i've been told how popular eatgoody was and have been dying to try it out myself!! i finally got to visit with a friend on friday, a treat for last day of lectures! we got there right when they opened as the server was super nice and explained everything to us since it was our first time! she told us her personal favorites and the special for today which was veggie dumpling curry! we ended up sharing the special and bibimbap with the small dish of fish cake soup! the portion size was really worth the price! we both were satisfied with our meals and it started getting more packed as lunch time went by! however, there was so much seating downstairs and the overall atmosphere was so subtle and relaxing! we loved the music they had playin and especially found the decor/monitor add a really nice touch! everything was super amazing! the food, service, and atmosphere! it started getting really cold as more people trickled in, but the weather wasn't the best so i don't know if the heating was enough haha;; i most definitely want to come back and try a noodle dish before i leave manchester though!!

What can I say. It is great to write a review about a great place. And it is indeed a great little Korean takeaway! Not only a takeaway of course, as it has plenty of space downstairs in the basement if you feel like staying in. eatGoody can't boast about most plentiful menu, but there is something for everyone - be it something healthy, something spicy or something vegetarian. Actually, their dishes are healthy but qualify for comfort food as well, which doesn't happen very often. Each day they offer a different 'Today's Special', a little cardboard box filled with gorgeous Asian flavours. I am there every Wednesday getting my favourite tofu tempura in sweet chilli and soy sauce. Delicious. Staff are lovely, always greet you with a smile and good energy. It gets busy around lunch time, but I have never failed to get a seat and never had to wait for the order too long either. Cannot wait until next Wednesday!

eatGoody is a very recent and pleasant discovery. Incredibly close to uni, it's a small yet cozy Korean restaurant and takeaway. Some of the dishes are just a bit more expensive than an average student would afford everyday (around 7/8 £); though it is always possible to take the daily offer, that is, a dish (everyday different) which costs around 4£. I had rice with damplings and roast potatoes, it was delicious! Not too spicy, served with vegetables and an amazing gravy. Quality here is undoubtedly a priority, along with customer care. I'll come here again soon, for sure. The only weakness is that credit cards are not accepted; therefore, I advise you all to get some cash and invest it in excellent Korean dishes. ;)

I've only eaten once at eatGoody, but I'm really quite blown away by my first experience of any Far Eastern cuisine and the whole atmosphere of eatGoody in particular. The decor is all wood, exposed brickwork and nice marble wall counters upstairs, downstairs has plentiful seating at individual tables with Korean television showing on a big screen. I would say the place is as informal (upstairs) or formal (downstairs) as you want it to be. All the staff and over half the customers were young Korean, which gave an authentic feel without being intimidating. And my server was really helpful and happy to talk me through the unfamiliar menu as much as I needed, even as the busy lunchtime service started to kick in. Order at the counter, but then they bring it to your table. They do a different 'Megadeal' every day of the week for £3.95, add a side dish for £1.20 (see photos for April 2011 megadeal and regular menus). I went for the Tofu version of Bibimbap, which for £1 extra can be served in a 'Hot Sizzling Bowl', which suited me fine. The sizzling bowl adds not only heat, it also creates a subtle variety of textures and flavours - the soft rice at the centre of the bowl contrasts with the crunchier sizzled rice at the edge. The idea seems to be to mix the whole thing together and top it off with eatGoody's sweet chilli sauce to taste. For a health-conscious vegetarian like myself, there are ample choices in the mains and small dishes to keep me coming back - bibimbap, dupbap, ramen, dumplings, tempura. For tourists, bicycle hire is available right next door from Bicycle Boutique, and the whole wider area has a relaxing feel to it which is quite remarkable considering busy Oxford Road is just around the corner.

Having been a Man Met student back in the early noughties, I like to go back down Oxford Rd to reminisce....more recently, I have been using these jaunts to try out some new eating places and this time, it was eatGoody's turn (thanks to Johnny Q for the recommendation). Next to the Sugden Sport Centre this wee gem of a cafe is right in the heart of the student area and, whilst I was there, had a steady stream of the young folk tucking into various dishes. I went for the spicy tuna Bibim box after deliberating for a good 10 mins (I always worry about getting food envy!) Luckily, I made the right choice, being a greedy girl - I always like to have a good feed and this box didn't let me down. Big portion of sticky steamed rice underneath a quad salad of lettuce, radish, carrot and shredded sweet omelette. Atop was a good mound of spicy tuna - not raw tuna (as i was hoping for, but at this price, how could I expect it) - but canned I think, dressed and minced with their house sauce. The box was brought to me with a squeezey bottle of said sauce and boy did I get addicted quick - like siracha, but with a smoky sweet flavour. I genuinely loved every mouthful, and washed it down with the grape aloe vera drink I grabbed from the fridge. I've plumped straight for the 5 stars for these 5 reasons: beautiful, fresh korean food, attentive service whilst ordering, clean and cosy setting, small but perfectly apt menu and lastly, its reasonable prices.

