ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!!! First time visiting Ste. Genevieve and the Old Brick House did not disappoint!! We had the Hawaiian chicken Sandwich with a Mango Habanero sauce, pineapple & pepper jack cheese--phenomenal! The Crawfish etouffee served on a baked potato was a hearty serving with nice kick & plenty of crawfish meat! The bowl was empty yet our stomach fully satisfied! The Supreme Club was stacked with generous portions of Ham , Turkey and Bacon - a wonderfully reliable go to meal. The Chicken Wrap served with hand carved chicken breast filled with fresh tomatoes & lettuce and house made Buttermilk Ranch dressing for dipping. No fatty pieces and generous portions of chicken! The owners were friendly & attentive with a genuine interest in what we were craving and how they could accommodate our lunch time appetite! The parking was easy , it's a small town and there are great sites and small local businesses all around. The food was great they offer a small buffet with quality food. Service was great. We talked to locals who regular the establishment and offered history and recommendations for the food here and other local businesses. Apparently above the dinning room is a Masonic room which is one of the oldest around. read more

We had dinner there tonight. We ate what was on the smorgasbord. It was probably one of the worst meals I have ever had. If you like fried chicken with soggy breading and fish not cooked thoroughly this is the place for you. Nothing on the smorgasbord went together to make a meal. No dessert of any kind was offered on the smorgasbord. Very disappointed. I will never be back again. Our waitress was very nice though. read more

Today i came here because my wife was out of town and I wanted some good southern cooking. I had the buffet and they had an excellent choice of fried chicken, roast beef, corn, and all the fixings! I love the mashed potatoes with choice of brown gravy or the juice from the roast beef which I chose!! I'm glad they're is still homemade style cooking like this! The service was great as well! A historic find located in a small town. We met family at this location over the holidays for a quick bite. They have a modest but tasty buffet(according to the kids). Some folks ordered from the menu, sandwiches, etc. Everything was good, freshly prepared and there were no complaints. The service was fine and staff were very friendly. The place was very festive and inviting. The buffet was not good. The food on it was incredibly old. The mashed potatoes were all dried up, and the dumplings were half in the water and half out, so it was crunchy to eat. The chicken would have been good had it had any flavor at all. My son and I had lunch there about 2pm. We had a salad and chicken, it was so flavorless we only had the salad. They asked how many plates we had each, which we had only 1. We were then charged 15 dollars each. That is very expensive for flavorless food. The waitresses sat at a table doing nothing & so close we could hear them gossiping. We did not leave a tip! This place is advertise as the "first brick house west of the Mississippi" and I'm not sure how true that claim is, at least it let people inside. I went there in mid-afternoon before dinnertime and ordered off the menu. Had fried shrimp which came with choice of potato (had fries) and salad bar. Didn't want to get buffet as it didn't look appealing at all. Salad bar was okay but not enough stuff on it. The entree was good. Waitress was friendly and gave great service. read more

Interesting place, I guess most of the appeal is the age of the building (235 as of writing) but the fried mushrooms are some of the best I've ever had, and the fries are decent. Zero vegetarian or vegan main dish options other than grilled cheese though which is really disappointing. read more

Stopped in here on a Sunday for a lunch buffet. It wasn't a huge selection, and nothing was really great. But that said, what they had out was pretty good. Filled our bellies, reasonably priced, and the service was good. I think if I came back here, I'd want to order off the menu maybe? Ehhhh. If my grandparents were still alive, I think they'd give it five stars. Everything about this place harkens back to a different era, including the offerings at the lunch buffet and most of the clientele. Fried chicken, pork chops, liver dumplings, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, green beans, canned corn, yeast rolls, pats of margarine wrapped in paper, etc. Fried chicken was good, liver dumplings were an interesting treat, and the rest of it was unremarkable country fare. Staff is friendly, but if there are big groups getting served next to you (hey Seniors Club!), it's hard to get refills. read more

