It was my first time in Ojai and rock climbing. Everything from this climbing experience was worth the trip. The drive through the canyon road leading you to the meeting point is breath taking especially in the morning. Alex is not only very knowledgeable but he also was able to share his passion with me which made the experience very compelling. The instructions are very detailed and safety is a priority. Alex will challenge you but won't push you past your limits. I highly recommend Alex for your rock climbing experience. I personally will be back! read more

Having a day to climb outdoors and enjoy the scenery is definitely a must do in Ojai and I highly recommend Ojai Rock Climbing. Alex runs the business and he brings so much knowledge about climbing, the local terrain and fauna of the area. I have introduced a first time climber with Alex and have also taken a 1-on-1 TR and route cleaning instructional course with him and I can honestly say that I'm glad I did! Not to mention that Alex also takes the best climbing photos for you to cherish. Book your next outdoor climb with Ojai Rock Climbing you won't be disappointed. read more

My husband and I had the best experience climbibg with Alex! We opted for the half day and originally planned it as a Christmas gift to each other. Well unfortunately between work and Covid sickness we had to wait until June 2022 to go! Alex was perfectly accommodating when we needed to reschedule (check your booking terms they are fair/easy to follow). When we finally got to go it was such a treat. Alex scheduled for the afternoon so we wouldn't have to climb in the hot sun. He had a yummy picnic packed for us at beautiful Sespe gorge. After evaluating our experience and comfort level on the wall he picked a route for us that was perfect for us. I can tell that he can tailor the climb based on the experience level of the group so this would be great for beginners or experienced climbers. Although our route was quite thrilling, I felt completely safe and in good hands the entire time. We learned a lot from him even though we didn't opt for the instructional outing. One unexpected bonus was he took some really great photos of us with his go pro! We weren't thinking too much about photography but the photos have been a nice way to remember our outing. Honestly if you are on the fence about booking- just do it! read more

First time rock climbing with my 7 year old son and we had a great experience! I thought it would be some baby rocks with a couple of newbs but we actually climbed some fun and challenging mountains. Felt very safe and in good hands. Will definitely be booking another session, highly recommend! read more

Ojai Rock Climbing - Up he goes! - Rock Climbing Near Me - Ojai, California

Alex was fantastic! Everything about the weekend exceeded our expectations. We did an advanced 'gym to crag sport climbing course' over 2 days. 2 days is a must, grab a friend so you have a buddy and to make it more cost effective. The course was even mask and COVID-19 friendly. Very professional and safe - not just on the rock.. We put a lot of effort into learning things prior and also came in with quite a bit of experience.. So, we were worried we would have to go slowly over basic stuff. Instead, Alex immediately recognised that and fast-paced the basics, improvised, and ended getting us into more advances self rescue, and the theory/basics of multi-pitch climbing. He is one of our few local crag developers and is fantastic for this community. Please help spread the word about his excellent service and support someone who has put in a decade of work, money, and time for our benefit. read more

When I took out my friend for his first rock climb, he was TERRIFIED! But Alex's calm, professional demeanor soon reassured my friend that he knew what he was doing. Alex took us out to this gorgeous 300 foot wall out behind Ojai, and provided us with all the gear we needed and even packed a delicious lunch. We did 4 climbs totaling about 4 hours, up to 130 feet. 5/5 would definitely recommend. read more

This review is 12 months too late. Last summer I surprised my fiance with a trip to Ojai Valley Inn. I knew she would want to do some outdoor adventuring, so I looked and found Alex and Ojai Rock Climbing. From booking all the way to climbing, Alex made the whole experience a breeze. He gave us proper expectations and how to prepare for the day. On the day of, he gave us perfect directions where to meet him and then we caravanned to our climbing point. We were both novices to rock climbing and he made us feel comfortable from the first moment. Put on our gear, following him to the spots where we'd be climbing, and had a blast climbing with him for the next couple hours. He was a great teacher, motivator, and kept us entertained with history and information of the area and Ojai. All in all it was such a memorable experience. Thank you Alex! read more

