolate bars not to mention freshly baked treats too. This is much more than a general store. It is a treasure. What a pleasant surprise! A general store that I would only imagine in leslieville, Kensington, or the distillery. Friendly owners that took over the convenient store in September 2015. They are dedicated to ordering from local shops. They order from central smith, a ice cream place in Pickering, which has great ice cream flavours. The owners make sure you get 2 big scoops and it's less than $4 a cone! There's a variety of different products in this store. I liked that they had an Asian section, a cool cards section, and coffee! So much to look at and grab! The prices are comparable to market rate or even a bit cheaper. Last Saturday of every month, they have an event such as a cannoli sale in June. Zara, the owner told me that they are having another cannoli event on July 1, 2016! Like their Facebook page as they post events on there! Feels like I am advertising for them, but I love this store and totally would recommend it. Can't wait to go back! read more

This is going to be a bit of a book so settle in and let me tell you about this store, cafe, community space, love portal and shop of all things truly cool. I moved from Vancouver, BC a couple of months ago and this little store was the closest coffee to my home. Over the past two months it has become my second home. I love everything about it. First, the ladies who run Zahra and Mariko, amazing, lovely, warm and incredibly helpful. They go above and beyond when it comes to knowing their customers and you can see the pride of ownership everywhere you look. It's like a curio shop, with delicious, interesting, diet-specific baked goods, a grocery, a coffee bar, an old school candy counter and a serve yourself coffee counter. Apparently in summer I've heard they may be ice-cream - stay tuned! There are a few tables where you can pull out a book, journal , write, lounge, chit chat and these ladies are right in tune with the neighbourhood. Their motto is clearly "we all belong" and there is a supportive, loving vibe the moment you walk in the door. Just to show how much "we all belong" - you can bring your dogs into the store - INTO THE STORE and the ladies always have treats for the dogs. You can bring your children into the store and there are a few toys and books to keep them occupied as they have their sugar fix and you have your morning coffee. There are also on FRIDAYS fresh delicious samosas and although they order tonnes of them, they almost always sell out, so put in your order through FB or just give them a call and they'll set them aside. The samosas are delicious. But so far they are only on FRIDAYS. If you're looking for something cute, kitsch, delicious, decadent, caffeine fuelled or just a friendly smile and feeling of well being - you need to come to Old's Cool - you will be VERY glad you did! read more

My best friend has lived in this area for 15 mins and neither him or I had ever stepped foot in here til a few weeks ago. I love that in the heart of ghetto little East York (all love, I'm from here!) lives this gem of a store. They sell such funky, locally produced goods and are super involved in/supportive of the LGBTQ and BIPOC community. Happy to support such a progressive and inclusive business! read more

Incredible neighborhood grocery shop, coffee shop and gift shop. It is indeed a general store with great price points and stock that includes books by BIPOC authors or gifts made by local artists. The price point on items is awesome. The jar of Arz tahini cost me a dollar less than a big chain. This is a destination shop and I will definitely return for a visit in the near future. Yeah, this is it! This is exactly what I want out of a neighbourhood store. Super nice owners with a wonderful positive energy and great community spirit. Great selection of groceries and fresh fruit & veg with an emphasis on healthy, organic and gourmet brands. Awesome addition to the neighbourhood. If you haven't been by lately, take a second look. This store wasn't what I was expecting at all. it's a little gem of a shop. You can get pretty much any household staple you need and hope to find in any convenience store, and some more esoteric items. They carry excellent quality goods such as my little indulgence of fair trade organic Choco Sol Coffee beans, as well as more standard staples. Beautiful handmade goods created by local makers, lovely treats, simple groceries and dry goods, and the nicest proprietors you could possibly imagine. Nice little corner store in a non descript neighbourhood. They sell all the standard stuff you might expect along with some cute quirky home stuff e.g. pillows with sayings, moose heads, mugs, gifts, knick knacks, etc. Nice little seating area outside too if you want to enjoy your ice cream or whatever you bought inside. Would I go again? Sure. I have a relative who lives nearby so probably will. Especially since there is NOTHING else to do in that neighbourhood except walk by. read more
