Old falls street has so much to discover. You're minutes from the seneca casino , the falls and walking distance to fabulous restaurants like rain forest Cafe, hard rock cafe and tgif's.They are beautifully decorated for the holidays and seasons .The summer is most fun with the human chess game, ping pong and out door concerts .There are also stunning Murals to look at,its just a fun experience.

Sound Of Harmony - Setup at Kurtz

    Sound Of Harmony

    (4 reviews)

The short review: We 100% recommend Sound of Harmony!!! They did a phenomenal job!…read more The long review: From the very beginning, they made the whole process very easy for us - not only the DJ and music selection elements, but the entire wedding. We had an initial walk-through with Shane (owner/manager), Steve (MC) and Ross (DJ), who asked us a few questions so they could better understand us and make recommendations for our wedding - e.g. what kind of music we like, how did I my wife and I meet, how would we describe each other, etc... This walkthrough was very helpful as we had no idea what we were doing and gave us a good idea of what to expect and what we needed to prepare in the coming months. To add another layer of difficulty, we were trying to coordinate a wedding in Niagara on the Lake, ON, while living in Boston, Massachusetts. They checked-in with us from time to time with more elements to consider and to discuss the details of the timeline for our wedding. As we got closer to the event date, we had a few Skype sessions with Steve, our MC. We provided him with some very ambiguous and open-ended information about our bridesmaids, groomsmen and parents that he was able to, somehow, turn into beautiful introductions for each person before they gave their speeches. Steve not only went above and beyond prior to the event to make us feel comfortable with how things were going to go, but during the event as well - introducing his great sense of humor throughout without overpowering the event. Steve was so beloved, in fact, that at the end of the event much of the wedding party asked to have them join them for drinks while they continued the celebrations that night. Ross was the DJ during the event. As a half "American", half Ukrainian wedding, we threw a very complicated set at him. We gave him songs that were in another language with varying styles that he needed to balance with a mix of traditional jazz and 90s pop music. He was able to pull this off without a hitch and read the crowd very well. Ross was great about taking requests from the guests. We had a diverse group of people - with equally diverse tastes - whose requests he was able to satisfy and blend into the overall style/feel we wanted for the evening. We also had Sound of Harmony provide blue uplights - which we highly recommend as well. It added a nice feel around the room where we felt something would have been missing otherwise. It's a small addition, but makes a big impact. We couldn't have asked for a better team to DJ our event. Working with them was by far the easiest part of wedding planning. The day of the wedding we still had a lot of things to keep in mind and take care of but the DJ and the MC were not one of them. We are truly thankful for all their hard work! They absolutely nailed it!

It truly is indicative of the civilized country that Canada is and how the Canadians cherish flowers, gardens and outdoor beauty. According to www.niagarafalls.com, "Opened in 1937, the designers of Oakes Garden Theatre capitalized on the contours of the landscape to create a curved pergola overlooking a central amphitheatre. The shaded lily ponds and formalized gardens offer visitors a tranquil escape in the heart of Niagara Falls. Bordered by ornamental iron gates and Queenston limestone, Oakes Garden Theatre provides a spectacular entranceway to Queen Victoria Park at the foot of Clifton Hill.' I cherished Oakes Garden Thatre as a place for a brief respite after trudging up the hill from taking the Hornblower Cruise to Niagara Falls. I saw an open gate and stuck my head in to see if there was a shortcut here to the Sheraton. Instead, I was transfixed by a beautiful landscape. Some guys in a rock band were beginning to set up their gear at the amphitheater stage and there were plenty of children and families about. Seeing some such a gorgeous landscape with benches, seats and plenty of lovely flowers was enough to beckon me in. Later on at the Sheraton, I was happy to note that my hotel room overlooked Oakes Garden and I was able to enjoy some of the rock concert going on at the amphitheater that night. Then the Niagara Falls fireworks show started at 10 p.m. and Oakes is a great place to watch that too. Entry is free all year round. During summer, the place is a hub of activity. The winter months are peacefully quiet with snow covering the area. In winter, there is a lights show at the falls along Niagara Parkway. At this time, the Oakes Garden Theatre also puts up animated light displays along the garden. For those looking to escape the tourist madness of Niagara Falls, this little haven is your answer. It truly is a hidden gem in the Niagara Falls area.

Turns out the place we were booked in became residence to fire victims hundreds of miles away, so our reservation was cancelled. We went to dinner and while the family ate, I was calling and trying to book a room in Canada, with no luck. Many other hotels were also housing fire victims and so we were a handful of tourists displaced. Luckily, this Doubletree had availability at a decent last minute rate. It was still more than what we were paying for a two bedroom unit across the border in Canada, but at that point we were very exhausted from a days travel and couldn't wait to settle down and relax. It had been awhile since last staying at a Doubletree, so what came to mind when we checked in? Cookies! Got one for each of us and happily went to bed the first night. All rooms were pretty spacious and comfortable. Hotel was walking distance to Niagara State Park but we still ended up driving for convenience. We actually crossed the border everyday to hit the itinerary we laid out beforehand and it was better since there weren't many restaurant options on the US side.

So it's basically a gothic theater, meaning that it's both a grand antique and a squalid dive. The choice of Labatt or Labatt Light in a can as your beers, although kind of a funny joke, is not actually acceptable as a menu, especially if you're going to charge $8 for said can. There were only about five bottles of booze for cocktails. It's cash only, which is fine, but kind of a pain for 2023. I went to see Goblin, a cool Italian art-rock act that was playing the soundtrack to the Argento classic Demons and then another mixed set after the movie. They sold "reserve" tickets to the upstairs balcony, but the numbers on the tables in no way corresponded to the table numbers on the tickets and it was generally pretty confusing. The lack of lighting on the floor and the very low stairs make the entire upstairs an ADA nightmare and a tripping hazzard for everybody. There is no food of any kind, which I'm pretty sure is illegal in NY for a venue that sells alcohol. The stripped-down-ness would be a bit more paltable had we not paid $50 a ticket for the cheap seats that have an obstructed view of the screen. A few more frills might be expected at that price. We managed to move down to the floor because the place was only about half-sold and security seemed not to notice or care much. All that said, the movie viewing/Goblin show was a good time and the space is pretty amazing, so they're doing some things right. They also seem to be violating the law several ways and throwing customer safety to the wind. It's basically a college dive bar operating as a concert venue. It's like walking onto a set of Goodfellas so I knew right away that I wasn't going to be disappointed. Danielle, our server, is the granddaughter of the original owners. I believe her brother is the chef and they continue their grandparents legacy to this day. We ordered a caprese salad to start. Gnocchi with meatballs and Eggplant parm were the entrees both served with a simple (what I call Sunday) sauce. The food was impeccable!!! What I loved is that it was clean and fresh tasting. The eggplant was not overly breaded and fried - it was stacked like layers of lasagna. The gnocchi were perfect little potato pillows! Bravo to the family!! Your grandparents would be so proud!
