What a place! I wandered into Ol Stuga while walking around downtown Lindsborg. I was in search of a little drink before I had to meet up with some people. I wouldn't call Ol Stuga a dive bar, but I also wouldn't not call it a dive bar. It's definitely not fancy or trendy. This is not the place to get a glass of wine. (I'm not entirely sure they even have any wine.) They don't have any local beer on tap. But that's not Ol Stuga's fault -- Kansas isn't really a craft beer state, I've learned. Bud Lite and domestics are what you'll find here, mostly. One of the first things you'll notice when you walk into Ol Stuga is all of the money on the ceiling. I sat at the bar, next to a guy who seemed like a regular. I asked the guy why there were so many dollar bills stuck to the ceiling of the bar. He told me, and unfortunately for you, I don't remember what he said because there was alcohol involved. If you want to know why there is money on the ceiling of Ol Stuga, you'll just have to visit and find out for yourself. They have a few things on tap here, and I got a fruity beer from Missouri. I wanted something "local," and Missouri was the most local place that Ol Stuga had on tap. The beer was really good -- light and refreshing. Later, I told some locals that I had visited Ol Stuga, and they high-fived me and asked, "Did they treat you OK?" I was like, "Um, yeah? Why?" And they said that sometimes fights break out every once in a while. I didn't see any fights while I was there, unfortunately, but everyone at OS was great and I had a great time. read more

I attended college in Lindsborg and recently took my soon to be child to visit the college. We stopped off at the Ol Stugga and grabbed a sandwich. Order a Brent Nelson sandwich you will not regret it. read more

Myself and one other went to old too good to have a hamburger with french fries the waiter was very nice very on time with everything even though they were busy we felt like we were taking care of. Well. The hamburger was very good. The french fries was very good. I enjoyed my experience and will go back again. So if you want a good hamburger and french fries eat at old studio. read more

We picked the wrong day to come in for lunch. The place was packed. We waited over an hour for our food. The burger was ok, was a little disappointed as I heard it was super good. They only had three people working so they need a help wanted sign. They might want to invest in some new tables, chairs and booths, they are very worn and loved. read more

A friend tipped me off to the "Trust Me" sandwich. It's not on the menu and I'm not 100% sure what was on it, or if it's the same thing every time you order it, but it was amazing! I believe mine had corned beef, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos, etc The cook confirmed that I liked spicy food before he started making mine. The only thing holding me back from rating this five stars is that the bar was smokey from the kitchen, but I would absolutely come back here again if I make my way back to Lindsburg, KS "Little Sweden." read more

Unique place in the middle of nowhere. Famous for having served Russia's Prime minister Gorbachev at one time. As soon as you enter this quaint town with cobblestone/brick road you immediately loose cell service. They have a unique sandwich (ask about its history) which is actually quite delicious and filling. If your up to it, you can also get some Sardines! Been there a few times when diving though the area. You have to try it at least once! read more

This was a cool little place I came across. I was driving across Kansas and made a detour to see this small Swedish town. After walking up and down its main street I convinced myself to just check out the local watering hole. The place was empty but can get crowded evenings from what I was told by the bartender/owner lady. I had a couple drinks as more people filtered on in. They have a very old feel to them in this bar and there are lots of cool trinkets adorned on the walls. Great local bar. Happy to support local! read more

Little town dive bar was an entertaining place for lunch, but the menu is kind of basic. The vegetarian in our group ended up with just a cheese and veggie sub that she was able to build herself; the Brent Nelson (Sausage, BBQ sauce, smoky sharp cheese, hot pepper cheese, onions. Served on a submarine bun) sandwich is what they are known for, good if not a bit messy, but I actually preferred the American Submarine (Ham, roast beef and American cheese with mayo, lettuce and onion on a submarine bun. Served hot or cold). Prices can't be beat at under $6 for a sandwich and chips. The place is quite dark, and a bit dingy, but I can see it being a great community hangout! read more

Best bar in town! Full of charm and history. Try the Gorbatini and jukebox filled with thousands of on-line songs. TV showed an constant stream of thrilling horse races from the recent and distant past. Very entertaining! Bathroom doors did not have locks, but guests were polite and apologized after intruding. Love the Stuga. Have been eating & enjoying for 44 years. Mark Lysell owned & operated the bar/restaurant until December 1, 2021. The new owner had been a former staff member of the Stuga. We ate at the Stuga November 31-Mark's last day of ownership and then ate on December 1. First day of new owners. Both sandwiches were outstanding! My favorite sandwich is kinda like a Ruben, but different. I like dark rye, horseradish, hot pepper cheese with the traditional meat & sauerkraut . Skip the Russian dressing! Ohhh-so good. For a dive bar this place has some pretty good food. The Brent Nelson sandwich I was told is the local favorite, naturally I had to try it and I was not let down! If you live in Lindsborg, this is the place you go to have a drink. The Ol Stuga is a the one and only bar that has remained over the years. Others will open and close but do not stand the test of time like the "Stuga" It is your typical small town bar, where everyone knows your name. A small outdoor patio and a couple pool tables, dart boards in the back. If you are in Lindsborg for Hyllingsfest, as a tourist for "little sweden, USA., or some other random reason. You have to get a brent nelson special when you are here! It was featured on the best college eats on good morning america! Mikhail Gorbachev has been here, so be sure to ask for a Gorbatini (made with Swedish vodka instead of Russian, but hey, this is little Sweden!) I am a little biased.... I was told that the sandwiches here were incredible, and although mine tasted good, it failed to wow me even a little bit. I guess my expectations were just too high. Cool little bar in the gem of the little town Lindsborg hidden away on the banks of the Smokey Hill river. I really liked the fast, friendly service and I would say it's a good place to bring some friends to grab a few drinks but maybe hold off on the food and grab a slice of pizza from the amazing Brick House Grill instead if you are in town and get hungry! read more

ol stuga translates, in swedish, Ale cottage. It is just that! a Nice, cozy place to have a drink with friends. Very friendly staff and good looking owner! Sandwiches aren't gourmet, but are exactly how you would make them at home if you had the ingredients. For decades the stuga has been the mini kingdom of my button hole cousin Mark Lysell. Essentially, the stuga and mark are one. A towering hulk of a man, mark is truly a pillar of the community. He has been on the sideline chain gang for the Bethany college football team, the Swedes, for 40 years. The annual ol stuga golf tournament is invitation only, and is a benefit for local causes. Mark and his adorable daughters organize the entire event with the help of loyal volunteers. Every year invitations are sent to celebrities, sports legends and other famous people. The best of the "sorry, I'm flattered, but not coming" letters are framed and proudly displayed around the stuga. The decor is full on weapons grade kitsch, beer logo schwag, sports memorabilia, bronco paraphernalia, Kansas lotto advertising and loads of pictures of the stuga "family".  Surprisingly, the food is very good, limited menu, but the " kitchen " is literally just 80 square feet. Mark buys most of the days supplies daily at the local market, and makes your sandwich to order. If you are there for the lunch "rush" you'll probably be introduced to local patrons who have been coming to Mark's sandwich bar for decades.  Treat yourself to a day of main street America that has stood the test of time, downtown Lindsborg, Kansas, America. Besides the stuga, there is an art museum, a chess institute, old fashioned barber shop and a dala horse factory. Swedish Americans order their traditional foods from Scott's market, another Lindsborg institution that has remained in spite of the big boxification of the world.  I hope you spend some quality time in the Stuga, tell Mark , Craig sent you, and enjoy the bellowing laugh that will result. read more
