Then called asking if it was ok for them to take off the door panel for the diagnostic I said "is that needed?" And they said it was already off. Once again I asked for an estimate and was told to call in an hour. Then in an hour was told they would call. They kept my car for two days and after that they estimated OVER SEVEN HUNDRED for the estimate and the REPAIR I DIDNT ASK FOR because they had to order a part. My uncle and dad (both used to work on cars) went in with me to figure out what was happening and the owner wouldn't even look at me when I tried to speak nor would he address me. Only my father or uncle. When told to talk to me because it's my car and he was being rude he only rolled his eyes at my mother who was the one to say if then continued to ignore me. So I asked for my key, payed the 300 for the diagnostic (still insane they only had my car for that long because they REFUSES to tell me what was happening) and left. Upon getting home I found the reason they charged so much was NOT to order the needed part which I ordered myself for $48. It was because when refusing to give me any information it was because they BROKE my door panel and tore through some of the wiring and were trying to charge me repairs to cover their asses. Why did all this happen? Because I'm a young woman who clearly didn't know much and went into their shop expecting them to treat me like a human but instead they took advantage of my naivety and I learned the hard lesson that I will never be taken seriously unless I have my big scary ex mechanic dad with me.

I can honestly say I have never had a better car-care experience or a better customer service…read moreexperience than I did at Auto Rehab. I went to HS in Bend and was stopping through at the end of a 2-week road trip when my car (2001 Toyota Corolla) started making a horrendous noise on my way out of town. We called a tow truck (Pro Tow, also amazing) who suggested we go to Auto Rehab instead of the Toyota dealer in town. I was incredibly thankful for that because I dealt with the Toyota dealer in HS and they are overpriced and kind of terrible but didn't know where else to go. All of this happened on a Friday afternoon and the garage and lot at Auto Rehab were full, but Don (the owner, I believe) got my car in immediately and determined that something had sheered off and was wandering around in the engine. He showed me and my BF the amount of metal shavings in the engine and explained that it would require an entirely different engine to be saved. He then called around and got quotes for a used engine and presented me with my options. The amount an engine plus the labor needed to put it in exceeded the blue book value of the car so I made the tough decision to call it a loss. Don suggested selling it to a salvage yard for parts since up to now the car had behaved perfectly and never had any problems. I was kind of a mess because over the course of 2 hours I had gone from perfectly functioning car to scrap metal and was now stranded in Bend. Don called around to the salvage yards he works with to get bids for me and then gave me the information to work out the details with them. I didn't have the title to the car with me which meant there was no way I could sell the car that day, meaning it would need to be stored for the weekend at least. I was ready to pay a storage fee to keep it at the shop, but Don said he wouldn't charge me since he wasn't looking to get rich off of my misfortune. So Don spent a total of about 3 hours working on my car and calling around for bids for me, stayed an hour late on a Friday evening for us while we waited for a rental car, and is storing my car for at least 3 days. Total cost: $140. Unbelivable. He knew up front that I was a one-shot, out of town customer and still went the extra mile. I kind of wish I still lived in Bend just so I could use him as my mechanic for the rest of time. I had my BF who knows a fair bit about cars with me but I know if I had been by myself (a 20-something woman who knows where to put the gas and not much else) I would have gotten the exact same service, which is something I have discovered is exceedingly rare these days. I've lived in Seattle for 7 years and have yet to find a mechanic I actually trust to not take advantage of me. I am not the type of person to write reviews, in fact this is only my second Yelp review ever and I had to create a Google+ account to review this business over there. If you are a local or are just passing through please give these people your business! You will not be disappointed.

I had all but given up when the phone rang, it was Fred. He said "if your'e out and about, stop by, lets see what you got". Hesitant as I was because I just spent the whole day getting quotes, back and forth while driving a car that's best described for teenagers (I'm 54). This little car was 2010 Hyundai accent with tint windows and a stick shift. I truly believe I gave myself carpal tunnel driving it the little time I had it! lmao!! Anyhow, at the end of the day, he took that car in on trade with some cash for a more 'sustainable' car for my age. A good, clean, nicer car, a Chevy Malibu. I couldn't be happier. Such an honest guy Fred is. I feel like this cat finally got the mouse! Thank you Fred! I personally will NEVER take my car anywhere else! You are the best!
