Well isn't this just a cute little cutie mc cute cute of a place? Mah bestie made an appointment for us to get our long awaited cheesy BFF tattoos while I was in town for a visit, and I guess Sarah is her girl, soooo- went with it ‍. The studio is set up in a lil house in a cute neighborhood. The space inside is open and the walls are covered from floor to ceiling in flash work. There are some old style wooden theater seats in the lobby, and free stickers and lollipops on the counter. Who doesn't love free stickers and lollies? ...exactly. Get em. And water. Man I went to that water station like 20x. And it was good. Stay hydrated, folks! And let's just talk about the bathroom for a sec, k? I know you're curious. ...there's a wall of mirror. So when you're peeing, you can watch yourself. And I was like, ummmmm, where do I look? Well at myself, I guess. Because, even though that's weird AF, I couldn't not? And then to take it a step further, I had to take a photo of it? Like I couldn't just be a normal human being and think to myself "oh cool, a big mirror in the shitter room", I had to watch myself pee, take a picture of it, and then post it online. And now here I am. Anyways. Sarah drew up our tattoos quickly with great communication. Her work station was clean, we listened to enya, which is PERFECTLY OKAY PEOPLE, and we chatted about feminism and racism and all that stuff that people get all uptight and offended over. And when I say we, I mean her and my best friend. Because I was being a baby and just laying there like a sack of potatoes. But I listened. The tattoo turned out cute. I'm into it. I went here over a month ago and Henry told me somehow the tattoo would "fix itself". It has not. The lines are very uneven and looks like a child did it still for $140. Not worth it at all. I called and told them I was moving out of town and they still told me I could come into the shop later after it "healed" all the way. Well it's all healed and did not fix itself, never heard of that and I have other tattoos. I do not recommend this place and would advise strongly against going to Henry... not good. read more

Both my fiancee have gotten tattoos here and are really impressed with both of our pieces. My fiancee found the shop first and then recommended me to get my piece done by Sarah. I met with her and talked to her about my idea (samurai pug). Showed her some ideas of pugs and what not. She then scheduled me in the following week. When I came in she had it drawn up and at first I was a little shocked. It wasn't what I was exactly expecting and I think it was a little bigger then I thought to. I asked her if we could change anything and she was super nice and patient. She said we could change stuff but it would take time to redraw, etc. In the end I decided that I did like it and that I wanted to stick with the original. I'm so glad I did. I LOVE my tattoo!!! It is probably my favorite out of all my tattoos. Sarah put so much time into it too, I was really grateful for all she did! The whole staff is super cool, and they are always friendly. Okay got a tattoo here quite different from the original design but whatever. The Ink is extremely crisp and dark and hasn't faded at all, so there's a great part. However, well over the estimated cost and honestly not worth it. Very expensive. Don't love the tattoo and it was my first on my 18th b-day! Kind of a bummer. Lol and the lines are so thin??? Oh boy. Where to start? To be fair, my tattoo design was large and boring. However, Jeff took a break about 45 minutes into my appointment, and when he came back he was red-eyed and spacy. The music in the studio was loud, definitely not relaxing, and it was a very male atmosphere. I felt uncomfortable and out-of-place. I never went back, and I never will. I've seen Oddball art on other people, and it is very good ... but my experience was so weird that it's not worth trying a second time with them. read more

I went in and got a small tattoo with my friend and was told it would be $100-$130 based off of how big the tattoo was. I went to Henry because he said he could do it but got charged $140 and I'm telling you, this tattoo is sooo small. The lines are very uneven on and and there are random dots all within the small moon I got. He clearly messed up and just didn't say anything to me about it because it looks like a 6 year old drew the lines... I would not recommend this place to anyone I know. I have other tattoos and have loved the places I have been in the past but I would never recommend this place to be honest. read more

