Ohana Dance is an incredible organization. Such incredible talent has come out of this studio in Redondo Beach. I have two daughters that have really found their thing by dancing on their competitive team and in the magical productions the studio puts on twice a year. So professional and impressive. From dancing en pointe in ballet to incredible jazz and contemporary performances - even hip hop. The range the studio teaches is from novice to advanced. Ohana has taught discipline, technique and teamwork to my kids. We have met amazing families and friends at the studio. Really special teachers and friendships have been made that have made my kids feel like they are truly in a family environment. I love watching my girls dance on stage and shine- thank you to Ohana Dance for everything you do for my kids. I feel compelled to respond to the studio owner's public statement, as several claims made in response to my review were not only misleading but factually incorrect. First, regarding the competition team: we were removed because we did NOT sign a new contract granting rights to use my daughter's likeness. This was NOT a part of the original competition team agreement that we signed at the beginning of the season. The likeness release was a new, separate contract sent digitally just two weeks before the scheduled competition -- not something we had previously agreed to. To imply we were aware or had signed off on this earlier is simply untrue. It is incredibly concerning and ethically questionable that a child could be excluded from a team they've trained with, simply because a parent is not comfortable signing over rights to their child's image. Consent, especially when it involves minors, should never be coerced. Second, regarding the band and recreational classes: we did NOT state we wished to discontinue. We were removed, the studio still billed our credit card but removed us from the recreational band group. We continued to pay for recreational classes despite what happened. We ultimately chose to leave hula class specifically because of age-inappropriate disciplinary practices. We raised these concerns via email at the time and before this incident and we also have messages from other parents echoing similar concerns. There were repeated instances of children crying due to the instructor's tone and lack of patience with younger students, not an isolated issue. If this studio claims to be committed to "transparency," I welcome that. I have saved the emails, class communications, and parent messages that support every word of this response. Dance should foster joy, confidence, and creativity- not fear or shame. A child should never feel intimidated or punished in a recreational activity meant to uplift. I hope this encourages a moment of reflection. Families entrust their children to your care -that should never be taken lightly. read more

It started with one class and then it became two and well now, let's just say I can list Ohana as my second home. :) My daughter left a negative dance environment and was really trying to find her way in the dance world. I am so happy we found Ohana. She is thriving! I have seen her grow as a dancer while attending Ohana. The teachers - are dedicated to their craft and have a joy of teaching those eager to learn. They have fun, they are tough and they want to bring out the best in their dancers The owners - have a dedication to the studio and the dancers that is top tier. I have witnessed each of them give advice and support that goes beyond dance. They listen and adjust things, if needed. The families- the more seasoned parents will offer help and guidance to the new families joining. Some times new families want to hear from parents just like them. When I started I knew I could ask the staff and when I did, I got great detailed answers. But there were times I wanted to talk to a dance mom and get their take on a question I had. I'm happy and my dancer is happy! We have found our Ohana. read more

Ohana is supposed to mean "family", but you're certainly not treated that way here. Some of the teachers here are great with the kids, but the management and ownership are something else. They preach a respectful and supportive environment, but the irony is they allow kids to be treated awful by their peers, have teachers tell them they aren't good and on top of that are disrespectful to the "clients" aka the parents by talking down to them or flat out yelling at them. The lack of empathy is astounding and does not nurture any sort of positive environment. They act like they care, but it all just seems like a facade. Sadly, we're not the only ones this has happened to and I'm sure we won't be the last. Just make sure you keep your mouth shut and smile as a parent. That's what you're expected to do according to the conduct policy. Parents that are still there that I know have had similar experiences -- I encourage you to speak up and not be talked to in a condescending fashion - just keep in mind they'll probably tell (not ask) you to leave if you do. You have a voice and there are other studios that will not talk to you like this and that actually have a respectful environment. I've talked with plenty of other teachers at various studios that were appalled to hear the way business is conducted here. I hope the studio management and ownership reads this and takes a good look in the mirror at the treatment of their customers. The hypocrisy displayed by them is a real thing and they certainly don't deserve the name Ohana until they earn it. read more

