Downtown OKC in Bricktown. The one sky scraper in OKC was suppose to be two identical towers but they never built it :(
Cheri Y.

OKC, not bad, not bad at all. Hubby worked in OKC for the last 5 years till his company was bought. We have now relocated back home to Dallas. I have lived in many many places, so many, I stopped counting years ago. But, I don't think I have ever lived anywhere quite like OKC. Oklahoma is a very unique state, having their partnerships with the American Indian tribes, Oklahoma laws are very unique. Which is what got me interested in Real Estate Law in the first place. I also think it's one of the most beautiful states in America as I still own property in Southern Oklahoma, as I have for many many years. What's great about OKC is it's located right in the middle of the Country. If you like to travel like we do, its so easy to just get in the car & drive anywhere you like in under 10 hours. Santa Fe, Taos, Denver, Boulder, Hot Springs, New Orleans, Padre Island, Pensacola Beach, Kansas, Tennessee etc., we enjoyed the convenience of traveling from OKC to many places quickly & cheaply. OKC is a very cute little city & it's very cheap to live there. There are several tiny little neighborhoods surrounding downtown to choose from. All so picturesque, you would think it's right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Downtown OKC has many cool buildings that I LOVE. Bricktown is very cool with its historic brick buildings like the "Deep Deuce" where Jazz was born. The Skirvin hotel, the only great hotel in OKC, is one of my favorite hotels in the country. They also have one big skyscraper called "The big penis." You can't miss it. It's the only one. When we first arrived, asking directions was hilarious. People would say things like, "go down this street & turn by "the big penis" or he works in "the big penis" or meet us on top of "the big penis" LOL There is a cafe/restaurant on top of "the big penis" but it sucks, pun intended. The story behind "the big penis" is that there was suppose to be two buildings but they couldn't afford to build the other one so they just have the one "big penis" protruding into the sky. There are not very many great restaurants or much nightlife everything closes by 10pm pretty much. If you are used to living in a big city like Dallas, like we are, you will have to travel to find great shopping & dining. The shopping is terrible. No good clothing stores or grocery stores. Period. Make Amazon your friend. There are at least 5 great restaurants & this last year things were getting even better in the restaurant scene. I have high hopes in the near future for OKC's restaurant scene. I have to be honest & admit it was quite boring to live in OKC, however, bc there were not many places to go or eat out very much we did save like a gazillionTrillion pesos. I saved so much moo-la that I even took a 8 month vacation in Mexico. Most places we have lived we hated. OKC was a pleasant surprise. A great little city that seems to have a great future ahead of it. With the new Convention Center being built & further downtown development in the works, my prediction is it's going to be BOMB in 10 years. In the meantime, if you like to stay home & save tons of money, this is a great little city to live in. Good Luck OKC! Thanks for having us, it was very lucrative indeed, but our home, like our hearts, will forever be in Texas. God bless y'all & God bless Oklahoma.

The restaurants were really busy which is good. They have the canal drained. First time I've ever seen tht. The place was pretty lit up and you could hear music and people enjoying. Very large police presence on the Main Street going thru but I imagine tht s fir traffic control after the concert. Lots of construction going on just west of bricktown which affects the traffic flow. We got out of there before the concert let out

This is the entertainment and sports District of DOwntown OKC. You will find many bars, pubs, and…read moreresturants in this area. Some popular restaurants include Revolution Pizza, Bucktown Brewery, Rendezvous Pizza, and Mickey Mantle Steakhouse. There is metered street parking available throughout the District. Some restaurants have their own private lots and the District is serviced by public transportation, including a train. The District has a bunch of hotels, bars, restaurants, and a baseball field, Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Comets, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. There is also a movie theater there as well. Most of the District of covered by metered street parking and commercial parking lots, but they are both rather reasonably priced. Paycom Center and the Oklahoma City Memorial are just outside of the District. One issue I had with the District was the motorcycles racing u and down the street late at night, they were very loud and kept me up. This area has a storied history and definitely promotes public art. There are some very fascinating murals and sculptures there. You can catch the Water taxis, which provides guests with a guided tour of the city. I was there during the week (Monday-Thursday) and there was not a lot of people roaming the District. I still enjoyed my time there and it was pretty fun. You are surely to end up here if you are visiting OKC. It is a must visit.

@OKGazette Halloween Parade is one of my favorite local events, and I've been both a spectator and…read morea participant. From a spectator standpoint, it is a fun night out, doing something totally different than you normally get to do. The floats are all really well-done, and the personalities of the groups shine through the costumes and makeup. As a participant this year, I got to see some of the behind the scenes of a very well-organized event. How you successfully wrangle that many individual groups with participants totaling into the thousands, I'll never understand. The provided a form that had to be filled out several weeks in advance, with all of our information, and that was the script the Emcees read. (The Emcees were great and their costumes were killer). They sent out a really comprehensive packet of information ahead of time, and then held an informational meeting for participants. By the time the parade arrived we still had any questions, that's our fault! I highly recommend this excellent event every year and hope it is part of the landscape for years to come.

This event is becoming one of Oklahoma City's signature events. I have been coming to it since it…read morewas known as the "Ghouls Gone Wild" parade and it never disappoints. Although I have never particpated, it is a sight to behold. The costumes, floats and genral craziness are a great departure from the everyday humdrum of OKC life. This year I got to experience it from a whole new (and what will likely be a great venue to come) perspective. The parade route was changed and it now goes mostly down the newest area of OKC to go under urban renewal - Midtown. I was fortunate enought to attend the "Cat On A Hot 10 Roof" Halloween Party in the old Packard Building (on NW 10th and Robinson). Yelpers take note...this will be one of OKCs newest rooftop bars when it fully opens, I believe they are going to just call it 10 Roof. It is a part of the new restaurant being built below it - Packard's New American Kitchen, at least that is the tentative name. Owned by the people responsible for the Interurban chain this will be a departure from their traditional burgers and beer menu and offer unique and different offerings from which they catered the Halloween party. I don't yet believe they've decided on a full menu but the bottom restaurant is ultra modern looking and the rooftop deck is divine and will not only be a place to watch the Halloween Parade but no doubt a destination on the rise. I will be glad when it finally opens and appears on yelp to be reviewed thoroughly but just a heads up - this will be another fantastic location in Midtown.
