I hope this guy gets taken care of and paid well because he deserves it! The trail for this tour is very lush and beautiful. When you gain a little elevation the skyline is beautiful. It was a peaceful ride and pleasant conversation with Dario! Highly recommend! Not sure what pricing is because my husband surprised me for my bday. Overall great experience!

Our tour guide and horse caretaker was a fellow named Dario and he was very friendly informative and professional. I sure hope they take care of this kid because I can tell he's a hard worker. He was probably the best part of our ride very friendly and I loved the way he cared for the horses. The trail was so so, not much of any type of back country we went through some property and then up a dirt road which turned around in a parking lot. There wasn't any steering from a walking pace which honestly was a little slow for me. I enjoyed my ride but probably won't return. If you ask me the ranch should do more for their workers.

I came to Unbridled Spirit originally, because they offer learning on many different types of horses and I love "gaited" horses, which are seldom offered for lessons. With Stephanie McGlothlin as my instructor, I actually learned not just to be a more confident and competent rider, but how to actually "build a relationship" with my horse! What an incredible joy it is to build that bond! The confidence and skills that I have gained in a short time have taken place through lessons, but also, through the targeted clinics and workshops that focus on certain skills and approaches, such as "Liberty." I cannot recommend Stephanie and Unbridled Spirit more highly!

She takes time to explain everything even if you didn't understand the first or second time. Her passion for horseback riding is contagious. She offers tools to learn and implement when working with your horse rather than bandaids for crazy horse behavior. Her horses are patient and kind and I can't wait to bring back my whole family. I could keep going but don't take it from me. Go and see for yourself what you are lacking in your horse connection! You'll be glad you did.

The person we are taking lessons from, Shaina with her company Healing Through Broken Strides has been amazing. I realize she boards there and it is not her property, however, the property is very well maintained. I have never seen a broken board or anything out of line. By all appearances all the horses are very well fed and taken care of. None seem to be lacking for anything. There is a variety of horses I have seen here from Arabians to Gypsys, Quarter horses to Paints and Clydesdale. Chris the owner has given tours when I have been around and she is very thorough. She explains all the availability that is on her property, over 200 acres of trails as well for comfortable riding time with your horse. I love that as I usually drive my vehicle in I get greeted by a couple of the older horses who are there living out their best life...they are each over 25 from my understanding. Also to note, there in pens they have goats, every so often I have seen young cows, and I love going and chatting with the the donkeys. It is an amazing place! To note, I also see the hay rings always full, and I see every time I have been there feeding time where the boarding horses are being fed the feed they are prescribed. There is a riding area and 2 round pens and a porta-potty available as well. I reiterate this because of another review states that they didn't have hay, and this is absolutely never ever been the case!

We were ending a two week trip around the…read moreregion and all our six year old son wanted to do on this trip was "ride a horse like a cowboy!" We were striking out everywhere we called either due to the heavy rains leading up to our arrival or just lack of availability. I found Gypsy Farms on Yelp, read the one outstanding review and took a chance. Sara emailed me back the same day and despite the short notice, she fit us in our last night in San Antonio and was extremely responsive in our email exchange. And what an awesome experience for our son! She spent a full hour one-on-one with him - teaching him how to brush, bridle and saddle the horse; then getting him into the ring to ride for a solid 25 minutes learning how to control the horse's movements. She even got him comfortable enough to go off the lead and control the horse on his own and to walk the horse through the obstacle course. All in all, we were absolutely thrilled! Sara was not only extremely professional, but super friendly and interested in helping our son enjoy his first real horse riding experience. Plus, it's clear that her horses are well loved and cared for. And she's even rescued 12 horses since living in Texas the last 4 years. Needless to say, he's hooked now! Thanks again, Sara!!

Now that it's almost Summer 2022 - yay! - and there are lots of changes this season in WORD-leased…read moreparks, it's time for an update to my review from last year. Please check out that comprehensive narrative if you want to learn about what "WORD" is and why the rules and fees here are different from other parts of Canyon Lake, which is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Before you head to this park on the North side of Canyon Lake near Brookshire Brothers off 306, be sure to check social media (the "book of face") to see what WORD's latest updates are. That is where they will post any notices about the park being full, maintenance closures, or changes in policy. Make sure you sort Posts by Most Recent. https://www.facebook.com/Canyon-Park-on-Canyon-Lake-112315650954797 The biggest change for 2022 (April 1 - September 30 operating days) is a pricing increase for anyone without a vehicle registered in Comal County. If you are visiting from out of town, you will now pay $20 per carload. Locals driving their Comal County-registered vehicle (per the windshield sticker as proof) get in for $5 per carload. Gates will close when the park reaches capacity and no one is admitted after the gatehouse closes for the day at 6p. Gatehouse Hours (for Swim Beaches): Mon - Fri: 10a - 6p Sat, Sun, & Holidays: 8a - 6p Swim Beach Hours: Mon - Fri: 10a - 7:30p Sat, Sun, & Holidays: 8a - 7:30p Another major change this year is that the Madrone Trail parking area (for the free hiking, mountain biking, and trail running trail system) is closed every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This means you cannot access this trail system without paying to enter the park on the weekends, and you will be subject to park closure at capacity. For 2022, the boat ramp and day-use picnic sites at the tip of the peninsula (Park Areas 2, 3, & 4) have the same locals $5/non-locals $20 pricing structure, but you can get in as early as 8a (and should because these fill up fast each day in the summer). You must exit these areas by 7:30p, so plan accordingly to get your boat out in time at the end of the day or be banned. The WORD gatehouse staff do not mess around. You can walk to the water, but it doesn't really look like it's good for swimming. This is a fishing lake. There are shells and broken glass here.
