Wanted to take it for test ride but they didn't want me to because it was winter. Roads were bare and I have ridden motorcycles in winter many times. Battery died the second time we tried to start it to do a short test ride. They said they'd get a battery for it but didn't replace the battery which I discovered when bike failed to start a few days after purchasing it. Always get promises in writing if it is important to you as a customer to have the promises kept. I wasn't too concerned because the small batteries aren't that expensive and for the price it was a good deal. It would have been better if they had said we can't sell it at that price with a new battery and ask if I would cover the new battery cost. That would have created a better impression than to promise what they didn't deliver. I would have been happier paying $50 more knowing the bike will run without having to troubleshoot issues with batteries. On second visit, battery was charged and I test rode the bike. Seemed OK so I bought it. Bike seemed to be in excellent mechanical condition with low miles. It was rare to find an old bike in that good a condition. After I got it home, I rode it the next day. Third day it wouldn't start. Battery was down to 10 volts. Charged it and it started a few times before battery wouldn't start without another charge. This created unnecessary worry which is not good for repeat business. I checked out the bike as best I could with a voltmeter and it seemed to be charging the battery OK so I bought a new battery ($47) and a trickle charger because I expect to ride it sparingly this winter. For the price, I believe I got a very good deal. I would have given them 5 stars if it hadn't been for forgetting to replace the battery. That's probably why they wrote "as is" on the bill of sale. If I hadn't been so sure the bike was mechanically sound, I would have refused to buy it. I bought it because it is unlikely that I'd ever find as good a deal anywhere else. So, they do sell old bikes in very good condition. It's a tough industry to make a buck in so I hope they do put more emphasis in the future on building up their business integrity. Overall, despite the battery difficulty, I'm very happy with the bike and got my money's worth. On the final mile home I hit some icy patches. Out of habit I pulled in the clutch when the roughness of the pavement was suddenly smooth. Ice! I coasted past the ice to bare road and cranked up the power. Nice! Riding a motorcycle is like riding a bicycle. The skills come back very quickly. Once a motorcyclist, I suppose we're always a motorcyclist. ‍ read more

Great service and knowledge. I dropped a bike off after 4 pm, was finished by six. I didn't think they could finish it that day. I has old unused synthetic oil, was for an old bike I didn't have anymore. They saved me big! They knew it was the wrong oil. Drive shaft fully serviced, coolant and brake pads all done perfectly. I didn't realize front tire pressure was low. Phil the owner could tell it was low just by wheeling up to the motorcycle work bench. I couldn't tell. Awesome shop! read more

My cousin was worried his bike would be on hiatus for awhile so he and I went to The old motorcycle shop needing some major work done on his bike before the Canada Day long weekend. Seeing as we were in a hurry to get on the road, the owner, Phil, ensured us he would do his best to get my cousin's bike into the shop and running tip top. What I really appreciated is that the people at this shop were truly genuine and cared about the quality of what they were doing. A few hours later, to our surprise, we were on the road the same day we put my cousin's bike in and it literally saved our weekend. My cousin was real glad to have found a motorcycle shop that was as efficient as this one. And my long weekend was filled with riding in the back of my cousin's bike, lots of sun, and one too many beers, who's to complain? I was looking for parts for an older Honda bike that are no longer available and I brought the old parts into the shop. Even though they couldn't get those parts from a supplier (No one can anymore) they worked with me to help me try and find a solution to put the bike back into working condition. I hadn't even bought anything from them and yet they gave me their friendly time and service to solve my problem. I took in a tire and needed to have the spokes adjusted and tightened but I told them I would not be happy if they charged me two hours of labor for that at $260 they told me it'll take one possibly two hours and I get back and they charge me the full two hours and $12 for shop materials of some kind which would probably have been a little bit of WD-40 spray I was extremely unhappy with the way they charged me after they told me they would not rip me off but they did exactly that. read more

Am buying an old Japanese bike this week from a friend but seeing this place maybe I could spare myself the hassle of restoration by buying an already restored one..... Price wise the bikes seem to be highish but reasonable retail type prices- nice big selection- even some old bsa's there. SO here I am- bank card in the pocket- impulse buy- ready to pull trigger and I have to deal with this snotty auzzie sales peon that cannot give time of day. My budget is on the above build is $5,550 for an old 450 very high retail for what I am after and what was in the showroom- but this jerk cannot help me at or sell me at all. Cannot even spend time with me to get a deposit which I would have put down if he could find- didn't ask what other models had in mind as there were alternatives in mind and on the the floor. Don't know the rep of this place but never coming here again and restoring wise will take business elsewhere. It's a shame the owner has bad people representing him as I am the demographic they want. Avoid the salesperson and maybe deal direct with the owner as you are not going to get a good experience with the guy above. IF that guy was the owner then avoid the shop entirely. read more

