So many reviewers have commented on the historic building and it's beauty that has lasted through the years for one of the first Carnegie Libraries. The Library serves over 30,000 library users, and has over 70,000 books.. Your library card opens up a world of information. According to the library website " your library cards gives you access to computers, hot spots, printers, data bases, ebooks, and much more." As for research there is the Kentucky Room that offers historical information about both Shelby County and Kentucky. In my review I want to exclaim about all the Programs and Events this library sponsors for adults, teens, and children. As lsted on the library website there is; Slow Burn Book Clib, Yoga, Brown Bag Book Club, Preschool Story Time, Chair Yoga, The Writer's Group, Baby Storytime, Cardio Drummer's, and Tai Chi. I have also read with interest in our local newspaper that there is a librarian that specializes in helping people with tracing their roots and completing searches on family trees. In addition to all the regular programs this prize of a library sponsors all sorts of continual seasonal events. You have already had the chance to read about the iceless ice skating but thats not enough. Events listed on the library website include Merry Mug Makers for teens, LaBuBu Holiday Ornament workshop for teens, Merry Clarkin Christmas Party, Festive Movie Night playing " National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" and more. Libraries have changed through the years but I am thankful to have such a complete and active library. The only drawback to this library experience was not their fault when the local Reformation Church had members check out books "as an act of civil disobedience to remove books that did not agree with their beliefs and refuse to return them" Fear not the list of books was printed in the local newspaper and once again I'm thankful that the Shelbyville Community answered the call tenfold to replace the books and provide money for the future to expand topics of interest to ALL PEOPLE.

I love this historical building. It was built in 1905, on property that used to belong to a church…read morethat burnt down in 1890s. The architecture is lovely, and even the old church graveyard is out back near the parking lot. The library staff is very friendly. The hours are so nice and accommodating. There are plenty of computers for use. Tons of reading books, tables and privacy. There is a research-genealogy room. There is a separate floor for children's library and their own computers for their use.....nice touch!!! I joined a book reading competition and there are free classes for adult education offered here...Great library

The historic Oldham County Courthouse has stood as the centerpiece of LaGrange for nearly 200…read moreyears. As the 2nd oldest courthouse in Kentucky, it has served the community in many ways! The people of Oldham County fought hard to preserve this historic piece of history. Recently, the State of Kentucky approved $29 Million dollars to be used to renovate. Work has started on this project and projected to be completed in 2024. From WEHR Construction:The Oldham County Courthouse is a very complex and unique project. This project will consist of preserving, remodeling, and adding to the 6,355 square foot original courthouse. The 900-ton historic structure was originally constructed in 1828, making it the second oldest courthouse in the state of Kentucky. With experience, knowledge, and coordination, Edwards Moving & Rigging will be relocating the historic building to accommodate the 47,620 square foot addition. Considering the time and patience needed to successfully execute a project of this nature, the new Oldham County Judicial Center will be completed in August of 2024.