I came to Eat Goody to get a get a quick lunch recently. My friend and I play badminton in the sports centre across the way and we'd kept on saying that we would have to go and eat there at some point. This place serves little tubs of tasty Korean goodness that make a great and filling lunch. You walk in and order upstairs from the super friendly lady serving and then go downstairs and wait for your food to be brought down to you. This system works just fine. I went for the special of the day which was some tasty and sticky spicy ginger chicken. I thought the meal could have been a bit bigger, but the chicken was tender and not too processed, and it tasted amazing. The specials are usually just under £4, which is really good value. You can easily get a meal for a fiver here, which is just fine by me. Eat Goody makes a great change to getting a sandwich at lunchtime, and is quiet and relaxed as it's located just a street away from the busy Oxford Road. Time to share the secret I think.

I had the kimchi tofu jigae and the kimchi pancake which was pretty big but tasted amazing. In the jigae they also added a poached egg into it which gave it a nice taste, and the spicy factor was perfect; not too spicy. The service is average bit efficient, the food came quite quickly and another good thing is that banchan is served complimentary here, which doesn't seem to be the case with many UK korean restaurants. They also have some Japanese dishes on the menu like sushi, gyoza, temaki and teriyaki. There is parking right outside and it's pay and display but very cheap: 50p for 30 mins and £1 for an hour. The atmosphere is very casual like a cafe, so it's great for lunch as well as dinner. Overall, authentic and tasty Korean food that's well priced and made to a great standard.

Anyway we had originally settled on Red Chili on Portland Street because their menu looked divine online...however do not expect a warm welcome if you turn up at 9.30pm...Expect to receive a cold scowl and shoulder to match instead..so we left.. Anyway back to this place....Mooching through China town we thought ''hey lets try here'' the odd name certainly intrigued us... Instantly a cute waitress beckoned us in, pleasantly handing us a menu and guiding us to a table...each table was simply set with Chinese bowls and chopsticks which gave it that humble feeling... The menu in all honesty offered you items you would find on any Chinese menu, except for the odd fancy Sea bass dish. What grabbed our attention was the set meal where you could choose 3 items EACH from the starter menu, quarter of a duck to share , a main meal and rice/noodles each and a dessert....all for £24 ....bargain.. I was quite concerned how we were going to demolish this all...I mean my handbag was big that night..but the potential doggy bag was not going to fit... The starters to my relief were manageable , there were 4 pieces of assorted dumplings, dried seaweed, one chicken kebab and two hot and sour soups...which came in cute little glass casserole dishes.... The dumplings were like any other, but the soup ...tasted quite OXO cubey....very heavily flavoured in beef stock... The duck flew in next, to which a really polite waiter lovingly shred it in front of us... I admit I broke my Pescaterian diet because it looked so good...plus ducks live on water right? The mains , again ...these did not stand out...they were like any other Chinese Takeaway but the excellent service and friendly atmosphere ...made this special.. By the time we tried to eat this...there was no room for dessert and we were the last ones there..So I thought it would be polite and let these lovely people go home... Overall this place is really good value for money, I think it would be ideal for a large group to meet here and dine. as there would be no quibble about the expense.. The staff are just so genuine , and approachable..I think foodwise this is a three star,,,waiter wise I gives it a four...

We asked if one jug would be enough for our party of 3, to which the faultless response was "that depends how thirsty you are". As my visit here was about a month ago, the finer points are now lost in my memory. The stand-out dishes (the ones that I find myself daydreaming about) are the deep fried aubergine and the cold garlic belly pork. Give me a pile of each of these and I'll be very happy. Don't take squeamish companions here (or do, if you want to scare them). The menu is replete with various types of offal and organ. We ordered some lamb's ovary which was tasty enough - I'd order it again as part of a selection of dishes but it doesn't linger on my mind quite like the aubergine and the pork. The eponymous handmade noodles are delicious - thick and slightly chewy, in a delicious broth. Ours came with beef cooked with garlic and ginger, which was great. We ordered some baby squid skewers but had to make do with 'adult' squid as they had none. This was the main disappointment of the meal - so tough and chewy we struggled to maintain our dignity while gnawing through it. The seasoning hadn't permeated the squid at all and just left a greasy yet chalky residue on my tongue. Boiled rice was, you know, whatever. It's not something I ever personally choose (feels like a waste of time, money and calories) but it was sort of added to the order in a "and how many portions of rice would you like?" way. Food and beer for three greedy, thirsty people came to around £40. I would eat everything again other than the squid and would love to go back to try some more exciting and unusual dishes from their menu.

For my appetiser I had the king prawn gyoza dumplings. They came with a tasty dipping sauce and were served really quickly. For the main course, I chose the ngaulam gaeng keow wan (I wrote it down!) which is basically a thai green curry. It came with lots of cucumber which isn't really my thing, but it was hot both in a spicy and temperature way so it really did the job for me as it was freezing outside! At times, I did feel that it was so spicy the taste of the dish was lost, but I guess that depends on individuals' tastes. Umami is just fine if you're a student and fancy a quick, cheap bite to eat.
