The Old Crown is a surprisingly busy village pub with a large dining area and a reasonable range of wines and beers.
Starters cost £4-6 and include mushroom and chicken & chorizo risottos; sautéed lamb kidneys; Cornish smoked mackerel: we had prawn & chorizo salad, chicken satay and grilled goats cheese with walnuts. Mains cost £8-15 and include deep fried sole; local pork sausages; smoked salmon and haddock fishcakes; rump steak: we had twice cooked Pig's cheeks; a trio of lamb dishes including cottage pie; a pork dish with fennel; salmon and Tagliatelle. Deserts cost £4-6 and include sticky toffee pudding; bread and butter pudding; a crumble; and Banoffee pie.
All of the dishes were well cooked and well presented, although the service was very slow: this might have been because it was St George's day and the restaurant appeared to be full.
There is a good sized car park, and the staff were friendly.
Slow service, but good value and nice food, recommended. read more