To celebrate 20 years owning my vintage '83 street bike I brought it in to Old motorcycle shop with pretty much an open ended request for full diagnostic (beyond the needed rear wheel and exhaust pipe replacement). Not only did I get the motorbike back sooner it was well under estimated cost which means they only serviced what was necessary. Went to check and visit a month ago for a bike being advertised in their website. It was a cool place to see for older bikes. I spoke to Brendan who is probably the shop manager and we discussed about the bike. I asked a lot of questions about the bike, but because the bike is owned by the owner of the shop and it's being sold separately and not part of the shop inventory, he have to check with him first regarding the questions I've asked, I gave him my details to contact me. A week had past I went back since I didn't received a response. So I told him about the bike again he said the owner is just busy. At that time I asked him if I can get his number so I can contact him directly, he said he will ask him and get back to me. Another week had past and sent him again an email asking for any developments? He said again, the owner is busy. Sent him an email, and again owner is busy. It's almost 3 1/2 weeks and 3 days after my last inquiry he then sent me an email at 1023am after a month of asking providing me the number of his boss. Obviously I am at work and only read my personal email around 4pm. I called the owner and he told me someone put the deposit today!!! Seriously??? I made so much effort to reach him when his always busy and not even a call I received at least tell me that I need to put a deposit and it's yours! - nothing! I am appalled. WOW So I spoke to Brendan, so many excuses is now all over the place in fact it sounded I am bring blamed at one point!, because I didn't put deposit that's why it was given to the person? I wasn't even given that chance, and NO you didn't asked for it because remember the owner Mike is so busy? In the end he admitted about the mishap but still adamant that what they did was appropriate. Sorry, your shop is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, Management needs more training on Customer Service, feedback and follow ups. Therefore I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone. I thought smaller shops will have more extra personal or professional touch to compete with bigger dealerships. I guess not, particularly this shop. read more

The Old Motorcycle Shop has treated me extremely fair, Phil will chirp you a bit but that's the British sense of humour. The mechanics in the back have been phenomenal with old bikes that haven't been running in years. They are quick and do quality work. Couldn't be happier. A few pointers, make sure you tell them your budget and what your planning on doing, and get everything in writing. That will ensure you get all the work done you require and not be surprised when you show up. It will help out both sides. Great place for old barn finds and I will continue to be a customer. I took carbs from an extremely rare 1986 GSXR 750 LImited Edition with 6.7 original kilometers on it to this shop for refreshing/restoration. They said it would take 3 days. 2 months and 7 visits later I received my carbs back with pieces missing!!!! Upon inspection of the carbs, one float bowl is hanging loose by the screws! The carbs are dirtier looking than when I brought them in. The top caps that were supposed to be "powder coated" were cheaply painted. The choke would take Arnold Schwartzenegger to pull and is out of alignent. WTF!? Phil told me "The guy that worked on your carbs is no longer here, not sure where the parts are". "The work is only as good as my staff". "I shouldn't have taken your job on anyways, it was a pain in the ass". I have been restoring cars and riding motorcycles for over 30 years. I have very rare vehicles and know good and bad work when I see it. My experience has demonstrated thst this shop is unprofessional and unreliable. My carbs were returned to me in a condition that could risk my life, had I installed and tried to ride with them. Shame on this shop. read more

I went for an out of province inspection and I brought my bike to the wrong place. Phil, the owner took far longer than he said he would take to begin with. The price was $229. He wanted to do thousands of dollars in repairs but wasnt willing to actually give me a quote for the work he wanted done. I have been riding the bike safely all summer. I bought the bike from a mechanic who I trust and is an former racer. The bike is safer than any bike I've ever owned. He even had a problem with the stock tail light which didnt light up the license plate.... he also told me "he is on my side" numerous times. They charged me 65 dollars to "check" the air filter..not do anything with it just check it..600 dollars for for wheel bearings on 2004 Honda seems excessive but if your traveling on the other side of the country what are you going to do.. read more

In 37 years of riding and dealing with bike shops, this place is the absolute WORST shop I have ever dealt with. STAY AWAY!

Took my 1985 Harley Davidson in to the Old Motorcycle Shop in Calgary for a gear ratio issue. Had a very knowledgeable mechanic that owns a 1986 Harley give me the option of returning the gear to stock - too bad he didn't work on the bike. After many charged hours of many mistakes and improper aftermarket parts (machined to fit because they were wrong right out of the box), the bike is a little better...no where near the ride I was told it would be. A few thousand dollars and rude phone calls later ( from the owner), I now have my bike back with little change in the ride from when I took it in to them. Maybe they should stick with what they are good at - obviously not Harleys. I did notice a lot of Vespas in the store...hopefully they run better than my bike does. In the future, I'd have a hard time riding my bike past the Old Motorcycle Shop, and I certainly wouldn't punish my bike by putting it back inside and allowing them to butcher it any further. Wen't in today to buy a used , not- running moped from them. They had it advertised for $499, which already is too much for that model. I come in, it looks decent, worse Than the pictures for sure though. I asked how they got it, and the took it as partial trade for another bike, and I was told they paid too much for it. At this point the guy I was talking to was nice, very enthusiastic. I tell him I am interested, and started my offer out at $350. The guy next to him, who was dealing with another customer at the time, interrupts our conversation, and rudely says to me that my offer was insulting, and that they had more than $500 into it already and that that was a fair price. I don't think they have basic understanding of how to sell a used vehicle. If there bottom line was $500, ask $700. After that I told him that I don't care how much they paid, as their shoddy business sense shouldn't affect their customer. Stay far away, they make you feel as if you've wronged them by making a sensible first offer, and then belittle you with insults. WORST buying experience i have ever had. read more
