If you've never been to Old Town Albuquerque, I'll give you a quick description: A shaded, Spanish-styled central square, surrounded by historic buildings, including an adobe church; Many building are filled with shops and restaurants. Most of the shops are touristy; Think "gift shop". My dad calls these "the rubber tomahawk stores"; And sadly they comprise about 80% of what you will find here. (And you will find 80% of the people in them too) Then there is the other 20%; like Old Town Antiques No rubber tomahawks here (or dreamcatchers, God forbid). Just the real deal: either colonial Spanish antiques, native Indian crafts or early American antiques. Any turquoise jewelry here is the real stuff, not the hardened resin so prevalent in the other shops (yet still sold as "turquoise jewelry"). Indian rugs aren't copies churned out by a machine. And a hand forged tool from 1872 is just what it says it is. And yes, these things may be a hundred years old, or more; And yes, they are often beautiful, interesting, unique, and always one-of-a-kind. And so you pay more than you would for a rug or bracelet or clay pot pulled from a shelf full of identical copies. But isn't that the point?

My husband and I stumbled upon one of Frank's estate sales while driving home a little over a year…read moreago. It was the first estate sale we'd ever been to. Since then, we've signed up on their email list and have gone to almost every sale they've had. Frank and his team are very professional, friendly, helpful and honest. Everyone seems to enjoy what they do and are knowledgeable about what's in the house for sale. It is a very fun and lively atmosphere, which makes it even more enjoyable to go to. What I've noticed from an AHES sale, as opposed to the others we've now been to, is that they are respectful of the house and their owners too. That has not always been the case with other estate sale companies. My husband and I are now experienced buyers who don't mind digging a little to find unexpected or long lost treasures (to us). We'll continue to go to their sales, if not to find something old/new and interesting, but just to say hi to Frank and his team. What a great company with even better people!

I needed a company on short notice, and American was the only one available. Initially, I found…read morethem to be open and cordial, and felt they were reputable. That's the key word,"reputable". They were NOT, but I didn't find out until the sale was over. First, I was told they had a HUGE following on Facebook, but my friends and I could never find info on Facebook, or anywhere else on social media or on their website. I asked if signs had been posted around the neighborhood. "Oh, yes, we have lots of signs all around." Again, my neighbors drove all around the area, and found ONE sign. I was assured there would be an ad in the paper, but none had ever appeared. ALL THESE LIES BECAME EVIDENT because the turnout was extremely low, and the agent said he was so surprised because there were usually crowds of people at his sales. I must agree with the review of Melissa S., the woman, although pleasant when we first met, turned out to be rude and intimidating. HERE'S THE REAL PROBLEM - THE MONEY. At the end of the sale, I RECEIVED A CHECK AND A RECEIPT WHICH DID NOT LIST WHAT ITEMS WERE SOLD. Therefore, I had no idea what was sold and for what price. Any amount of items could have been sold and not recorded....how would anyone know? Considering the home was 3,500 sq.ft., and filled with many pricey items, including jewelry, the total sum we received was not at all consistent with the items sold, nor with the prices they listed on the various items . THE VERY LAST STRAW!! There was a long, black mink coat which belonged to someone from the frigid weather back East, worth upward of $5,000. We asked how he would price it, and he said he would leave the price open so he could negotiate with anyone interested. We told him not to sell it for less than $1,500, UNLESS HE CALLED US PRIOR TO SELLING IT so that we could discuss it. HE AGREED. HE THEN SOLD IT FOR $50 AND NEVER CALLED US PRIOR TO SELLING IT, as agreed. He claimed some little old lady came in at the end of the sale and she was freezing SO HE FELT SORRY FOR HER AND SOLD IT TO HER FOR $50!!!! Time does not allow me to list ALL the "questionable'' activities during that sale, but I would be more than willing to speak with anyone at American Estates who may feel these statements are false or inaccurate in any way. THEY ARE NOT.
