I have been a big fan of corned beef and pastrami for years but my go to is on the other side of the city not to far from Dearborn, there is a couple other delis in eastern market area, one I like and the other I think is outrageous and the people there are rude, well today I was in the mood for a good corned beef on rye, got looking at a few apps I have and I come across Champs which is in Gratiot Central market where I go to buy certain meats to grill and smoke, but I never have gone there to buy prepared food, well I'll tell you it was Very Good ! The place is simple ,it is clean, they have a cool old Ford truck in there well the have half of it but none the a nice place , and the lady that waited on me was very cool, I decided I wanted Pastrami Indian it was excellent the , it was not greasy which is what I like to see it was heated just right and got slaw on it and my bread wasn't a soggy mess, I thought the price point was very good for my sandwich which also came with 2 pickles that were good and my drink, And the info I read is this is a small business this isn't corporate owned this is someone or family doing it cause they love please try support small business they need it now more than ever , I thought it was very good I hope you do as well.

Inconsistent and disappointing. I've had good pizza from The Rectory before, but this experience…read morewas so bad that I wont be going back. I ordered two pizzas and breadsticks. The pepperoni was burnt, the dough was completely raw, and the pizza literally fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I spent $55 on carry-out and they even shorted me a side of ranch. I tried cooking the pizza at home, but there was no saving the slop they gave me. I emailed them about the experience 10 days ago and didn't even get a response. Charging $55 for pizzas this poorly made and then ignoring the customer afterward is unacceptable. Take some accountability! Go to Michigan and Trumbull or Grandma bobs if you want good pizza. Everything here is made from scratch and you can taste it...fresh, legit, and done right. The crew was laid-back, and one of the owners happened to be there. He shared his journey of bringing this place to the west side near Virginia Park/New Center. I ordered an omelet and it was excellent. Normally I don't trust breakfast potatoes--they're usually filler--but these converted me. Seasoned right, crispy edges, and I actually finished them. That says a lot. If you're in the area, J&T's Kitchen is worth checking out. Solid food, good people, and a real Detroit hustle.

Yes, cooking over charcoal does sometimes create that bark on one side of the meat but i love it. This place has had me in a chokehold for the past month, with me driving 30 mins each way to eat. I love it. I am a large end kind of guy and this place is the best i've had with only Vicky's coming in second. Once, the ribs were fatty but i doin't care. Every other time, they were delicious. Regarding the sides... This is where most BBQ joints struggle. The Coleslaw and potato salad are either off a Sysco truck or similar to Kroger prepared food. The green beans kind of remind me of the green beans you'd get if the church had a bbq dinner sale... not bad. The baked beans... not the best. When i order, i usually have some macaroni made at home and i always have a bag of cooked greens in the freezer. I live solo so i will make food, freeze it and have it along side their meat. I did not like the greens there but the potato salad and slaw, for what it is; unless you're going to be making it... boiling and peeling potatoes...dicing celery and belle pepper, this works :) I love this place AND the girls working are always EXTREMEMLY friendly. I always tip them- even though they never seem to expect it. I love this place and pray they never change.

I decided to go to Gold International Bakery after a friend's coworkers took her there and she said…read moreit was good. Gold International is a russian bakery found in a little row of stores, right off the Evergreen exit of I-696, that is the closest to little russia I've seen around Detroit thus far. There's also a cafe and a russian grocery store in the same complex. Interestingly the entrances to most of the stores are out of view from 10 mile road and there's actually a small enclosed walkway between the stores that would be great if half of the storefronts weren't empty... I guess I look a bit russian since as soon as I entered the tiny storefront I was bombareded with russian greetings. Luckily, at least one of the owners speak English. I came in for the bread rolls (filled with your choice of potato, meat, or cabbage) since my friend said they were good. I ordered one of each, which are about the size of a small sub roll. The owner offered to heat them up for me and I took her advice. Besides the rolls, there was a few other interesting looking bread items, but nothing was labeled so I decided to stick with the rolls. The selection was rather sparse but I perhaps that was due to the late sunday afternoon in which I stopped by the store. Anyway, back to the rolls. I took them home and quickly tried them. The filling in each roll was tasty and the bread was ok. They reminded me of the filled buns you can pick up at a chinese bakery. The only bad thing is that they were overly greasy. After eating them my stomach was hurting from the grease overdose. All in all, Gold International Bakery offers a niche product which I have not seen elsewhere and that's reason enough for me to give them a second chance.