After musing over the idea of a tattoo for years, and investigating several studios both in the Bay Area & Portland, I walked into Oddball last week, plunked down a deposit & made an appointment. I'm glad I did & could not be happier with the results! I got a small number within an oval tattooed to the inside of my wrist by Jeff who drew the design right up when I told him what I wanted. He took a long time figuring out the exact right placement so it would hold the ink well & so the lines wouldn't appear 'wavy' in a way they sometimes do with parts of the body that move a lot (like hands). He set things up in such a way & with such an amazing amount of detailed care that I think he did a better job with setup than many MDs I've witnessed in L&D rooms (sorry, but it's true...). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jeff & Oddball! Now I just have to convince the 3 Musk-A-Teers that I waited a looooonnnnng time before putting ink to flesh, and NO, they cannot get tattoos now! I took a small trip to Portland a few weeks ago and wanted to get something done by a great artist while I was there. Oddball was recommended by several locals so how could they be wrong. Well they weren't! I was skeptical since I had been to several places in the area and nothing impressed me. As soon as I walked into Oddball I knew I wanted to get my tat done there(and not because they have awesome air conditioning when its 100 degrees out). Everyone there was very helpful and friendly. All the work I saw there was amazing and my tat was done by Dave. He was a sweetheart and did exactly what I wanted and more. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. All of the portfolios were pretty impressive and I heard some good things, so I decided to get my 30th bday tattoo done. When I pitched my idea, everyone seemed pretty excited about it, and all I had to do was pick an artist. Jeff did an amazing job! My only complaint, and the reason for the docked star, is that he didn't stick to his appointment times. Both sessions got started about 45 minutes late. If you've got the afternoon to hang out, then its not an issue. I'm just a little OCD about being on time. But the work is absolutely incredible and I'd definitely go back. All the guys at the shop are pretty hilarious, and the stuff I've seen looks really great. Check em out! read more

I guess you could say I have become a bit of an Oddball fan boiii. I have been tattoo'd through california, and a couple shops in portland. Good art now days really isn't entirely difficult to find. You end up paying for the experience. And you get a great one here. No shop drama. Everyone is friends. They don't talk trash on other shops in the area. All in all a great experience. Yes. The art is absolutely impecable, and second to none. They all offer something entirely different too. It is not a shop where everyone is really good and they are all good with one style. They have all developed their own very unique styles that you can only get there. Now, I find myself driving up from San Diego (I am not exaggerating) just to get tattoo'd by David. RULES! It's so nice to go to a tattoo shop where everyone is friends, and helping/complimenting each other's work and where the creative vibe flows freely through the place. At one point I was the only girl there with like 6 guys in the room and not once did I feel uncomfortable or awkward! It was fun and I got to hear a buncha funny stories! (I was in a situation like this in a tattoo/piercing shop in L.A. once and let me tell ya, I couldn't wait to get away from those creepers!) All of these guys are definitely part of the upper crust of a tattoo community that is incredibly competitive. Portland has an abundance of tattoo shops. Yet there are only a small handful that stick out as the cream of the crop. Oddball is definitely part of that elite group. I have had about a dozen tattoos done by Mike at Oddball. Getting tattooed by Mike is an experience. He's going to tell you stories, make you laugh, and try to get you to tell goofy stories about yourself. The key is he wants you to be comfortable and to be happy with your tattoo. The shop space is nice. It's inviting and you get a feel for what they are into. They all have their specialties yet are eclectic and skilled enough to handle whatever you bring them. They also pay their respects to the traditions of the greats that came before them. Mike especially. He has a keen eye for reworking the foundation of American tattoo tradition. But, can do most anything and do it well. If you're in the market for a tattoo, stop by Oddball. With the proliferation of tattoo shops in PDX in can be hard to know what's what. I discovered Oddball and my artist Adam Craven via referral from another tattooer I'd worked with in CA. Long story short, this place is real deal and Adam is a gem. From the consultation on everything was professional and well executed. The staff is friendly, the music is great, and everything is clean and well decorated (all the way down to the bathroom). With minimal direction from me, Adam created a custom piece that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Literally. So if you're looking for quality you can stop because you've found it. Can't wait to go back for more work! NOTE: Photos depict a half-sleeve done in two sittings totaling about 10 hours. It's a memorial tattoo for my pops and content is highly personal. I just got my first tattoo at Oddball yesterday, and I would recommend them to anybody. I didn't have an appointment; dropped in earlier in the day, and was able to get one with Sarah a few hours later. I can't say for sure if this is something you should expect, as I know many artists can be booked out pretty far in advance, but I was really happy they were able to fit me in. Most importantly, Sarah did an amazing job on the tattoo. She took her time getting the placement down, which I really appreciated. My tattoo required quite a bit of straight line work, and i could tell she was very focused on the work as she did it. I knew it was going to look great when it was done, and I was not disappointed. My new tatt looks amazing, and already healing great. On top of this, nice SE location, cool house (literally, it was pretty hot outside, and so wonderfully cool inside), very clean, great music to chill to and everybody seemed nice. I don't think you can really go wrong with Oddball. It was a great experience, and I definitely recommend it to anybody looking to get their first (or one hundredth) tattoo! read more

