When the owner, Jon Bolin, met with us, he pointed out some areas of the original design that wouldn't meet our goals of low maintenance and also some aspects that were unnecessarily increasing the cost of the project. He suggested some modifications that we really liked, and we moved forward with having him update the design and submit a quote. He gave us a price break on the design updates since we had already paid the other company for a design. His price was competitive with the estimates we had from the previous company. Jon's crew completed the entire installation in 4 weeks. Roberto and Angel were at the property nearly every day during this time and we were very happy with the work they did. They worked hard and were very polite whenever they needed anything from us. Some days, a larger crew came out, such as when the concrete was poured. This included oversight by Marty, who was also great to work with. Jon was on site several days each week to make sure things were going well, talk us through anything that had come up, and answer any questions we had. He was quick to identify and address anything that needed to be adjusted, such as moving a drip line to allow for AC installation we have coming up. We are very happy with the end result and have gotten many compliments on our new yard. Jon and the entire Timberwood crew were easy to work with. Jon communicated well throughout the process and once installation was done, came out the following week to talk us through maintenance and see how everything was looking. He has promised to come out again in 3 weeks to adjust the irrigation schedule once the plants are established. We definitely recommend Timberwood and will happily use them in the future if we need any additional work done.

I am in need of a major landscaping project at my Scripps Ranch home, both front and back. My current landscape is not too bad but we want a lot of plants removed and a drought friendly new design installed. We also need new irrigation. After reading reviews on Yelp and Angi LIst, I gave John (owner) a call from Timberwood. We scheduled an initial consultation at the house, but unfortunately, I was just getting over Covid and John felt uncomfortable and wanted to reschedule for Monday in the morning. Totally get it, no big deal. I decided to work from home to make sure I was there to walk John around the yard. We discussed our design ideas and he gave some feedback. He sounded very interested in the project and could make my yard beautiful. He said, "I will go back to the office and call you with a ballpark figure of how much this will cost". Great! One week goes by...crickets...two weeks go by...crickets...one month...still no call or text from John. I give him a call twice and leave a message...no response! If John and Timberwood didn't want this project, just be honest and tell me! Instead, you decide to just not call or follow up? If John provides this little service now before a project, imagine how bad it will be once they start. I have heard that contractors can be flakey, but this is ridiculous. It was a complete waste of time and effort meeting John. There are a lot of great landscapers in San Diego to choose from...ones that will call you back and actually be honest about your project. After removing all the old existing vegetation he revamped our irrigation system, replacing many old valves and installed new drip irrigation lines. He selected a variety of attractive plants that don't require much water and planted them in an very attractive layout. On two subsequent occasions, months after he completed the work, he provided sound advice on adjusting the irrigation to some of the plants which needed less watering than others. The gorilla hair mulch (shredded bark) he used to cover the slope has reduced water use and erosion. Overall he did an excellent job and I highly recommend him.

We'd recently completed a large interior renovation that was extremely challenging and refused to have that kind of experience again. So she sent out Jeff from SDLC and it was night and day difference. He actually listened to what we wanted. I knew what pavers I wanted and he was able to procure them easily. No fight about even having pavers installed like the previous contractor who was trying to force us into DG. He actually measured our yard. He gave us lots of suggestions that we implemented. He even came up with a better irrigation plan that involved my husband renting a jackhammer to bust up a concrete walkway so we could install the new system. Best decision and worth all the labor we did. There were a few bumps and some miscommunication but overall, based on our previous experiences with contractors, this was a DREAM. The issues were resolved quickly with zero argument or pushback. It felt surreal, honestly! The customer service line answered the phone and called us back if we left a message. Very responsive. The price on the very detailed quote was $7k less than the other guy, included everything we wanted and the pricing all made sense and seemed reasonable. The guys showed up every day on time, worked hard and cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. Octavio is some sort of paver genius. It was amazing to watch him work. I was thoroughly impressed. We did end up having to move some plants because they weren't planted evenly spaced (even though we placed everything exactly). Annoying, so just be sure you're there on digging/ planting day to make sure the holes are exactly where you want them. But overall, my husband and I didn't think having to move a few plants/ dig new holes was a major issue. They made sure to ask me about the trees/ palm to ensure they were exactly where I wanted. It was the smaller plants that got a little wonky. It's been 6 months and everything in our yard is thriving and we are SO happy with our decision to use SDLC. The hurricane came through and I was a bit worried about the water runoff, but they sloped the yard exactly the way we wanted and we had zero issues.

He gave me an excellent price for replacing the 4 valves that controlled my front sprinkler system, fixing a broken pipe damaged by a tree root and installed a new sprinkler controller. The work was professionally done. Then, I asked him to look at my back sprinkler system which for months was no longer watering adequately. After looking over the sprinklers and doing a flow test, he determined that I had a blockage somewhere in pipe running through the house to the back. I quickly identified where the blockage was (a water filter system) and took it out of service, which restored my system to normal functioning. I would never have thought of that without his expertise. For quality work, price and expertise, he cannot be beaten in my estimation.
