Super nice people. Got me set up with a Co2 tank for my planted aquarium. Was kind enough to listen to me talk about my fish tank even though that's not at all what they deal with haha Standard co2 tanks will fit a standard regulator with solenoid valve if that's what you're looking for. Buying a new tank was about $110 but it'll only be $19 for the refill and I imagine this tank will last me at LEAST 6 months, maybe as long as 12. read more

Yeah, this place has a good selection for all sorts of home brewing. However, I will never shop here again because of the rude and sexist treatment I've gotten. The first time I went in, I bought a kit and ingredients for one batch of beer. I told the sales guy that I had brewed before in college with friends and this was my first time doing it alone. He kept asking questions about what "he" knows and what type of beer "he" wants. I'm female. He just assumed that there was going to be a guy helping me. I ignored it that time. I went back a second time with my mom to buy a second ingredient kit. All of the salesmen were busy so I waited at the counter. A man walked in and two salesmen stopped what they were doing to help him, even though I had been waiting. My mom said to the remaining salesman "what are we invisible?" and he replied "are you two just hanging out or what?" I said no and asked him for a price. He looked it up for me then walked away. I had to yell into the back room "Can I buy it?" Someone finally came over to help me but again kept asking questions about "his" knowledge and "his" abilities. I had to emphasize that "I" know what I'm doing, etc. I am appalled by how these three men treated my mother and me. I will never go back to this store again. I called to talk to a manager and was never called back. --- Jason from Keystone just commented (5+ months later) to say that he called to apologize. He did call my mom after I posted this, but I was still never called back. Instead of commenting on my review to say that other customers would disagree with me, he could have admitted his employee's mistakes and apologized to me. read more

I am extremely fortunate to live within walking distance of Keystone Homebrew Supply. My husband and I know we have other options in the region as well as online, but given the knowledge, friendliness, and convenience, Keystone is our exclusive source for brewing supplies. I first starting shopping at Keystone when they were in their old store, and in fact initially visited to buy my husband his first brewing kit. The staff has always been available to assist me and I don't feel that I'm ever ignored based on the fact that I'm a woman. I believe I get the same solid service as everyone else. Once my husband started brewing with the kit I gave him, I ultimately decided to get in on the action. Since then I have visited Keystone countless times for supplies and advice. I find their selection to be unmatched and their staff (either individually or in collaboration) to be able to answer any question I have. The new store has a very wide selection and it's such a nice space that you really feel encouraged to browse and look at the supplies they have for other fermentation-based hobbying. They also have sampling taps so if you're on the fence about what to brew, tasting a particular style of beer might help guide your decision. I think you can go into Keystone with any level of knowledge (even no knowledge and just the desire to learn) and ultimately gather the supplies and know-how to brew a decent beer. They cater to everyone from the expert home brewer to the confused and bewildered beginner. Not all stores treat beginners in any craft with the same service and hospitality as they do their regular customers. I think the fact that Keystone employees can help anyone get underway really sets them apart. read more

Boy, I remember Jason from the days he and his father shared space at a local farmers market. I bought my first kit there and made a few batches of my own before I moved from the area... the country actually. Keystone Homebrewing was the very first place I visited when I returned in '96. Yes, their staff is very knowledgeable and passionate about the craft of making beer AND wine. I am on a first-name basis with many of them. Every time I've asked for advise to better my beer they've come through with sincere recommendation, (.e. no sales pitch). I visited the Bethlehem store when shortly after they opened and found the staff there just as energized as the staff at the original Montgomeryville store. All in all, if you want to brew your first batch or your thousandth Keystone is the place to go. read more

