I was enjoying the first morning hours before the intense heat of the day set in and this was today's find. There is also a wonderful compass display of the surrounding mountains and their heights. Some quiet benches and a fountain round out this tiny park.

I guess this lot was once a gas station, and then an abandoned lot until the park was built in 2002. It seems like it was probably a big project, but a worthwhile one for the citizens of Ojai. There are benches, a water fountain, some space for just walking around and enjoying the open air. Small, but luxurious. My husband and I dropped by on our way to Nocciola across the street, and it was a lovely place for a quick stroll. We had the park almost entirely to ourselves, and it was very pleasant and peaceful. If you want a calm public spot to relax for a bit in Ojai, visit Cluff Vista Park and take a breather.

Sitting just on the outskirts of downtown Filmore is this newish skatepark that's an interesting mix of street and ramp. The setup is dominated by a large scattering of street style bits and pieces that includes all kinds of boxes, ledges, banks, stairs and rails. Even the three different entries to the skatepark are fully skatable. It's an eclectic mix but really versatile and offers a lot of options and challenges. The central area contains a bunch of transitions that loosely form an open bowl. They range in size from 4-8ft and also include a hip and a couple 1.5ft extensions. It all kind of works in a strange way and isn't like anything we've seen before. There's also a relatively unused mid sized pool style bowl (6-9ft) that has nice transitions and pool coping. Best at low tide however since when the tide is high, a lot of the beach is under water. The leash law in Ventura County is that a leash is optional, unless otherwise posted. So a leach is not required. However, we always bring our pups on a leash and then let them run free once on the beach. If we see someone with their dog on a leash, we'll put ours on their leash presuming that they know their dog better than we do, and figure that perhaps their dog doesn't play well with others.

You can take your dog off leash and have them go explore, play with each other, socialize (sniff butts), and take in all the new aromas of the park! There's been doggy bags every time I've come, and there's also a place with picnic tables in the shade for you to sit down and watch your doggy or for them to rest in the shade if they need to. They have a short, doggy sized water fountain. You just have to use your foot to turn it on and your dog can drink from it. If your dog is like mine and doesn't like drinking straight from the water fountain, I would suggest bringing a collapsable water bowl for you doggy to drink from. There's obstacles on both the big and small doggy park sides for your dogs to practice on, although my dog is all about socializing (sniffing butts) and doesn't understand the obstacle course cause his training sucks (crud, that's a burn on the owner, which is me). I only urge people to please make sure your dogs are up-to-date on their shots before bringing them here and please don't bring your kids if they are afraid of dogs (one parent brought her daughter, who was afraid of dogs and didn't want one anyone near her). And please, please, please pick up after your dog. I know it's a stinky (get it? :-)) part of dog ownership, but it's still part of ownership. Otherwise, let your dog run free (in the enclosed space)!!!!
