Odd Bird Brewing is one of those NJ breweries you might have never heard of (especially if you live far away like I do), but it's absolutely worth the trip. Definitely a 5 star, elite level brewery in a surprising location. Drive along Rt. 29 through the historic Delaware River Towns, and you'll find Odd Bird blending in with its active gas station neighbor (all one building) in tiny Stockton, NJ. I've been to a lot of breweries in NJ, and I've come to recognize certain traits that belong to top tier breweries: 1. They don't offer flights. I've read that serious brewers don't like offering flights as it is difficult to fully appreciate a beer when poured in 4 ounces and paired with several other beers at once. 2. No flavored seltzers. They're trying to make the best beer possible and not just appeal to everyone. 3. They collab with other top tier breweries. They currently have a cask ale on tap that they collab with Tonewood and Alternate Ending which are both amazing breweries in their own right. My girlfriend and I made the trip on a Saturday in March. We arrived around 2, and by 3 the place was packed. The taplist consists of ten beers that are all extremely varied and excellently made. The requisite pale ale and IPA are on offer, of course, but you'll also find a Japanese rice lager, a Polish-style oak smoked lager, a grisette saison, an ale brewed with red wine grapes, a mild ale on nitro, and the aforementioned cask ale with a hand pulled beer engine originally from a 1970's pub in the UK. Finding any one of these fringe styles of beer at a brewery would be cause for the average beer nerd to rejoice, but all of them under one roof?! And all of them excellent and in a beautifully decorated, repurposed building with tons of natural light plus outdoor beer garden on the side and incredibly friendly and cheerful staff?! Pretty amazing. We live over an hour away but definitely hope to come back sometime to see what else they come up with. read more

I went when they had there cask day. It was busy. But the service was still great staff handled the volume of customers fantastic. The selection of beers are good as well it's not to much of one style or the there. They don't over charge you and you really get what you pay for. STOCKTON: Odd Bird Brewing has a great name and lives up to it by having a location in a former auto garage and is neighbors with the Eagle Gas Station. They also have an excellent tap list and we loved the Obscured by Clouds belgian-style witbier and the unique House Red, an ale brewed with Lambrusco Grapes, and there are 8 more varieties on tap. Leashed and friendly dogs are allowed at their outdoor patio year round and weather permitting, and is covered by a tent for shade. Visit with a friend so someone can go inside to order while the other can watch the pup outside. You can bring your own food and keep up to date on events by following them on social media! There is parking onsite and across the street and be sure to check their website for current hours. read more

A coworker turned me on to this cool brewery and kindly brought back 2 sours for me to try. I was tempted to review based on the quality of those but decided a visit was needed. The same person alerted us to the recent sour Saturday event and that was the catalyst for the trip here. Normally flights are not offered, but you can do small 7 oz pours to taste what's available. On this day 2 flights were offered based on the sours. The first was Charm( a plain or golden sour) cherry and the newest peach. The second flight was based on Chirp, a lighter sour that is good on its own, or flavored syrups are added to. We enjoyed both, the syrups are not sweet but added color and a slight taste to the Chirp. I think I liked the green Woodruff one best. We only had room for a few other tastes, the current IPA and a Belgian style saison, both good too. I joked with some friends that this is a biker brewery, as in bicycles! It's so close to the canal path that many seem to end their rides here. Although small inside, there's a great outdoor area complete with ice water jug to help yourself to. Dogs are allowed outside too! It was a little too busy for me to strike up a conversation with the owners whom I've heard are great. I look forward to more visits here as the tap list and seasons change, 4.5 stars for now. read more

Updated after third visit. It was always a breeze of fresh air to visit Odd Bird Brewing. It is a brewery, not a bar, so expect to taste their proudly-served beer selections. Space is very clean, well-maintained and decorated. I like the garage door and outdoor seating during warmer days. Among favorites are Amber lager, ale and Belgium saison, to name a few. Sometimes crowlers to go are vey limited, so great tastes and memories need to be left behind. read more

I was doing the Winter/ Spring brew hopping and The Odd Bird Brewing was on my list to try. Once you go to one you have them stamp the booklet. Finish all 7 breweries by June 30th and you will receive a free mug. This place is definitely worth giving a try. There's a nice selection of beers whether it be sours, ales , or IPA's. The Old Bird Brewing does a really nice job with their beers. This place is unique because attached to the brewery is The Eagle Gas Station. You can park in any spot in front of the Eagle Gas Station, or at the Stockton Park or Prallsville Mill and walk via the Tow Path. The brewery itself, uses garage doors that open up into a room where you can purchase the beers or crowlers and then either sit inside, or go outside in the big tent that's attached. There is no food served here other then a few snacks like potato chips. You can order food and have it brought in or delivered. The staff is really nice and friendly. This is a family run business. The head brewer and owner Adam along with his wife, Karen do a great job in making everyone feel welcomed. I tried the One Odd Year 22- it was really good and sold out quickly. Monstrous Mad Beloved- it's a barrel cranberry sour. This too was really delicious. I love sour beers. I would suggest giving The Odd Bird Brewing a try. read more

