I've been going to Exercise Coach since 2020, and they are still my favorite place to exercise…read more Their trainers are all so friendly, and despite the quick 20-minute format, they take the time to get to know their clients personally. Working out has been a part of my weekly routine since I was in my 20s, and I've done a few types of routines, including high intensity kickboxing, interval training, and yoga. When I injured my shoulder after two years of kickboxing, I knew I had to make a change. Exercise Coach's format is surprisingly effective. You really don't have to sweat buckets to achieve your goals! Strength training has helped me tremendously, and I've seen a dramatic change in my body as a result. When I started at Exercise Coach in Sept 2020, I wanted to lose weight. With a change in my diet (i.e., eating better, and most importantly, eating smaller portions)--combined with strength training at Exercise Coach--I dropped 45 pounds in 10 months, and have kept it off after all this time. The environment is also fun, with clients chatting together during the workout. It makes the 20 minutes go by very quickly! They are a bit expensive (especially compared to the Rec Center), but I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Walking in I didn't know what to expect but was immediately greeted by the guest services guy and another trainer. I'm sure they could tell I was new because I was late, I got lost and went to the old location on Park Road. Either way, they welcomed me to the 4:30 cycle class and immediately provided me with shoes. The front entrance was cute and small, I presumed the entire facility was small until I walked down the ramp. To my surprise, they have a huge workout area, bathrooms, and showers as well as another room that provided weights and the cycling room. This workout facility is in the perfect location of the quickly growing southend.

I've been working with Michael at Shape Up for roughly a year and a half and I can't speak highly…read moreenough of my experience. When I came to him I was still dealing with pain from a shoulder surgery, I hadn't regularly worked out in over a year, and I had some bad habits from my time in the Army. From the start I was impressed. He took great care to remind me that doing things properly and painlessly was the goal, regardless of how much (or how little) weight was being moved. The workout plan during our sessions and outside of them has allowed me to be far more consistent and make the most of my schedule. His studio is outstanding, and the constant addition of new equipment and tools to help his clients always impresses me. The results are evident in the strength I've gained, and I'm in the best shape I've been in a very long time. Thank you Michael!

Shape Up Fitness & Wellness Consulting is a best kept fitness secret in Charlotte. They offer…read moretraditional and nontraditional ways to get fit in a still-expanding studio on Park Rd. I have received a wellness consultation there and participated in their bootcamp classes. You also have the option of one-on-one personal training where the attention is all on you and your fitness goals or you can opt for the bootcamp classes (what I did!) which are small groups between 5-10 individuals, where you will will feel like you are in basic training for the Army.:) My experience with bootcamp and trainers: The bootcamp exercises vary...sprints, jumping rope, circuits, abs, squats and more. It's truly one of those feelings where it hurts but feels good. You know what I mean? You know you are working hard but it helps get results. You can burn 700+ calories in just one session! The owner Michael (who also trains) and one of the trainers Tyson (she really works you out!!) really care about your fitness goals and they do not yell at you like in real basic training! In addition to training, Shape Up gives you nutritional tips and also has their own newsletter that includes articles based around fitness/nutrition, as well as a healthy recipe that helps you to stay the course. I know when I get it in my inbox, it helps me to stay on track! The prices are in line with other studios but the personal attention they give goes far beyond many fitness places.

Spotlessly clean, lots of TV's, new and well maintained cardio equipment, a variety of classes, plenty of weights, bosu, personal trainers on staff, spa-like atmosphere, smoothie bar... etc... They even had a really nice holiday party for their members, with plenty of food and wine and a big raffle (prizes included a huge Lancome gift basket, membership credits, spray tan gift certificates, etc) and a fundraiser for one of their instructors husbands who was recently paralyzed. They are also a member of the IHRSA, so if your club participates you can work out at this club while traveling... without being a member.. simply paying the normal guest fee. As much as my mother would loooooove for me to move to North Carolina, (I'm from California) ... that's not happening.. ;-) However... if I did, I would consider becoming a member here. The classes I took could stand to be more intense (I took Zumba and Cardio Kickboxing and it was NOTHING compared to the intensity of California classes) but the facility and everyone involved is very nice.
