We were listing our home for sale much sooner than anticipated." I received a call Monday morning saying they received my message and they could schedule us that day as they had just had a cancellation that was actually for our area. By 11:00 Am that day the service person, TJ came out and cleaned the AC compressor and gas insert and glass. I was thrilled when I saw how fabulous the fireplace looked. Thank you Colony Heating and Ac and Thank you TJ!

However, due to it being a Saturday, I was charged a $250 weekend service charge. The problem was that drifting snow had blocked the outflow pipe. While the technician was at my home, he received a call from my neighbor experiencing exactly the same thing. The technician advised him to clear his exhaust pipe. No charge. I did not object to the technician's service fee, but felt the weekend fee excessive, especially since my neighbor was treated fairly at NO CHARGE. Colony profited unreasonably and lost my business because of it. Dr. Sisson

I was doing a remodel on our home in Cedar Rapids IA and called 5 local heating and A/C companies -…read moreboth large and small operations. Eric came and was very informative and knowledgeable about what the house size would need and did not try and up-sell any expensive thermostats or any one particular type of furnace or A/C, but instead took the time to fully explain modern operation and controls and which one would qualify for Alliant rebates. Of the 5 bids Eric's bid was very competitive on price and he was able to schedule me in right away. My first impression of Eric is of a very trustable, dependable person. The bid was to replace furnace, A/C and water heater (Power vented gas) and install gas lines to stove and dryer. Installation to start 11/12 August 2020. A large storm moved through Cedar Rapids and knocked out power to the town for 8 days. Rescheduled for 27 Aug. Eric showed up at 0730 Thursday and Friday and with a helper, did the install. Looks good and works great. He took away all the old stuff and left the place very clean. Eric and his assistant were very nice to work with and I would recommend them to anyone as a competitive, competent HVAC / water heater source. Melinda is the contact person for the office and she is very quick to respond to phone calls or emails. The quote she sent was very clear and understandable. Some of the other contractor quotes I received were very limited on information so it was hard to determine from them what the charges were for. With Furnace Pro, I knew what I was paying for and Melinda was very pleasant to talk to about scheduling installation and any rebate / bill questions.

TL/DR Review: JP Plumbing & Heating is fantastic! They are actually willing to fix you furnace, or…read moreair conditioner, instead of just trying to sell you a new one. That can mean the difference between spending a few hundred dollars on a repair, or spending several thousand dollars on a whole new HVAC system. Unabridged Review: In order to understand what makes JP so special, you need to know a little about how the HVAC business works. Imagine if every auto mechanic primarily worked on one or two types of cars, but they didn't have a sign out front telling you which types they worked on. So, if you bring your Honda to a mechanic who works on Honda and Acura, he'll have all sorts of parts in stock, and he'll fix your Honda. If you bring that Honda to a mechanic who works on Toyota and Lexus, that mechanic has a choice. He can either order parts and try to fix a car he's not used to working on, or he can tell you your Honda is in bad enough shape that it's not worth fixing. Then, he can sell you a Toyota, make a lot more money on the sale in a lot less time than it would have taken to fix your Honda, and also make it so it's easier for him to fix your car next time. That's exactly how most HVAC companies work. If your system is made by York, and the company you call primarily sells Goodman and Trane, they're typically not going to order a York part for an HVAC unit they don't typically work on, and then have you get angry it's taking so long for the part to get there, when they can make a lot more money selling you a new Goodman or Trane furnace and condenser that they will always have parts for. I don't blame them. I understand why they do it. I just don't want to pay $6,000 for a new HVAC unit when I could have paid $300 for someone to diagnose the problem, and replace a part that probably costs $25-$50. That's where JP Plumbing & Heating comes in. My wife first discovered them after one HVAC company had told me my problem was my thermostat (it wasn't), and quoted me something like $1,200 for a new thermostat, three new filters, and way more labor than a thermostat requires. Then, another company told me my entire HVAC system needed to be replaced. JP sent a tech out. He examined the furnace, and determined that the flame sensors were malfunctioning because they were covered in rust. He spent a couple hours scraping the rust off, and the flame sensors have worked great ever since. This was two or three years ago. We called JP again this past Wednesday afternoon, because the furnace kept kicking on and off randomly. We figured the flame sensors might have rusted again. JP sent a technician out early the next morning (yesterday). He determined that the problem was a broken pressure switch, and he had it fixed in probably less than an hour. So, I have called JP for two separate things, and they were able to fix those things both times, instead of selling me a new HVAC unit. If you want to spend thousands of dollars on a new HVAC set-up, then definitely do that, but don't spend thousands of dollars on a new unit because you called the wrong HVAC repair company. Call JP instead.

