We stayed here in early March for one week, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
I really wanted to like this hotel, but there are so many things that need improvement.
PROS: This hotel is located in the Downtown (Centro) part of Cancun, which for me was a plus. I preferred staying in this area rather than the Hotel Zone. Our room was very large, the king-sized bed was comfortable & the room had a 55-inch TV. The room has travertine floors throughout. The lobby is done in modern pop-art theme. The pool area is also very attractive and the bar nearby the pool is also nice. The housekeeping staff were very good.
CONS: This hotel is actually 2 hotels in one (Oh! The Urban Oasis & Smart by Oasis); Oh! The Urban Oasis does not have 24 hour receptionists (their reception/concierge staff only work from 8 AM to 7 PM during the week). The 2 hotels are connected by a corridor and they shut the lights off at night, so it's really difficult to see where you're walking when you come in through the Smart lobby. While the reception/concierge staff are friendly, they're not very helpful (I'll explain later).
Breakfast was cold every day (they put the hot buffet right below an AC unit). I also did not learn until our last day that, in addition to the buffet, they had items for breakfast that I could order from the kitchen. And another thing: I wanted to pour myself a cup of coffee and one of the waiters/busboys took the carafe away from me and said he would serve me at the table; then I sat down and watched him serve other tables before coming to ours (I could've had my coffee 5 minutes ago, and messing with my first cup of coffee of the day is a serious matter).
The air conditioner filter in our room was absolutely filthy with dust, and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in many months.
For some strange reason, they spray plants with chemicals in the morning when people are waiting to be picked up for tours. The gardener uses an industrial respirator mask, but I guess they're not too worried about the guests.
I wanted to have dinner in another Oasis hotel's restaurant. I asked 2 concierges in this hotel to make the reservation for me on our first day, on our 2nd day and on our 4th day. They told me that they could not contact the restaurant. I think they just forgot. On the 5th day, I finally spoke to the hotel Manager who finally made the reservation. This was the one thing I wanted to do on this vacation and it almost didn't happen and wouldn't have if I hadn't been pushy about this. I don't know why this was such a difficult task.
The night doorman (Atilano) was absolutely rude--he never replied whenever I said good evening to him & one time he actually hissed at me like a snake.
The "high speed wi-fi" was ridiculous. The first day we arrived, it worked but for the next 6 days, the speed of the wi-fi never exceeded 0.19 Mbps. I complained to the front desk many times and it never got better and I never got an explanation.
The Oasis Hotel chain purports to be an upscale hotel chain, so I expect better service than what we had on this vacation. read more