I had some experience with Adam when he sat in over at Atlas Tattoo in NE, so when I was looking for another piece I wanted to try out the home base with some other artists at Oddball. Sat with David for a 3hr duel roses upper arm piece. Great experience, everyone was super chill and shop had an awesome vibe to it. You pay for what you get and I had no problem being ready to pay for the quality I received, so if you're looking for great work have that in mind. David took his time in making sure the rose colors we were looking for were spot-on and composition was solid. Already looking to have another appointment lined up here in the near future! These guys are great! I have had two walk-ins done by Henry at Oddball. The majority of my tattoos have been done by two other people that I know well, trust and feel extremely comfortable with. It's hard to let just anyone put something permanent and meaningful on your body. This is the place to go!!! Everyone is friendly and professional, and the shop atmosphere is laid back and welcoming! There isn't that pretentious vibe that some shops have. If you're looking for a walk-in these guys will gladly fit you in if they have time. Henry is awesome and did my work during breaks in his schedule twice, and both tattoos turned out perfect! He has a really steady hand, and he understood exactly what I was asking for. He works fast and clean! My friend Ryan and I both wanted walk-ins and he had great work done by Adam at the same time. read more

Got my one and only tattoo years ago at Oddball. Pretty sure they were then on Burnside. My daughter then a teen, dared me to do it. I told her OK but I said, no butterflies, no daisies, no fairies, no dude's name on my ankle. I might be a middle aged mom, but I'd get it right on my arm. Well I have to respect the idea that the tattoo artist is indeed the artist, not me, and my vision may not be 100% realized. So there were some differences. This is actually OK with me. Flexibility is cool... I believe this was Jacob. It says "since '49" as I was homesick for California (1849 est.) How many people thought a tattoo was a mistake. NEVER! And my now adult daughter is pretty much covered with tattoos! I am glad she dared me to do it. read more

fantastic art work done here, not gonna lie. but the some of the practices and happenings going on here are a tad questionable. called in ahead with a friend to see if they had any openings for walk-ins, which they did, so we show up. brief consultation, yadiyadiyada, the usual tattoo prep steps... and then it got weird. my tattoo was simple enough, a quote on my inner bicep done in typewriter font, so i'm lying down, and bzzzzz, first dot drawn, and then in walks in this guy who says he's about to head out of town, and my artist gets up and goes into the back room for the next 30 mins while i'm lying there with a tiny dot tattooed on my arm. great... and then when he comes back, he's all sniffly. really? like the skills here, but man, put a little ethic behind your practice. read more

Went in today to find out what the special was for the infamous Friday the 13th tattoo holiday. It was pretty much cleared out and had 4 sheets of paper taped to a counter with shotty work and prices varying from $60-$180 and no color. This was called a "Friday the 13th" special...clearly this was nothing special. Way to lose an excited patron that had a yearly tradition. read more

Went in with a photo of a tattoo that I wanted and immediately was told that the other artist's work was shotty and that they wouldn't be able to tattoo such small drawings. David, the artist, was completely unresponsive to me asking to stay as true to the photo and ended up rudely returning my photo and deposit in the shop. I would have appreciated some more respect and not to be treated like a child. It was the second time I've been there and I'm sad to have given them any more business. I recommend going somewhere where the artist isn't so full of themselves and are willing to listen a bit to the customers. I didn't appreciate all of the judgement from David and his fellow artists. I can't stand when tattoo paroles treat people this way. I would recommend going to Atlas and just getting on their calendar. It's worth the wait! read more
