This market is the main cafe, convenience store and gas station in a small rural town with a population of just over 150 residents. Service was friendly and prompt. Coffee was hot. I stopped in one morning to have breakfast. I ordered their Denver Omelet which is a three egg omelet filled with diced tomatoes, green peppers, onion and chunks of ham for $11.70. I added cheese for an additional 60 cents. It comes with hash browns and your choice of toast. Quite a hearty breakfast and very reasonably priced! I enjoyed the omelet so much that I went back the next day and ordered the same thing. There were 4 or 5 different folks working in the cafe / store when I was there. They seemed to share different roles from waiting, cashier, pumping gas and minding the store. The store itself carries a variety of essentials, frozen meats & seafoods, beverages and snack items, typical for many other convenience stores. Should I visit the area again in the future, I would definitely stop in for breakfast.

We stopped in town for a car wash and a bite mid-road-trip, and decided to fuel up here before making the trek out to Painted Hills. Which was a good thing - there's not a ton of gas on that lonely stretch of road! Not much to report other than adequate bathrooms, decent enough service, and very convenient in/out access. The lack of an…read moreupdated pump means that if you are paying w/ a credit card, it must be run manually and I'll admit feeling somewhat concerned when the woman pumping our gas disappeared into that old shed...supposedly to 'run the credit card' for our gas purchase. Oddly enough, not only did this little used CC get charged for the gas but an additional $1,500.00 in women's clothing and shoes were also purchased online within mere days of us stopping there. I cannot prove that the theft of my CC information was from this transaction but considering the level of security I use otherwise, this was the only time my card has ever been out of my sight. I don't use this particular CC for any other risky transactions. If I could prove it, I'd be calling the cops.

The old schoolhouse and the federally-funded interpretive center across from the County Courthouse were particularly interesting. And of course the kids had a good time digging for fossils back behind the high school. I don't normally leave reviews of gas stations. But I wanted to recommend that you fill your gas tank here during your visit for 3 reasons: 1 - The service was great. The kid who worked there was friendly, and the fuel pump is the old style with the gauges that roll upwards. It's been quite a while since I've seen those, and this may be one of the last working pumps of that style I've seen around. 2 - The price was fair, especially for being a monopoly in a small town with no other options around. 3 - When you see the charge on your credit card statement, it will read "Fossil Fuel". Seriously. :)

Driving into Chevron, I heard "Ding Ding!" from an automatic bell. Asound from my childhood, nearly extinct, letting staff know a customer has arrived. Fill-up we got, from Eddie. Eddie has lived in Prairie City over 40 years. He's seen it thriving in his childhood to a fine rural place working hard to revive. Eddie filled out tank. He iffered to wash the windows, old style, but..."The Windows are Mine!"... for personal reasons. They needed it. Our pod has ended the highest hopes of a million insects for 2,000 miles. Insect funeral services are MY territory. I do not want D talking bad about other's window work. Chevron has an amazing windshield washing additive. The buckets here had plenty of bug-cutting additive, excellent squeegees, and of course paper towels. The C-Store has a wide range of products, suitable for pod munching and hydrating. Would we stop here agsin? Yes we would. Ding Ding!

Brought car in cause my driver side door was completely and utterly jammed. Asked for a diagnostic…read more Kept calling to ask for an estimate and they kept saying to "call in an hour." Then called asking if it was ok for them to take off the door panel for the diagnostic I said "is that needed?" And they said it was already off. Once again I asked for an estimate and was told to call in an hour. Then in an hour was told they would call. They kept my car for two days and after that they estimated OVER SEVEN HUNDRED for the estimate and the REPAIR I DIDNT ASK FOR because they had to order a part. My uncle and dad (both used to work on cars) went in with me to figure out what was happening and the owner wouldn't even look at me when I tried to speak nor would he address me. Only my father or uncle. When told to talk to me because it's my car and he was being rude he only rolled his eyes at my mother who was the one to say if then continued to ignore me. So I asked for my key, payed the 300 for the diagnostic (still insane they only had my car for that long because they REFUSES to tell me what was happening) and left. Upon getting home I found the reason they charged so much was NOT to order the needed part which I ordered myself for $48. It was because when refusing to give me any information it was because they BROKE my door panel and tore through some of the wiring and were trying to charge me repairs to cover their asses. Why did all this happen? Because I'm a young woman who clearly didn't know much and went into their shop expecting them to treat me like a human but instead they took advantage of my naivety and I learned the hard lesson that I will never be taken seriously unless I have my big scary ex mechanic dad with me.
