Reason for visit is cause I had a metal shard get in my eye cause I was doing some custom work to car, I was having issues with seeing, came to Dr. Carol Johnston office and spent not even 1min with her working on me and then she said done, I was like what you mean your done!! she removed the shard, rust, and gave anti drops and made me feel comfortable the whole time which by the way I was freaking out cause the ER put a needle in my eye so had a bad taste for it, which she didn't by the way, she has skills. However, some of the members of their office staff are incompetent and rude. The latest incident was a complete mishap with advice that I was given as to how to order my contact lenses utilizing my insurance. Today, the office manager told me, "I'm so sorry you were told that." I was 'told that' by a member of YOUR staff. Way to not take responsibility for the complete misinformation YOUR staff gave me. I have filed a formal grievance with my insurance. This is a constant issue with Family Eye Care - some members of their office staff are rude and incompetent and they refuse to take responsibility for that. To keep and maintain loyal clients, you'd think a medical office would take responsibility for what a patient was told.

Dr. Conekin was very kind and professional. He explained things in a way that was easy to understand and helped us determine a plan to keep our daughter's eyes healthy. He was patient with my daughter who was fidgety and talkative. There's a small area to purchase glasses. I did browse through the selection. I saw frames from $138-$500. They have interesting technology that let's them (and you) see the inside of your eye.

The most hurtful part is that the racist comments were directed at our children who are bi-racial. It is nearly impossible to make contact with the district manager. There is no corporate office so everything has to be done through the offending provider. Office staff manager lied repeatedly about the visit we had with them but fortunately, we recorded her lying, speaking over us while we tried to explain the situation, and we have the letter from the insurance company that contains her totally different statement than what she said on the phone. This woman and company are fraudulent. We are not dropping this and will pursue recourse via a lawyer in hopes that other families do not have to deal with that kind of treatment. At the end of my appointment after picking out my glasses I was told by the front desk lady that my insurance did not in fact cover my eye exam or glasses. I had no idea my insurance had changed, if I did I would not have made an appointment. They told me to call the number on the back on my insurance card so I did. It was a struggle considering my eyes were still dilated and I couldn't read my insurance card, I would've asked one of the nice ladies at the desk to help me but I was too embarrassed. After calling my insurance to find out I no longer had any coverage, I went up to the front desk to tell them I will have to sort out my insurance and come back at a later date to pay my bill. Eventually I get new insurance and go back to the eye dr. Apparently getting insurance after your unpaid visit will still not cover that visit, not the drs fault I know that but I am still getting more frustrated. I leave and come back a few days later with my boyfriend who paid my bill for me. I was very excited to finally get my glasses. We pay and I ask for my glasses and the front desk lady says there are no glasses ordered for me because of my unpaid bill. Understandable but also I have been in this eye doctor twice now trying to pay my bill for my glasses, all I want are the glasses I picked out. My bill was 120 without the glasses. I was very nice but I'm very upset. I know all of this frustration and confusion could have been avoided if the original front desk lady checked my insurance before sending back for a full eye exam and picking out glasses. Do NOT visit this place for an eye exam, it's such a scam and they're awful. I made an appointment…read morethinking there'd be an optometrist physically in the building, turns out it's all virtual. Never once did I speak to or see the optometrist. During my exam testing my right eye the eye chart was white and blurry, couldn't see any letters. I kept telling them this and they seemed like they didn't know what to do. Eventually they called my exam quits and said they couldn't continue because "something is wrong with your eye". They booked me an appointment with an in person optometrist 2 MONTHS out. If something was wrong I wouldn't be waiting 2 months. I ended up going an hour out of my way to New Bern to get a second opinion and they said nothing was wrong with my eyes. I'm perfectly healthy. It had to of been Stanton Opticals machine. I'm unbelievably pissed off with this place. You don't tell someone something is wrong with them before checking if your machines are working properly. Absolutely do not go here. It's a joke.