Alex was super great! He provide everything (boots, harness, helmets)! I brought a 7 year old to the climbing school where he got his first experience on climbing real rock walls. Alex was very patient, helpful and also provided good coaching to help keep him climbing when he felt a bit scared (Alex also knows when a kid really does need to come down.) By the end of the day this 7 year was climbing confidently and kept wanting to keep climbing. A job well done by Alex, we would definitely use him again! read more

Went rock climbing with a group of 10 for a bachelor party, and Alex was amazing! This was one of the best guided experiences I've ever had. Our group ranged from first-timers like me to pretty advanced climbers and we all had an absolute blast. When we arrived, Alex has already set up the ropes for 2 routes and provided coolers filled with snacks, drinks, and sandwiches. He had a great laid-back attitude and made everybody very comfortable while at the same time being very thorough in his explanations. I would highly recommend Alex! read more

I never post reviews but wanted to share the amazing experience my family and I had with Ojai Rock Climbing. We went on our first ever rock climbing experience in Ojai with Alex. He is professional, patient, calm, and attentive to detail and safety which makes him such a great instructor and guide. He even made my 9-year old (who is typically afraid to try anything new or scary) feel safe enough to attempt a 125-foot ascent. If/when we go rock climbing again, we'll definitely hire Alex again! read more

Alex was AMAZING!!!!! WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE ACCURATELY WHAT AN AMAZING TOUR GUIDE HE WAS!!! He was so fun to hangout with and get to know while he was teaching us rock climbing. We totally loved it! It was a bit intimidating driving up to the cliff but Alex was extremely trustworthy in regards to safety. We did 3 rock climbs total and very thoroughly enjoyed it. We would love to go again and use him as our tour guide and teacher. He did amazing and we climbed a cliff that we would have never been able too without him. What an amazingly rewarding experience! I purchased a certificate for an afternoon for my son (age 13) and a friend with Alex, climbing the Sespe Gorge, as a Christmas present, and wow, it was awesome when we scheduled it for this month. Alex was kind, patient, and encouraging with the boys. Along the way, he taught them safety techniques and had them practice them as they learned to belay. They did five different climbs over the course of their afternoon and chatted the whole way home about their plan to go back and climb to the top of the wall. For their final one, they climbed 110 feet to a tree part way up the wall. Alex provided all of the necessary gear, from climbing shoes to helmets, as well as delicious snacks, all the way down to the water. He was professional and courteous to work with, from the planning to the experience itself. Finally, the natural beauty of the setting is breathtaking. My son, who loves to climb, pronounced this exponentially better than a rock climbing gym. He loved being outdoors. Thank you Alex! We will be back. read more

My husband and I have been climbing for about a year and a half in the gym, and wanted to learn how to climb outdoors. Luckily, we found Alex with Ojai Rock Climbing! Alex is knowledgeable, and passionate about climbing, and it has shown in our two sessions with him. We have covered many topics in-depth to help us transition from indoor climbing to outdoor climbing, with lots of visual demonstration tools to practice "on the ground" before going on the rock. Communication (email or text!) is prompt and we were given clear directions, tips, and felt comfortable with asking questions in between sessions. It is always a fun day at the crag with Alex! Can't wait to climb with Ojai Rock Climbing again soon. read more

My family of four really enjoyed our rock climbing outing with Alex. We met him in town in Ojai and we drove up to Wheeler Gorge. It was a perfect setting to climb -- the temperature down in the gorge was much cooler than up at "street" level or above. Alex was very patient with us and showed us how to use the equipment, get tied in, and even to belay one another. Over the course of the morning/early afternoon, we did three climbs of increasing difficulty. Alex was very encouraging and gave us pointers on the best ways to make progress up each route. Alex even provided lunch, which was a nice break to rest and recharge for the subsequent climbs. We will definitely be climbing with Alex again the next time we are in the area. read more
