There was no prep work before painting--no taping or masking--and he sprayed over everything, including doorknobs, hinges, mirrors, and light fixtures. It looked careless. I paid him $2,700 in labor, plus an additional $1,367 in materials (total of $4,067), and the issues only became more obvious--missed paint areas, rushed flooring, and overall poor quality. I had the former owner inspect the property, and she pointed out damaged subflooring that he installed new flooring over without ever mentioning it. When confronted, he became irate and used inappropriate language toward her. When I spoke with him, he refused to take accountability and was more focused on getting paid. He even told me "you get what you pay for," which was never communicated upfront--he had already agreed to do the job within my budget. When I told him I expected the work to be corrected, he became hostile, so I ended the call. He never followed up or came back to fix anything. I ultimately had to hire another contractor to fix his work, which cost me even more money. If I had known he was only focused on getting paid and not on doing quality work, I would have never hired him in the first place. Very unprofessional, poor workmanship, and no accountability. I would not recommend. The following is my response to his response. This response is inaccurate and misrepresents what actually happened. At no point did I receive "free work." All payments were made in good faith as the project progressed, totaling $2,700 in labor and $1,367 in materials. The issue was never about avoiding payment--it was about the quality of the work and the lack of communication regarding major problems. The painting was done without any prep work--no masking or taping--resulting in paint being sprayed onto fixtures, hardware, and surfaces that should not have been painted. This is clearly visible in the photos, which show the actual quality of the work. Additionally, flooring was installed over damaged subflooring without it ever being brought to my attention, which is a significant issue that had to be corrected later at my expense. While you mention replacing lights and adding cabinet doors, those items do not excuse or offset the overall poor workmanship and rushed job. The concern was never small touch-ups--it was the overall quality and the fact that corners were consistently cut. When these concerns were raised, the response was hostile and unproductive rather than professional. I gave an opportunity to correct the issues, but no effort was made to return and fix the work. I ultimately had to hire another contractor to repair and redo portions of the job, which confirms the concerns raised were legitimate. Calling me a "conman" is inappropriate and unfounded. I hired the burge family as they quoted me fast and seemed like an honorable family business. First…read moreit took them 3 weeks to remove post and and get the materials delivered, which was not fully removed I found some cut pipes on the ground. Then they did not install one of the gates I had asked to put on one of the sides, and said that it was not on the quote, but the quote went from 4500-6500 to 14,000. That's almost a double fold. And finally I had asked for all post to be protected with Tar, which only cost $300 for materials but that was the only thing that was added and it increased double fold. Finally, after going through the fence when completed. There were holes were some of the old fence was that I had to cover with dirt. Some post and wood were not cut even and missing over 50+ screws that I bought and put on myself. The bottom was not even and apparently not understood when I said I wanted 6 foot total above ground with an extra foot on bottom. It was only done in half of the fence. The 8 foot side of the fence was done right and the gates were also done right. From far away the fence looks great and stable, but without me fixing all of these missing stuff it was far from a 5 star. I would recommend for small projects, but not for something real nice cause. Then the other half of the time they took a lot was just them sitting on the backyard my guess those were billable hours. Lol Then I called and they said they gave me a discount. And that they didn't charge me for missing door. Also they charge me extra for removing those post cause they didn't have the right Tools so they had to get new tools. I also had cement I gave them about 15 bags
