Quick service, clean cinema and with decent size screens which is why it gets four stars. The only thing that lets this particular cinema down (and to be fair, all cinemas) is the price of its food.
You pay around £10 for two tickets to watch a film. This is good value for money, especially when you consider it costs half that much to rent a DVD from Blockbusters. So, for a little bit extra cash (ok, it's double the price, but we're only talking pocket change) than it costs to rent a film, two of you can go out and get the real experience at a cinema. That's great.
But hang on, when have you ever been to the cinema and just paid for your tickets, watched the film and left? In reality, you get to the cinema, buy the tickets and then get something from the food stalls. Whether it be an ice-cream, large drink, packet of sweets, pick-n-mix or pop-corn, we all spend extra on food and drink - and the price of food and drink at Odeon is outrageous.
Those of us who regularly use motorway service stations are always complaining about the over inflated prices they charge due to their monopoly of that local market, and quite rightly so. But when you go to the cinema, it's even worse. I went there, bought some Nachos, a packet of Malteasers, large drink and an ice-cream (this was to share!) and ended up spending more than £20 just on food!
So, when you go to the cinema, be aware that the film might only cost you £10, but the whole 'experience for two' is actually closer to £40 and I haven't even mentioned parking and travelling expenses. :( read more
