We have no idea why...we spend a lot of money each time we shop and certainly don't act in a suspicious manner. Perhaps it's because we are a mixed-race couple, maybe dress too casually or are considered scruffy, too fat, too old, or a combination of biases? I understand a rise in the cost of grocery items correlates to a rise in shoplifting, but seriously, enough is enough already. We have experienced a plethora of odd incidents relating to staff following us, scrutiny from till operatives as we walk down each aisle and staff has literally breathed down our necks at the self-checkout, even when putting on my gloves after paying. Although we have joked about this problem, the realization that this does not happen elsewhere has clinched the decision to call it quits and not visit the store again. I believe it's better to have some self-respect and not allow retail employees to treat you in this manner... so Metro at 221 Lloyd Manor Rd, Etobicoke can go and do one...maybe hassle someone else with their "isms" for a change.

My kids enjoyed going around the store to spot eggs to match on the ballot you pick up from at the Lotto area upon entry. Parking situation is a tad annoying since it's at First Markham Place, and it's always busy here. Overall, worth the hectic parking lot and the amount of people. When the store is busy and there are lots of people, nobody does stuff like that. So our options are; deal with horrible parking lot on the weekends or deal with power tripping low intelligence security guards during the week. One time, he asked me to go in while my son would wait at the door. What?!? What kind of policy is that? I'm sure there's no such policy but the man didn't understand the instructions.

But, wouldn't veggie activists be upset now? I had no problem finding this supermarket. It was brightly lit when the sun was set at around 6 pm on a Tuesday night. I found a parking spot relatively close to the main entrance and backed my car in. I then walked into the supermarket. I love visiting a new supermarket. I always feel comfortable in one, no matter where I am. I felt the same thing here. The produce section was amazing. It was vast and looked impeccable. I picked up celery that was flawless and wrapped in plastic wrap. I also got a huge avocado. I found Tagpuan straight ahead when I walked into the store. It's a great addition to a Filipino supermarket. The seafood section is impressive. There were huge tanks of fish. There was so much to look at, from pear mango drinks, to huge jackfruit. I didn't walk the entire supermarket, but I want to return to do just that. I was hungry, so I fetched my dinner and a few groceries before checking out. I had a friendly woman at the cashout area. My items were less than $10. I was paying with a debit card, which meant that a 25-cent charge was added to my grocery total. I was good with it. I don't carry cash during a pandemic and it was such a negligible cost. The woman bagged my items. I thanked her and left with my dinner and groceries. I enjoyed coming here. I dropped by this Food Basics last month when I was shopping at Emerald Park, which has a food…read morecourt and a bunch of stores on the first floor. This Food Basics occupies a good portion of the second floor. I was here to hit the food court. The stall with fried soup baos and wonton soup is my favourite. Nanashake used to also be here, but it closed. Soul Made has taken over this stall. Because I was here for food court takeout, I needed a place to park. I normally park out on the street and pay through my Green P app. I did something different and parked in the underground lot. You can get complimentary parking for 45 minutes if you go up to Food Basics. Locate a standalone kiosk where you register your car's licence plate for 45 minutes of free parking. It was an easy process and such a nice gesture. If you do need more time, you are urged to use the Honk app (I'd assume that you can also do it through a browser) and pay for more parking time. I didn't need extra time. Instead, I did a quick look at this store before I left. It's a decent grocery store. It's bright and nicely organized. The produced looked fresh, especially the lettuce and celery. There were a bunch of cashiers working the checkout area. I was there mid-afternoon and there was a decent stream of shoppers hitting this store. I didn't need to get groceries, but I enjoyed popping in to briefly browse. I look forward to going back and shopping here, especially with complimentary parking. The trend these days is to have grocery stores built in to a high rise condo or building. It seems to work nicely to have this Food Basics on the second floor. I like the change coming here than hitting my local standalone one in suburbia. (329)
