Nice old pub on the Thames with loads of indoor and outdoor seating and nice views. Food menu is pretty good and the food is also quite ok. Staff are pretty friendly and helpful and I enjoyed my meal here. They lack some choice on draught beer but plenty of lagers in tap. Prices are a bit high but that's London I suppose. read more

We went for a Sunday roast here yesterday and it was brilliant! We were sat outside on the terrace with views of the river. The staff were lovely and very helpful and it was easy to order through the app (can also order with the staff). The roasts were delicious and very big (look at the size of that yorkshire!!!!) and we finished with their sticky toffee pudding which was very yum. read more

So ... first time in London. Walking the Thames. Stopped in for something cold on one of the 100 degree days. My first question: "Can you make a Mojito?" Answer: "No." Ok. Not everyone is going to know every drink. So my second question: "What do you have that's cold and sweet?" My wife's preference. "Juice." My third question: "What do you have that's cold and sweet with alcohol?" "Juice." "Does juice have alcohol?" "No." I am black and American. The last thing I reach for when I'm in such situations is race. And the individual with whom i spoke? Appeared to be from somewhere in Asia say ... west of Laos, east of Afghanistan. Not an individual from whom i would expect such an attitude. But ... as my mother-in-law was fond of saying "There's a fist Sunday in every month." So ... I asked simply: "Do I perceive a reluctance to serve me here?" "No." Ok. At this point I raised my hand and counted off on my fingers: "Alcohol, cold, sweet?" To which I got a shrug and a stare. And silence for perhaps ... 10 seconds? At which point I simply turned and left. Here's my conclusion: absent a Klan outfit it's difficult to divine people's thoughts or intentions. Difficult to know their feelings or prejudice. But! It's not difficult to sense a lack of welcome. An absence of hospitality. My suggestion: if you are black? I would steer clear of this establishment. My impression is that they can do without our money. read more

A perfectly fine pub sitting on the Thames in Hammersmith. Great views of the river from the outdooor patio if you can get a seat. The interior was nice, with a nautical theme, but was deserted when we visited. The drinks list did not strike me as overly adventerous. read more

Yeah - A great pub on the river - This is the one that stands out from the others on this stretch of the Thames. Biggish pub with plenty of space, a nice little restaurant on the side and I have seen various Wedding Receptions taking place here so it must stand up. Wonderful setting in the summer with a nice sized grassed area to the side make this a great place to go and relax in the summer months and a great place to hole up in during the winter months. They have a great selection of flavoured vodka's here, so leave the car at home - take the tube and let go and have a session. Food for any taste whether it be a sandwich, a burger, or a proper evening menu, good wine list and the staff are really on the case in terms of service. Busy and bustling but with lots of space both inside and out, it is a good place for everyone - young, old, families, and groups of friends. See you there... read more

This is great pub on the river. The good points to it include: 1. It is roomy with an upstairs area with three seperate sections which are all available for hire. 2. The food is really yummy - good portions and decent prices. 3. There are good outside seating spaces and they let you take your drinks and sit on the river wall - perfect for a lazy summery Sunday. 4. Helpful, friendly, efficient service - something which really ought to be a given but unfortunately isn't in some parts. The one downer is the tricky location. It's on the towpath on the Hammersmith/Chiswick side of the Thames, but far enough out of the way from either to be a little off-putting, especially in the dark. There are other options closer to transport links which probably mean it suffers a little, but it's definitely worth the trek. read more

Nothing beats watching the sunset over the Thames while sipping some Pimms and watching the rowers go by. And the Old Ship is the perfect place to do just this. With most of their clientele spilling out onto the Thames Path and lawn, it's the best summer pub. Came here last night for a private party in the lovely upstairs room, which made for fantastic views and gentle breezes with lovely company. Enjoyed the broad bean salad with "roasted" tomatoes (aka sundried) and turmeric potatoes. Look at that! A healthy meal at a pub!! It's very easy for riverfront bars in London to apply zero charm and just serve drinks; people will flock anyway at the first sign of sunshine. The Old Ship, however, defies that by keeping its delightful boathouse feel and generally seemingly like a pleasant place to be. We stopped by after a very long walk along the river, just as the sun was setting, and grabbed a small table outside. We were quite surprised as we turned a corner on a seemingly quiet bend of the river - I didn't expect to find a suitable watering hold, but I am glad we did. It was lovely! We could see across the Thames and from behind us, in the bar itself, came the pleasant sounds of conversation and people enjoying themselves. It was Saturday, and I fully expect most pubs in London to be full of boozed up crowds by this time, but here it was relaxed and charming. When I went in for drinks, I immediately remarked that the look was just gorgeous, and I also welcomed the choice of drink I had at the bar. Of course, it is a Youngs bar, not an independent setup, but the good thing with Youngs is that the bar is free to choose their own menu. They claimed "the best fish & chips in London" and probably were right. Unfortunately we did not stay for food, so I will save that extra star for the time I actually see for myself! It probably did fill up a bit later on, but for this evening, we enjoyed our calm little seat, in very pleasant surroundings. Hooray for places like this! read more

For about seven glorious years I lived around the back of the old ship so it was my local. Outstanding spot on the river, great grass area to chill in the nice weather. Like all the great pubs on the upper/lower mall there's interesting history. A good menu and drinks options make this a great destination itself or part of a larger Thames crawl. Love it. read more