My daughters have been dancing with Ohana for the past five years. Before that, we tried two other local studios, but they never felt connected enough to stay. My kids were shy, but the teachers and directors at Ohana made them feel welcome and supported from the beginning. Our experience has always been positive. The directors, Krista and Jack, are consistently seeking ways to improve and are open to addressing any concerns that come up. My conversations with them have always been respectful, and I truly feel heard--never dismissed or spoken down to. Now that my kids are part of the competition team, Ohana has become their second home. They spend hours training and rehearsing, and the friends they've made have become like a second family. Their time at Ohana has helped them grow into confident and positive individuals. Ohana has provided a nurturing and inspiring environment where my daughters have not only grown as dancers but as people. Ohana Dance - There are no words to express how amazing this studio has been for our kiddo. Considered "late" to dance training at age 11, over the past 4 years our (now teenager) has flourished and grown. With the goal of being a professional dancer, the Admin, Owners, and Choreographers have been nothing but supportive and wonderful through the years. Now that our teen is headed to LA County High School for the Arts in their Dance Program, our dancer will continue training at Ohana in addition to the training she will receive at school. My daughter has been dancing at Ohana Dance for over 5 years. We have danced at two other South Bay studios but found our home here. The main reason we have stayed with Ohana is because of the way it has welcomed my daughter (and family). The teachers and staff are all positive, encouraging, and supportive. She has made best friends here and this studio has become her happy, safe place. I am the type of mother that always has questions and the staff is always available to answer my questions in person, by phone call, or by email. The owners are very transparent and are available to go over contracts and billing when you have a question, or two, like me. My daughter has been in all their productions as well as the competition team so I appreciate their constant communication and patience with me. The studio is clean, well-maintained, and has a TV in the lobby with a live feed so parents can see their dancers in class, which I love. Very bad sign-up experience. +++++++++ We signed our girls ages 5 & 6 up for Mini Jazz on Saturday. We were all very excited. Automated email told us to come at 6.40pm. It reminded us the day before at 6.40pm. We arrived at 6.30pm Saturday and no one was there. We called and emailed Krista. She did reply via email one time; saying MiniJazz was for Saturday morning, and linked to a schedule. The schedule didn't list Mini Jazz for Saturday morning; but did list a Jazz 1 for Wednesday. On Thursday night, I asked Krista and Angela via email to clarify the time on Saturday. It is Sunday; and no response from either Krista or Angela. Thanks! read more

Parking... parking was very spacious especially for the time I went which was on Saturday at 11am. The front door was closed but walked to the back and went in thought there. Service... it being my daughters first time there they said your first lesson is free. They have several options regarding payment and how frequent you will be going. Make sure you talk to the woman in the office regarding pricing. Instructor... Ariene I believe her name is. Well my daughter loved her. Especially how she tried to include everyone in different activities and different kind of drills. This was the Tahitian dance. My daughter is half Hawaiian so for her to learn from another islander was great. Final thought** well if my daughter loved it then I love it. So I signed her up. I take the adult ballet classes here at Ohana. Mia, the instructor , is wonderful. She has strong technical knowledge and is able to make good corrections that helps the dancer grow. She has the ability to adapt the class to the skill level of the dancers that day - from basics to challenging an experienced dancer. This is a great skill with adult ballet ! My coworker and I attended a free trial class and we chose the Hula for adults. Krista, owner and instructor was amazing!! I never thought my hips could sway that way. LOL we learned a full dance with the song La'ieikawai by Hoku Zuttemeister in an hour. It's not as easy as you think coordinating your hands, hips, and feet but Of course practice makes perfect! Krista makes the class fun and easy to follow! Her dance studio is very clean and simple. Her office is so cute and has a small fridge for those who need to purchase water or a sports drink. What a great studio! Unlike Dance 1, this place has nice people that work there. The ballet teacher is the best and the kids are so happy. All of the dance instructors are great and very easy to talk to. Angela at the front desk is very helpful. Great community and excellent teachers. I am not a coordinated human being. I can shake my body, I don't know if I could call it dancing. LOL. Krista has the patience of a monk with her students. I've watched her teach kids classes as well and her relationship with them is really special. All of her classes end with a hug (for the kids) and she has a great way to explain dances in technical ways as well as visual, for those specific types of learners. My daughter and I had the pleasure of taking her first ballet lesson at this studio. It was truly a magical experience. The studio is gorgeous and the teacher is absolutely brilliant. I found this dance studio the week after they opened in February 2015, and quickly signed my 2 year old daughter up for Creative Movement classes. And then, just as quickly, signed myself up for adult ballet! Ms. Allynne teaches both classes and is amazing. She is loving and b-e-yond patient with the little ones and is just as nurturing to my class and me-- out-of-shape mama. (I danced when I was younger, but it has been 19+ years and two kids later). For both classes, she meets students where they are at and then stretches you to learn and grow. If my daughter has mastered a technique, she asks her to try a new one. In the adult class, stretches or steps can be modified for various abilities, tailored to skill level or adapted for old injuries. Adult ballet class is fun but after the hour you feel accomplishment (both mentally in "getting" a technique as well as in your stretched out muscles!) There are plenty of laughs and I quickly noticed progress in my stretches. Ohana really is family-oriented. Both adults and children are encouraging and genuine (in class and in the waiting area). I took my son at Ohana to learn Hip/Hop & Breakdance to help build his confidence. After taking classes at Ohana for 10 months he is now part of the dance company and have competed five times.
