First time @mcrpoke but it won't be the last either. I tried out their winter menu which was light, filling and also warming to my belly as the weather turns cold. Sous vide Salmon (£8.95) was cooked perfectly, well seasoned especially with the sesame sprinkled on top, which gives a nutty taste onto the juicy and flaky salmon. This is paired with warm beetroot, which was sweet and refreshing as I tasted a hint of either lime or lemon (something citrus) along with fresh spinanch that provided a nice crunch. The only disappointment is that I didn't get any kimchi cucumber as stated on menu. Miso soup (£4.95)- This is my go to comfort food when I feel a bit down. A nice consistency of cloudy miso soup topped with nori, tofu and spring onion to complement the soup. What I didn't realise was the pleasant suprise of udon, making this a nice, warming and filling lunch. In fact, if you are looking for a healthier and filling lunch before the over indulgence of Christmas starts, I would recommend you start here.

Certainly the only Hawaiian bar I can remember hearing of, Aloha fills the space left by Bar Fresa…read more Clearly revelling in its role as Liverpool's only Tiki bar, the place has gone all-out on the decor, presenting us with an embellished view of what we all really want island paradise to be like. Bamboo cane, grass skirts, painted murals of blue oceans and flowery lei abound in this underground Polynesia. The vibrant music and friendly staff make this a fun little spot to try in the centre of town. After pouring my precious spirits, the barman accidentally left it alone for UPWARDS OF TWENTY SECONDS! When I told him he hadn't given me my drink yet he was unbelievably apologetic and let me have it for free. Someone give that man a damn Nobel Prize. (I would like to point out to my Yelp employers and their affiliates that this does not count as me accepting a free drink in exchange for a good review as I wasn't working on here when this incident occurred and I'm not corrupt.)

Aloha....is arguably the best way of greeting in any language. It just makes you smile does it not…read more Brilliant!!! Now I am and will always be a big fan of Tiki bars. Every city should have one. They are just fantabulous, the atmosphere the music really does make you feel as if you are in Hawaii. Why is it that the bar staff at every tikki bar are just ALWAYS in a great mood!!!! It is just refreshing to see that, that energy just resonates across the venue if being projected by all members of staff. It is the laid happy go lucky. The ticks are aplenty in every box that you may have for a bar. The drinks are to suit all different tastes. Aloha is definitely worth a gander, an absolute great addition to your list this should be of all the places to go for a spot of beverage sipping.

The fish they serve here is not cod and it is not made crispy, this fish and chip shop is located…read morein Formby though so at least the sign above the door is 33.333% correct. This is probably the worst place to get fish 'n' chips 'n' Chinese in the whole of Formby, it's not terrible especially - there are just far better places out there (see how I refrained manfully from using 'plaices'). What Crispy Cod Formby does very, very well is kebabs and burgers - this might seem odd for somewhere that so prides itself on fish that it puts the name of a fish that it doesn't in fact serve up in backlit plastic, but there it is. Donner or chicken, 'Hawaiian' (served with pineapple ring - exotic) or 'king' (served with an egg - regal) the kebabs and burgers are the reason to get takeaway from here. Just avoid the pizzas, fish and chip shop selling pizzas; it's just a step too far. It's just wrong man. Just wrong.

I used to love this place when it was Pitarras, I fondly remember visiting here on our last day of…read morehigh school at 11am and waiting for it to open so we could shovel handfuls of steaming chips into our mouths to aid our lingering hangovers. I also distinctly remember the owner, who always sported a cap and an absolutely excellent moustache (the skill of moustache grooming is a fine art). This establishment has since changed hands however and the change was not a particularly positive one in my opinion. The chips they do are average and the portions compared to their rivals are pretty small, plus they serve you chips in a little tray which kind of spoils the whole chips-wrapped-up-in-paper thing (it's just not the same when you have a tray supporting them, they should just slip everywhere as you struggle to eat them). They also do the usual Chinese dishes, burgers (which are pretty good, actually), kebabs and pizzas. I generally avoid getting things like kebabs and pizzas in chippies though, I feel that they are best left to proper kebab and pizza shops because when chippies have their fingers in too many pies, they usually end up doing everything a bit crap rather than excelling at a few things. I'm quite a fan of the fish tank in there though; thankfully, they don't put its contents in the deep fat fryer (far too small).