I was here for my housemate's engagement party. It was quite a trek to get here from the nearest tube station but it was set right by the river and amidst several posh looking houses, so quite the neighbourhood pub, I gather. I didn't quite have a typical pub experience because a room was booked for the party and wine was ordered by the hosts by the bottle and we had canapes and cupcakes... but I did have a peek at their wine list and menu - house wine by the glass at a rate upwards of 8quid? Hmm, prices certainly reflect the location and net worth of the locality... It's a nice spot, bright and cheery for a pub and their food specials look promising. Wow! What a beautiful place to drink! We sat upstairs on the balcony watching the boats go passed on the sunny day! The interior and exterior has that old pub feeling. In all my reviews, I do state how boring pubs are... cause their all the same. But this place has a charm that's worth coming to the other side of London for! Beer list... all the same. A marvellous pub right on the river without being snobby or crazily overpriced. The Ship actually is quite spacious and has the loveliest porch for outdoor seating. Arrived on a very wet, weekday afternoon, following recommendations from the Fat Gay Vegan. They indeed have a some choices for vegans, and though it was not on the menu on the day, they made the vegetarian burger I had walked 20 minutes in the rain for. Lovely soft bread baguette, cashew nut cheese and skinny fries for £12. The pub was virtually empty, and they accidently messed up my order, which was rectified with apologies. However, I did sit, cold, wet and hungry for most of the time I was there, and then had to quickly eat my meal in order not to be late. read more

I like this place. It's not as crowded as the other bars on the Thames and the bar service is just as fast er slow as all the others. Seriously why does it take so long to get a pint everywhere??? Came here for Sunday lunch, because it's in a great spot along the Thames Path. However, it seems the location means they don't need to make an effort with food, or securing return customers. We ordered 4 meals, and nothing was mentioned about a long wait time. After 45 minutes, I went to the kitchen to ask for an update and was told "5 minutes". 20 minutes later 2 of our meals arrived. The first was a £7 roasted veg and quinoa salad. It was pathetic. No dressing, a few grains of quinoa, some chunks of carrot, and a handful of lettuce. The second dish was veggie shepherd's pie. The pie itself was nice but tiny for the £11 price tag. It was accompanied by cold soggy cabbage, broccoli and carrots. Another 20 minutes passed and there was no sign of the other 2 meals ordered. Half of our party had a plane to catch, so we had no choice but to cancel the last two meals and get a refund. Although the bar staff who refunded my card was pleasant and apologetic, another member of wait staff asked us, in an accusatory manner, "Haven't you ever been here on a Sunday?" Really? read more

Utterly fantastic exactly what I needed on a hot Saturday lunchtime! A lovely snug pub, with outdoor tables for when it's hot perched right next to the river. This is a lovely quirky building with plush features (feels a little like being in a den), warm wood and comfy seats. A really lovely vibrant pub with charm. A beautiful pub in Hammermith, its like an old fashioned Victorian summer house. They have a large patio out front over-looking the Thames, it bright and sunny and perfect for a sunday roast but the food is good at any time day or night! Im a big steak fan but have struggled to find a really great steak in London without dealing a crippling blow to the bank account but the Old Ship certainly delivers, the steak was one of the best Ive had in London or in the world for that matter, a perfect cut of meat with no fat, cooked just how I asked, juicy and tender as butter. It came with a big mushroom on top and a choice of sauces, not that it needed sauce, it was quite delicious plain! It was well worth the £14 that it cost me and far superior to what many 'steak houses' offer,I will be back! read more

The interior of the pub has been opened up to create a spacious and welcoming atmosphere but still retaining its character. We had lunch here Saturday, 14th March 2009 (apparently about a week after they re-opened following a refurb). A decent lunch (beef burger, fish and chips) with two beers cost us 23.17 GBP. I have fond memories of this place and used to pass by when I was a child and run to the beer garden and play with the old cotton wheel that was there. This place has been around a long time and is well established. You couldn't be closer to the River Thames and makes a pleasant change of scenery being in Hammersmith instead of the usual river pubs in Central London. There is a downside to it's popularity though as unfortunately it does get very crowded, however, the overspill is the fact that you can sit on the grass in the park bit and watch the world go by. I would also recommend their Sunday breakfast and was rewarding for getting up extra early and bagging a riverside, beer garden seat, tucking into a very hearty cooked breakfast. read more

Nice pub on the bank of the Thames. The views are beautiful if you're lucky enough to get a table on the front patio, and it can be a bit of a sun trap also. Can get super busy in the summer, especially early evening where it's really just standing room outside. I have also eaten in the Orangery, which is a bookable part of the restaurant with full table service etc. The views again are over the river and the desor very clean and modern, would recommend for a special occasion. read more

A great summer pub within 15 min walk from Hammersmith station. There is a balcony that overlooks the river, some picnic benches outside the front of the pub which also overlook the river, and a green area for when there are no other seats left. Good selection of the usual alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, plus ales and large selection of flavoured vodkas. Food is canteen style so head to the service area and pick what you want. Food is good and you can eat outside or in. Expect the pub to be busy in summer. It attracts a young crowd! read more

Rubbish service, limited menu and expensive (and limited) wine list. We had to queue for 15-20 mins to buy a drink as they only ever a maximum of 2 people behind the bar (this has been my experience both times I've been - given that it's a pub on the river you'd think they'd put more staff on when they know it's sunny.) We had to wait 45 mins for 2 orders of fish and chips, and after 25 mins we gave up waiting for our drinks to arrive (after spending ages queueing at the bar for drinks we stupidly assumed that table service might be quicker. Not so!) Walking back along the river afterwards we couldn't help noticing that the other pubs along there were much busier and I know exactly why now - because the Ship is further away and significantly worse. Very disappointing experience. It used to be good and I have been very happy in the past but I wonder whether there is new management because the food was very poor and the service was disappointing. The bangers were terrible. I asked them if the were 'bangers' with a low meat content and they said, no no its a good sausage. Lies! Won't be going back in a hurry. read more
