Often controversial because local conservatives find the whole Body Piercing movement a little too much to deal with, and the shop sells things that some people think are 'nasty' - but I have purchased my Vans there (brand of footwear) every year for the past couple of years, and when I smoked I also would purchase my papers from Off Ya Tree. They sell books, magazines, posters, stuff about rock and roll, punk, emo and magazines about smoking dope, playing in bands and all that teenage angst sort of stuff. They have t-shirts and fashion accessories that are branded with Heavy Metal motifs and some punk genres, so yes for those who don't understand it is probably frightening. There are heaps of ear rings and studs and the little circles you use to grow the holes in your ear lobes if you are going for that rather popular Amazon jungle warrior look... body modification and experimentation is all the rage, so you know, get with the spirit or get over it. A skivvy or t-shirt with a bloodied face eating raw chook may not be your cup of tea, but it may just be the perfect gift for your gormless teenager listening to Black Veiled Brides in their room and coloring their hair black and navy blue! It's always being looked after by friendly staff, and yes they may have lots of tattoos and spikes coming out of their faces or super size ear rings, but don't let that scare you... generally they are a friendly bunch and only go on a brain eating zombie walk once a year, and that's just for fun anyway! Off Ya Tree is one of those places your teenagers would hate you to visit while they were in there, so why not pop in and check it out. read more

I wouldn't even give this place a star! The girl in there was deceiving me because I came in on a Friday night and they probably thought I was tipsy which wasent the deal at all! I can all the way from home which is an hour away. I paid for two piercings and a lighter for $27! I didn't even get the second piercing that I picked out! She made it seem like we were on the same page and I agreed. I got the receipt but very disappointed of how people can rip you off because they think so! read more

If you ever need a present for an angsty teenager, then this is your place. I say this because this is my go to place when looking for presents for my nephew, and it always makes me the worlds best aunt (though maybe not in my brothers eyes!). What can you expect in Off Ya Tree? Everything from body art, books, clothes, mags, toys on all the themes you'd expect, from heavy metal to emo punk. It's actually a surprisingly good shop to find little quirky gifts for people you have no idea what to buy for. When in doubt, go with humour. read more

As I really don't tend to travel down Hindley Street any more because it gives me the creeps, I totally forgot that Off Ya Tree existed, and now my life is complete again. I simply adore unique stores with a rough edge that could scare the pants off hipsters. It's simply filled with teenage hate and rebellion and I love it. There are hoards of not only band shirts but unique styling shirts which are very cool. There are also some pretty unique shoes and belts available for those who love to put a different edge to their fashion style. Some really good gift ideas for those music lovers are available also, such as puzzles and mugs. The people who work here may look a little creepy at times, but they are all generally very nice and eager to help. I wouldn't touch a tattoo needle down Hindley Street with a 10 foot pole, but if there was any place to do it I think that Off Ya Tree would be your best bet. read more

Since the the sale of weed paraphernalia became illegal, Off Ya Tree became a bit useless. You can buy goth clothing, terrible band t-shirts, piercings and strange tobacco accessories. It is out of the way as well, being on Hindley Street, so I really see no reason for going there. If you want any of these things there are much better shops down Rundle. For example, Midwest Trader for clothes and Hairhouse Warehouse for piercings. They do have a good range of weird smoking accessories, such as flavoured paper, but you can't buy any tobacco. I personally don't see the point to this shop. The only time I have been in here in the past few years is to say hello to my friend working there. read more

Off Ya Tree is an odd little shop, as I can't quite figure out what its focus is. They sell band T-shirts, accessories, water and tobacco pipes, piercings, and swords and knives. Let's just call it a variety store for the sake of avoiding confusion. They do piercings on site, and whilst I'm not too comfortable with the idea of getting a piercing whilst customers are browsing the store, it's handy if you need a quick piercing on the go (when these circumstances would arise, I will never know). J ust a little tip for you potheads - don't confidently waltz in there and ask for a bong, because you won't get one. They're called water pourers, and whilst they're slightly different, they're basically the same thing. If you give the store assistants any indication that you'll be using it to consume drugs, they won't sell it to you, as that's the condition of their sale. Now go enjoy your pot. read more

i was in there today to get a septum piercing, and it was amazing! my piercer was named matt and he was great! he made sure i was okay and ready before he started and every thing was nice and clean. lovey staff and really cheap. would 100% recommend to any one wanting a piercing read more

Dropped in few months back so my teen could get a belly piercing. Guy was super nice, friendly and made the whole process great. Rang a few weeks later to check the process for another piercing (nose and helix) and was told to come straight in. We got there a half hour later. Chick with badly dyed pink (or green, hard to remember) hair gave us major attitude. Super nasty remarks, plain unhelpful, kept repeating same sentence like I was some dumb idiot, and smirking incessantly. She also made no sense and kept changing her explanation for what we needed to do. Clearly had a bad day and taking it out on her customers. I wouldn't let her pierce my pet rock. Chick needs some communication training. We went elsewhere. Had a great experience at Essential Beauty Rundle Mall. Too bad, because the guy there is great, but if you get a grotty strung-out chick who thinks she's god's gift, run for your life. Two stars for the dude. read more

i love this store. good clothing, a range of products from hair dye to accessories. i have gotten all my piercings from here and have never had a problem with them. they are casual and professional, so it seems friendly. absolutely would recommend to anyone who is looking for piercings and different "emo" types of products. read more

Off Ya Tree has a $5 piercing plus the cost of jewerlly and aftercare deal going on. I had my septum done here, thinking I was lucky to have decided to get a piercing at such a good time, but I was wrong. It was clear and evident to anyone, even someone who didn't know about piercings, that it was pierced in the wrong place, the front cartilage and not the correct place, the fleshy skin in the nose, nicknamed the 'sweet spot'. I went back to ask what could be done about it after having another piercing shop confirm that it was indeed pierced in the wrong place. I was polite about it and asked the worker at the counter and she told me to come back to the shop later as the piercer was busy. I waited around instead and asked the piercer when she was no longer busy. I explained my problem and she stated that it was the correct placement for my nose as my cartilage was quite low and that the 'sweet spot' was nonexistent and made up from Tumblr. She also stated that if she pierced it higher into my nose, then the cartilage would have shattered. I've done months of research prior to getting my piercing and what she was saying was complete bull. I countered by saying that I had felt the inside of my nose and knew that she had missed that spot (the other piercing shop actually felt around for me, but I didn't say so as I didn't want to bag out anyone) and all she said was that my piercing was going to get infected. I didn't bother saying anymore and just thanked her and left the shop. Wouldn't recommend getting a piercing here from my experience. It could be that out of all piercings they've done, just mine was screwed up, but the thing is, they wouldn't accept the mistake and help me whatsoever. I returned to the other piercing shop to have it taken out and rebooked to have it repierced in 2 weeks time. read more