We were in town for a visit this past weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Our experience was awful. We got to the restaurant 30 min after they opened. I ordered the "Saturday special" only to be told 20 min after I ordered they had run out of the menu item they advertise as the special. I had to choose another item which was sub par at best. Our waitress had 2 big tables and acted like she didn't have time to be bothered with us a party of only 2 and barely gave us the time of day. My husband did enjoy the prime rib, but if we are in town again we will not be back. read more

While the buffet is small and somewhat predictable ( I've visited several times from out of town ) it has been very good .. Friday is compliant with catholic tradition .. it is well worth the price 11.00 ? Kfc meal is not far from this price .. old bricks chicken and roast beef are excellent.. and the liver spatziel/ dumplings.. are regional to this area of the United States .. it is well worth the money .. highly recommend.. very much like being invited to someone's home for Sunday dinner!! read more

We made a reservation a week in advance for my father in laws birthday for 35-40 people. Someone from The Old Brick called at 5:00 pm asking if we were still going. We said that we were and we're assured that they had plenty of food. When we got there the buffet was completely empty! We asked about what was going on and they said that we'd just have to wait, they were cooking it. The wait staff was really working hard but whoever we dealt with down there wasn't very professional and acted like we just stormed in on them without notice, which is NOT true. The food was mediocre at best. It is safe to say that we will NOT be going back there or referring anyone else. This place USED TO BE a great place to go but has really gone to pot. read more

Good parking, good food, descent prices, clean bathrooms, but the waitresses (2) were running their tales off. They have to take your order, deliver your drinks and food, provide refills, and check you out with their cash and calculator. Where they don't appear to have a cash register or a check out person. So you can spend a little time waiting to leave. The line to leave is at the same small place as the buffet. It does stay crowded there, the accommodations were nice at the tables. But they just need to work on organization, maybe a hostess to check people out. read more

Skip this place if you want something that you actually want to order. My first attempt was to order a medium rare burger. They only serve well-done burgers. In my 43 years of eating at restaurants, that makes the first time I've been told I could only order my burger well-done. Next attempt was the roast beef. Waitress came back (very apologetic... our waitress was very sweet) and said that they were out of roast beef. Gave up and ordered the buffet... which looked exceeding pathetic when we walked past it. We'll see how it is. I should note that our waitress was very nice. So service was good. read more

Me and my dad ate here twice on a recent road trip to MO. It has incredible fried chicken. We had the buffet lunch each time. Its right in the middle of an interesting looking town. We ate here in June of 1972. The food and service was outstanding. At two or three tables over from ours an obnoxious, loud drunk was shouting all sorts of vulgarities. My father called the manager over to our table and requested something be done about the drunk, who was a frequent visitor. The manager called his wife to come pick him up. We were very pleased that they handled the problem with diplomacy. We will be having lunch there tomorrow, while doing the annual GARDEN WALK. We are looking forward to a wonderful visit. read more

Pretty traditional joint. The structure was more interesting than the menu. Oldest brick structure west of the Mississippi. We had the lunch buffet. Plenty of food, all home-made which was nice. My mom loved and raved about the stewed tomatoes, but I didn't like the stuffed peppers very much. The salad was pretty standard iceberg lettuce, but the cole slaw and slided cucumbers were delicious. My brother had the chili and said it was not bad. Friendly service. I've been here twice. The first time was a couple years ago, and the second time was just this past weekend. When we first ate there, the food was just okay. The German potatoes were the best part of the meal. This past weekend, we sat down and went to order. They have a prime rib special on Saturday, so I went with that. I ordered it medium-rare, and the waitress told me they only had one left and it was well-done which means they're all pre-cooked. I'm sorry, but a prime rib takes almost no time to cook. There's no reason or excuse to have them pre-cooked like that especially at a restaurant that's as low volume as them. We ended up leaving since I did want to risk getting anything else that had been cooked earlier in the day and went down to Sirros. My husband and I were intrigued by the exterior of the building and decided to go in for dinner, while on vacation. The interior is quaint, nothing fancy. The main menu attraction is the fried chicken, which looked and smelled super but I don't partake in breaded, deep fried, high carb, or starchy foods. Unfortunately that left me with the fairly sparse salad bar and cold, formerly frozen mixed vegetables. I tried some baked fish but it was overdone and extremely salty.
