Purchased hammered head style lag bolts, 8 pcs for approximately $24 Must actually be foreign made junk. I have extensive tools and life long experience with hardware. NO socket or wrench, of any size, SAE or Metric will fit the hexhead. Either to small or very sloppy fit making it very difficult to tighten down. There's no excuse for this. Don't waste your money on this junk, overpriced hardware. read more

Okay everyone, I want to give Old West Iron a loud applause for the excellent Customer Service and outstanding product quality! If I could give this company 6 stars I would. I ordered to have two custom post caps made for stairs in my house that is being remodeled in Orange County. I searched through several vendors and nobody wanted to touch my design ideas. Not only did Old West Iron deliver, their creative design team improved on the ideas and we finished with what I would consider nothing less than two pieces of art. The custom builder on my home (i.e., MJ Star) was so impressed with their work they are going to refer other customers when looking for custom iron work. MJ Star is known for custom home building and remodeling for past 30 years in Southern California. If you have ever visited Laguna or Newport Beach or seen homes in the area, then more than likely you have seen one of their designs. I believe Old West Iron deserves this recognition and I would like to give a special should out to Tess. Not good. Not good on so many levels; previous reviewer stated that he got his order in less than two weeks; in less than 4 months things have changed with OWI. I ordered some flat nails and two (2) door straps on 07/03/20; I received my order yesterday (8/11), ALMOST SIX WEEKS LATER. Communication is not good as some email inquiries are responded to and some are not. When I am told that "I cannot give you status now" but will call tomorrow, I expect the promised phone call. None was forthcoming and a follow up call a few days later (from me) did give me the inquired information. An email address provided on the website for "status" is not functional at any time as your mail bounces back as "undeliverable". I was told that my order was shipped on 8/6 and then I was told my order was shipped on 8/7. The product was of good quality thick iron, but the hammered effect I requested (at additional charge) was not consistent over the face of one strap and difficult to determine if was done on the other strap. The customer should be made aware of the lead time or be provided a prospective shipping date (especially when the website states "1 to 2 week turnaround usually"); if knowing that the lead time was so long, I would have sought another vendor. I don't know if the virus has or is affecting the business, but I trust that things will improve. Until then, "caveat emptor". read more

I couldn't be happier. I ordered a pair of corbels from Old West Iron for an arbor my father-in-law and I are making for my daughter's wedding. As a designer, owner of an injection molding company, and car restorer he has a critical eye and we are both impressed at the quality of craftsmanship. I loved that the turn around time was less than 2 weeks and the price was more than reasonable. I live on the east coast now, but spent the first 24 years of my life in Idaho, so supporting a small company there was an added bonus. Now I'm hoping for new projects so I can order more. read more