City Hall ... a well known spot in Louisville's downtown, but not a spot most of us need or want to…read morevisit. I spent time there with my son and classmates for their mock trial competition. We found ourselves in small courtrooms used throughout the week by our local judges and attorneys. You will enter through the front doors and pass through security. Pockets must be emptied and bags placed on the scanner. You can bring in drinks and food but no glass containers. Vending machines can also be found inside. Bathrooms were in terrible shape, sometimes out of toilet paper. Overall this isn't an exciting building structurally. I was hoping it would feel more historical and interesting. Below is the information from the Louisville Metro Government website, which gives insight of its history and current usage. ..................... Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, this Louisville landmark at 601 W. Jefferson St. is an impressive piece of civil Architecture and a metaphor for Louisville's Post War optimism and can-do attitude. Its exuberance is a stylistic counterpoint to the far more austere, 1836 Greek Revival style county courthouse across 6th St. Before city hall was built, there was no city Government building. City officials had shared space in the County Courthouses. Plans for the city hall were initiated when a design competition was help with the winner receiving five hundred dollars. In April 1867 the winning design, created by Louisville architects John Andrewartha and CS Mergell, was chosen. By the summer of 1870 the final plans of construction had been drawn by Andrewartha, in association with local architects C.L. Stancliff and Co. The existing government buildings on the site were demolished, and ground was broken for the building's foundation. The city engineer, I.M. St. John had been chosen by Louisville General Counsel to oversee the project, and Andrewartha was named the managing architect. Built with stone from the White River quarries near Salem, Indiana, city hall's construction took place between 1870 and 1873 at a cost of $464,778. The city hall, with its three stories and raised basement, was a blend of Italianate motifs and the French Second Empire style that was prominent in civic buildings after the Civil War. The edifice is also characterized by prolific use of symbolic ornamentation. Louisville's trust in progress and railroads is reflected in the buildings upper carvings. For instance, the pediment over the main entrance displays a bas relief of the city seal represented by a train "plowing through the wilderness" past such Southern flora as a palm tree and bearing the slogan "Progress 1871" This not only indicated the direction of Louisville's principal trade but was also an apt symbol of the tremendous influence the railroads, especially the Louisville and Nashville line, had on the city's commercial development. Likewise, the stone livestock carvings along the sides of the building reflect the importance of Louisville's Stockyards in her economic history. Another prominent feature of the city hall is its 196-foot-high, four faced clock tower with a mansard roof, built by Henry Whitestone in 1876 after an 1875 fire had damaged the original. A major exterior restoration of City Hall was undertaken in 2017. The limestone walls were cleaned, masonry joints were tuck pointed, and windows were renovated. During the restoration, several architectural elements were replaced such as the limestone columns and cast-iron corbels. Many of the same methods used to construct the elements were used to recreate the replacement pieces. Thought the exterior has remained largely unchanged, several renovations and remodeling projects have left little of the original interior intact. Today, the building houses the offices and chambers of the Louisville Metro Council.

I began working on the edges of Middletown almost 20 years ago, and back then there was nothing…read moremuch in Middletown that stood out other than a few local shops and cafes on Old Main Street. I also knew of Middletown and Hite Elementary, plus Eastern HS - all good schools. Now, Middletown looks different. I still work nearby and now I live just a couple of stop lights away. It continues to be a good place to shop local on Old Main, including Prickly Pear, Judy's Consignment and shops in the buildings once used as the first grocery store, or post office. Their city hall building also has a small walking circle and tables to enjoy lunch outside. A few local cafes have also remained, such as Alley Cat Cafe. During the fall they host a weekend fair, shutting down the street and shooting off fireworks. For Christmas they light the path with lights. Getting back on Shelbyville Rd, this area has popped with new businesses and restaurants. Most are chains but some are local. Check out the Cheddar Box, Paul's Fruit Market and Havana Rumba. Getting Target and Walmart in Middletown truly changed things. Nothing had been there! Now you'll find things to do and eat all the way to Gene Snyder (and beyond!) - House of Boom, Planet Fitness, Cyclebar, Club Pilates, Feeders Supply and more. Middletown is becoming a popular spot for families to purchase a home, or for new businesses to move in.

Perhaps all the individuals that come here today will have changed . In your local community, there's always something spooky, here at Sixth and Park is the Witches Tree. In days of old it was believed to be cursed. It's believed that a local coven worshipped here. We have visited this site many times. It's a local flavor close to Central Park. They have onsite parking for free. This is a free exhibit. If you have time it's a stop along the Haunted Louisville Trail. When you come, and so many individuals come from all over to see this tree. Beauty of course is in the eyes of the beholder. It's beautiful in all its glory. It's still standing today. It's a celebrated tradition to see this . The tree is located in the older part of historic Louisville. The houses along side this tree area are inspiring. Come visit if you dare .

On 10/28/25 we had 24 HOA Residents from Swan Pointe join…read moreus at the VFW Post 1170. We went over to the bar to get our drinks. Heather was our hard working bartender. Then we got in line to pick up our dinners. Rick was our amazing chef and he had prepared an 8-oz Baked Pork Chop, Baked Sweet Potatos, Sliced Apples, Salad, or a Cup of Chili. Our price was $12. They also had three choices of desserts for $2.00 - pumpkin pie, chocolate cake or cookies. The Pork Chops were thick and tender enough to cut with your fork. The Sweet Potatoes and the Apples were so good. They tasted just like my mom used to make. Thank you to all that came tonight to help support this outstanding Veteran's Organization. Robyn