Yay, Odd Bird! We stopped at three different breweries on our bike tour of the Delaware River, and my favorite beer of the day was the Berliner Weiss at Odd Bird. Odd Bird was is delicious and unsuspecting brewery in Stockton, NJ, and perfect for a top on a recent bike trip down the nearby Delaware River Canal Trail. We were drawn to this converted gas station spot while planning a day of biking because of it's proximity to the trail and their adorable merch. Yes - they have a unisex purple tee. My boyfriend has been seeking a purple brewery shirt for months, but every other place either didn't have them or only made them in women's cuts. Odd Bird had one on their Instagram page, so of course we had to stop in for a pint...and a shirt. Unfortunately, the shirts were sold out in his size. Fortunately, the beer and atmosphere made up for it! I love the long wooden tables, the covered outdoor seating, and the feeling of community. I tried the Berliner Weiss and the Mumbletypeg, a Tavern Stout. There are lots of low- to mid-range ABV selections, which I appreciate. The Berliner Weiss was incredible - it was apple-y and refreshing, and I could sip it all day! A great summer beer. The Tavern Stout was really smooth and light - big fan! The bummer of Odd Bird, and every other brewery in NJ, is their limitations on food and non-beer beverages. My family member is gluten-free, so unfortunately, her visit to Odd Bird hinged on her bottle of water. I don't fault Odd Bird though, they're just trying to follow the rules. who would have thought that you would pull up to fill your tank and find a cute little brewery off a beaten path. First off the staff were so nice and knowledgeable. They had a great little outside tent set up for outside seating, with some inside options as well. In a world of IPAs, it was refreshing (pun intended) to find a diverse tap list that included lagers, esb, kolsh, berliner and a stout (unfortunately the smoked helles just tapped before we got there). All the beers were solid, the ESB was one of the best I have had. I 100 percent recommend checking this spot out. read more

Weird hours for this one so plan accordingly! We happened to be traveling by between the hours of 4-7pm so we dropped in to taste some beers. I believe the smallest pours were 6 oz so I had two of those. The mumbletypig stout was my favorite, a lighter stout perfect for the summer weather. Yes I drink stouts in the summer. Unfortunately the two other beers I wanted to sample had ran out. Oh well! Add a friendly staff, outdoor tasting spot, and perfect weather, and you have a 5 star experience. read more

Odd Bird Brewing was the 108th brewery that I have visited in NJ, and I am going to all of them. They are located in part of a charming old gas station in one of the most beautiful parts of New Jersey, right along the Delaware River near Lambertville. That makes them comparable with Core3Brewery, which is the other brewery in NJ built inside a gas station building. The atmosphere works! Despite being a new brewery, their IPA's and the stout I tried tasted as if the brewery had been open much longer. They had a mature taste to them. I have certainly visited many new breweries in the state, where the beer needed improvement, but that's not the case here. The owner has experience brewing on another brewery's equipment before, as well as many years of home brewing experience. Maybe that's why. So, it's a good brewery for IPA's. If you would like beer to go, they sell crowlers. They just don't fill growlers because of quality control. But crowlers, which is a 32 oz can that they fill for you, will stay fresher longer. Currently all of their seating is outside under a medium-sized tent. You order from the window. The owners manage the seating really well and have everybody spaced out. You need to wear a mask when walking around and ordering, just not while enjoying their great beers. Odd Bird definitely appreciated my business, and that is very important to me. read more

We picked a beautiful sunny fall Saturday to visit, which made it perfect even if the beer wasn't great. (but it was!) Even on a different day i would still give Odd Bird high marks. What stood out to me is the selection of styles. Not IPA dominated. Only small brewery I've been to that brews a Berliner Weiss with two syrup options. (Many of you will not even know what I'm talking about) We also enjoyed their Brown Ale which I thought ranks right up their with Newcastle, if not better. The Belgian Triple was good too. We brought home two crowler cans. I liked the quirkiness of the brewery being in a converted gas station garage. That makes them unique. I'd like to think that if i had been able to persue my beer passion, my brewery would be similar to this one. We got lucky with parking, but check their website for parking suggestions. Even if you have to walk it's worth it. The owners were very friendly, accommodating, and working hard pouring beer. Not only will I return, I can't see myself driving on Route 29 without stopping in. I will definitely return. read more

Friendly, upbeat, casual, small brewery in beautiful Stockton, NJ (located just off the Delaware River bike path). Owners Adam and Karen instantly make you feel welcome, and the beer selection is ALWAYS exceptional. Brewmeister Adam seems to live by the ABC philosophy (Always Be Creating)... We have a hard time keeping up with all the new varieties that Odd Bird seems to continually introduce, which is one of the many great things about this place that my wife and I love. We live just a short bike ride away, and feel exceptionally lucky to have Odd Bird in our neighborhood. (We were so bummed when River Horse moved out of Lambertville, and Odd Bird has most definitely filled that empty void). Adam is a passionate brewer through and through and really enjoys his craft. And Karen is, simply put... delightful. We always feel welcome here. Make sure to try whichever cask beer they are featuring; pure Euro pub-style, and always well worth trying. My favorite go-to beer is their Oddsbodikins, an amber red lager (and this is admittedly coming from a steadfast IPA lover!). I guess it's the constant variety of new and interesting beer introductions that always compels my wife and I to try something new with every visit (and we are seldom disappointed). And isn't that what any good brewer ultimately strives for? To always be creating, experimenting and reaching for that new and exciting beer experience?? Check em out; you won't be disappointed.
