We stopped in here to get a dog bone for my pup and had a wonderful intereaction with the employee behind the counter. I could assume it's the owner, but unsure. We talked about dogs and their habits and his dog loving these bones (which he was right, mine loved it too). A week or two ago, after a long day at work, I wondered into old world meats. I always liked the place but hadn't been there for a long time. I was instantly greeted and asked what I was looking for. It was right about then that my eyes adjusted from the bright outdoors light to the inside light. I realized they were clearly not open for business; the door was just unlocked and there were a few people working inside. I felt a little silly. I apologized and started heading for the exit. A man (I assume the owner) engaged me in conversation and told me that they had closed for a few months during the dead of winter but would be opening in the near future. We had a short, conversation about the meat business, how they had installed a new smoker out back, and other small talk. He then went and got the meat I was looking for out of the freezer and sold it to me despite being closed. It was not an expensive order by any means. Probably hardly worth the time it took him to find it. It's experiences like this that make you want to go out of your way to give a place your business. read more

Amazing selection of meats, cheeses and seafood. I came in yesterday to get a good quality steak after a few bad experiences with the local supermarkets steaks. Everyone in the store was extremely friendly and helpful. They explained why that we bought at the supermarket came out so tough. They also explained the cuts of meat to us so that we did not make the same mistake twice. They also marinated and seasoned the steak for us. When we took it home, we had instructions to wait awhile to put our steaks on the grille, it was a very long hour! After we put our steaks on the grille we had agreed that this was the best steak that we had ever eaten. After shopping here, we will never even consider buying our steaks anywhere Else or even going out to eat a steak at any other restaurant. I can't wait to come back and try all of the other stuff that they have there. This place excites me. read more

I went out of my way to stop by this place while in Duluth on the recommendation of a friend. He claimed that they made a "Philly" bratwurst that was out of this world. As a lover of bratwurst, I was anxious to try them. My wife and I checked out the cooler with all their brats, but they didn't have any in there. Apparently we must be invisible, because not one of the three employees behind the meat cases bothered to acknowledge our presence. After about 5 minutes of being ignored, we decided to leave. To be clear, there was only one other customer in the store at the time. I'd skip this place and seek out a butcher shop that has some semblance of customer service. read more

I rarely write reviews, however the poor quality of the product and the indifference of the staff prompts me to do so. Wanted to make a special Italian meal. I have experienced good Italian sausage all over the country including Brooklyn NY where I was born. So instead of just buying at the supermarket I looked up Fichtners , where I used to get sausage years ago but they were replaced in listings by old world meats I called first to see if they had home made Italian sausage and the guy put me on old to find out. This should have been my first clue. I went up there got the sausage and made sausage and pepper sandwiches for company. Sausage was awful. Loved the sandwiches I bought. Could not eat them fast enough. What I did not like was the political slur that one of the regular customers was slinging at me and a coworker because we walked in with masks on. You would think that a place that sells fresh cut meat would make mandatory for its customers to where masks at all times. The regular customer in question was calling the manager/owner by his name and looking for praise from him, as he, is still sad his candidate did not win the election. I really didn't give a crap about what he was saying. It was the fact that the establishment was not enforcing the mask required by state mandates with food establishments and as on the door. When we walked in, they pulled up masks, as we left I did notice the masks came down. I will be reporting this to the appropriate authorities as well about my experience. Great beef bologna. Excellent jumbo shrimp. Steaks are on point. Meets all your meat needs for grilling and barbecue. Service is guarded and gruff but they deliver the goods and have some nice cuts. Worth the trip up the hill from I35. I'll be back. read more

Been here before, I live 90 miles away, loved the steaks. Stopped by today for oxtails and also picked up a pound of ground chuck. Best ground meat I have ever had. Perfect burger, my hubby and I are absolutely sated. It may seem like a small thing, but a good burger, medium rare, salt and pepper, plain bun... you need good meat to achieve simple perfection. read more

A week ago I stopped and bought polish sausage only to get home and find that I was given bratwurst, mistakes happen. Today I stopped in to get polish sausage and made sure to watch the butcher grab polish. he did. He then proceeded to the cash register where he removed his mask, licked his fingers and proceeded to open up a plastic bag to place my purchases in. I told him to pass on the bag. Had brats and polish sausage from here a few weeks ago. Absolutely the saltiest sausage I've ever had. My wife and I each at a few bites before throwing the rest out. Just tasted like salty meat, no other flavors. read more

Good old fashioned meat market the way it's supposed to be. We usually buy from the fresh case but don't shy away from any of their frozen or prepackaged stuff. They know each of their vendors and it shows in the quality of their product. Excellent service, also. Don't miss the homemade sausages! read more

Great meat but a little pricy. I like their oven-ready chicken breasts, especially the southwest one. They also have gift certificates-areal plus for my kids as Christmas presents. read more
