Depending on where you live in Cardiff the Showcase cinema in Nantgarw can often be a good…read morealternative to the cinemas in town and the Bay. You generally avoid the worst of the traffic, parking's free and convenient, and it's particularly great if you just want to see a film as aside from Frankie & Bennys, Nandos, and a bowling alley there really isn't much there (both the Bay and town can get so manic). Excluding Chapter the cinema itself isn't really as modern as the other cinemas in Cardiff, but it's perfectly adequate. There are twelve screens so there's always lots of choice, and even better they're all on one level. On the negative side queues for both food and tickets can be pretty bad here, Orange Wednesdays in particular are absolutely horrendous. Also the food prices are the worst in Cardiff and the portion sizes are ridiculously small.

Showcase is a cinema based in Treforest Industrial Estate in Park Nantgarw…read more Showcase does a great service to those in the surrounding area and shows all the latest film releases that hit the silver screen. Also, as it's situated next to a bowling alley and just across the road from a Nando's and Frankie and Benny's restaurant, it provides the opportunity for a great day/night out for all ages. However, as cinemas go, this one is far from revolutionary. Each screen has modest seating compared with other cinemas in the surrounding area and the cleanliness of the cinema as a whole leaves a lot to be desired, with the flooring often being stickier than a marmite covered stick. A good facility for those who live nearby, but with cinemas like Cardiff's Odeon and Cineworld setting the bar very high, there are better options available.

With that into consideration, I suppose I can't really complain about how convenient is. After all, it is in a fantastic location right in the Cwmbran Shopping Centre. However, there are negative bits. ~ Location: As mentioned before, the location is fantastic. It is just in the Cwmbran Shopping Centre, so it could make for a pretty full trip out. There's plenty of restaurants and shopping to do nearby, so when heading to the cinema, you can quite easily make a day of it. ~ Customer Service: I've had no problems with the customer service here. Everyone I've interacted with has been very friendly and welcoming. The main reason why I'm not a huge fan is purely because the size of the place is extremely lackluster. This cinema is very limited in terms of what films are shown and sometimes there would even be very popular films you are keen to see, but not shown at all so you have to head elsewhere. For instance, I wanted to watch How to Train Your Dragon 2, which you would think would be quite popular with kids especially, but Vue just completely neglected to have it on schedule. Instead, they opted for really obscure features such as random recordings of theatre performances. If you're planning to make a trip to the cinema with a specific film in mind, I highly recommend checking out the Vue website for Cwmbran specifically just to make sure it's showing. Otherwise, you might be in for a very disappointing surprise!

We have always been welcomed by the volunteers who run the cinema and hall and really appreciate the service that they provide, my father, 2 daughters, wife and occasional friend I take with me would not dream of going anywhere else even though it's twice the distance of the cinemas in Swansea. The one annoying feature of the cinema is not with the organisers but with some of the visitors who with blatantly drop their rubbish on the floors between the seats when there are easily accessed bins in the same room. If you want a relaxed and very enjoyable atmosphere then pay a visit to Brynamman - they even have ice cream/sweet ladies!! A top of the range night out and there's a chip shop a few yards away for after the film. Lovely people, lovely environment as well as so many other wonderful and timeless qualities which are sadly lacking in today's society.

The hall was opened in 1926 with funds from the Coal Board & contributions from the people. It is one of Wales's oldest independent cinemas. The hall not only shows films, I went to watch the Christmas Pantomime there this week, The scenery and performance was brilliant. They show all the top films, run by locals for the locals. Imagine a Hogwarts by the sea, and you're mostly there. They offer a large bar area with outstanding views, a gallery and cinema, and theatrical and musical performances go on in the traditional Tythe Barn. This is also the venue for the critically acclaimed Beyond the Border storytelling festival, which takes place every year. Although this venue is small, the staff are friendly and eager to please, and the regular clientele are an amazing mix of locals. The only downside to the centre is its distance from most major areas. But it is certainly well worth the trip, just make sure you check out their website before going down, as there are not events happening each day, and you certainly don't want to turn up and be disappointed!