Normally I don't even say anything about businesses that I had poor service with but this is…read moreridiculous and dont want anyone to go through this too. I highly DONT recommend using Areguin Heating and Cooling. We called and asked for a QUOTE. When they showed up a few days later (which we were understanding about the wait with it being summer and lots of units needing work) it was 2 guys. They called my husband Cory saying they were 10-15 minutes away, Cory went outside to wait for them, but then they ended up sitting in their truck for another 10 minutes and got out laughing. One was an older guy who didn't speak any English at all and a younger guy who hardly spoke English. Which wouldn't be much of an issue either but it gets worse. Cory took the younger guy down to the basement to check out the furnace, the kid couldn't even figure out how to get the lid off of it and kept tapping it. So then Cory took the lid off and showed him that the filter was brand new and then Cory put it back and put the lid back on. Then they go outside to the unit. The two guys talk to each other (just talking and laughing in Spanish not communicating with Cory at all) and went to their truck, got a part, and started working on our unit. When Cory asked what they were replacing and what it was going to cost (again, no quote was given and we weren't even told what they were doing before they started working on it.) the kid told Cory that they don't do numbers and then kept tapping his head saying "English is hard" and finally said it was a capacitor and said the one that was in our unit was a 5.0 and literally said they replaced it with a 7.5 because it would do better at cooling our house off. Then they literally just left. Didn't check to make sure anything worked or anything. Just left. After they left we turned our unit back on, and the fan was going the wrong way and the unit was making weird noises that it never made before. After an hour we realized the temperature in our house was just rising. Cory went to check on the unit and it was extremely loud and the fan was spinning weird and slow. Then Cory came back in and checked the thermostat and it was blinking at him. So he turned the central air off using the thermostat. Then when he went to turn it back on, it wouldnt turn on. So Cory went down to the basement to check the breaker and saw it had blown and turned it back on just for it to blow again after not even a minute of him messing with it. And it just kept blowing every time he tried to turn it on so we left it off and called. Cory called a total of 10 times. Called twice the day of, July 10th, and then called right away at 8am when they opened and it took him called 4 times in a row to get an answer. So he told the lady on the phone everything and she said the owner was out in the field working so he would call when he could. Then we figured out the motor was blown in our unit. So Cory called again and they literally ignored his calls and sent him straight to voicemail until he called from my phone. Then the lady answered. He asked her if she had gotten ahold of him yet and she said she hadn't tried contacting him yet. So Cory told her that were pretty sure our motor is now blown after they worked on it and that we needed him to call us. She then said she would try again. (After saying she hadn't tried to contact him yet) this was after hours of waiting. Then after a bit Cory text the number saying that if we don't get any kind of response that we will contact the better business bureau and contacting who we need to for the Iowa Homeowner Protective Act. Literally finally got a call back minutes after sending that text from the owner, who then proceeded to tell Cory that they couldn't of caused that and for us to give the younger guy a break because he was 2 weeks new. Like what? We are paying for a service to be done and to be done right. If they don't know what they are doing they shouldn't even be out working! Then tried saying that they would replace our motor for $600something and said we should just get a new unit because ours is old, said it was 2 centuries old. Even though when Cory bought the house, he paid for 3 inspections for the house and they told him it was 5 years old, so now it's only 7 years old, so that's not true. Even the guy who came, not last year but the year before, through the same company, said it was a fairly new unit and was in good shape. So not only are they not admitting to anything they did wrong, the owner never even bothered to come look at the work the other kid did and is just taking the kids word for it on everything. Including the age of our unit. So yeah. Definitely do NOT recommend.