My first few experiences inside homebrew stores have been reminiscent of Hank Hill at Strickland Propane, where a small, sometimes cramped store is passionately operated by a seasoned veteran of the trade. Then there's this place. To keep the King of the Hill analogies going, this place is almost the size of Mega-Lo-Mart, with plenty of space to peruse through the multitude of items like brewing equipment, ingredients, bottling gear and even a colorful assortment of drinking vessels. The employees, however, brought more to the table than the poor, late Buckley did at Mega-Lo-Mart. These guys are young, but they're smart and clearly passionate for their work. I asked a clerk named Peter for help putting together for a red ale with some good, citrusy hop flavor, and he dove right in, asking me questions about my taste and strength preferences and passing me bags of hops to inhale. Maybe with a few more visits, this place won't seem so larger than life. But for now, this place felt like the future. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have essentially everything you need to brew your beer/wine. Have a question about a recipe? They have an answer. Need a grain or hop substitution? They have the experience to guide you in the right direction. I have called a few times on brew day and had a staff member guide me through some of my hiccups. The atmosphere is great too. I am a female home brewer and have had the exact opposite experience with Keystone Homebrew as that described by Allie J. The staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable and never demonstrated any sexist/'women-can't-brew' behavior in my presence. The store is small (in size, not content) and when multiple customers show up at once, it can be a bit of mad house. If you are not clear that "I'm ready to buy this now", the staff may think you are browsing, already helped by someone else, waiting for a friend who is being helped or still thinking it over. The fact that Allie is female has nothing to do with it. I started home brewing last June by taking the introductory beer brewing class at Keystone. The class was fantastic and really gave me a solid skill set for brewing. Again, to contradict Allie's experience, my friend (also female) and I were welcomed just the same as the men in the class were. The staff at Keystone is not only helpful when you are at the store, but have helped me on the phone with any number of "insert-random-brewing-disaster-here" events. The quality of the ingredients at Keystone is top notch. With a high customer base, the grain, hops and yeast all are very fresh and turn over regularly. Just to reiterate, Keystone is VERY welcoming to new (and old) brewers, regardless of your gender. I recommend them for all your brewing needs. read more

I came into Keystone Homebrew Supply to look around as this was my first time here. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) with how many items they had available. As this was my first time here, I wasn't sure where everything was located. One of their employees, Adam, stopped over to ask if I needed any assistance. I explained to him that I was just starting out with only one beer brew under my belt. He really took his time answering all my questions and helping me understand everything. He was extremely friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. He really made sure that I had all the items that I needed for my next brew day. They even had little samples of beer available which was a really nice touch. I've been to Brew Your Own Beer in Havertown, where I didn't have a great experience as their store was very small and not very friendly. This is a giant toy store for homebrewers & wine makers. Their prices beat most online shops (if u add shipping) on just about everything I've bought from tubing to whole sack grains. I went online to look up Keystone's phone to write up a requisition before I travel there to stock up and was in shock when I seen the negative review which was top on the google result. I don't deal with these type of review forums, but I was compelled to join yelp only to speak of Keystone from my perspective. As an african american male patron as well as my mother who frequents there, I can ensure the public that what was said is utterly out of the character set of those in this establishment from my experience. I have shopped there consistently and witnessed nothing less than professional service to not just a few female customers, but many. May it be the young lady and her mother who had a poor experience I can only assume that incident be treated as an isolated negative interaction. As for the staff offering advice and their knowledge, well again, I witnessed that to all patrons entering the establishment including myself with experience in brewing...that's just their way of displaying credibility, not in a patronizing manner and i believe that was the misconception. Sorry Allie, but as you quoted, by stating that you told the sales guy in the first incident that "this was my first time doing it alone", that was a query statement that basically suggested that you wasn't too confident as to product content or process from my analysis. Just got back from a great class on All Grain Brewing. Fantastic instructor and we got to see the process from the beginning til it got into the fermentation container. The best part about it was we got great handouts and it didn't feel like a commercial to buy lots of gadgets. We stopped into the store after a visit to Stone & Key cellars, at the back of the building, and were impressed with the incredibly well-stocked store and the friendly and helpful staff. While my husband has been home brewing for a while, we'd never tried making cider and one chat with the staff gave us the confidence (and instructions) to make an off-recipe hopped cider. We would definitely recommend this store to anyone that's interested in making beer, wine, cider, or even cheese... they have supplies for making any of them! I've visited Keystone Homebrew a few times in the past 2 years, I would have visited more if it weren't such a drive for me. But the selection is the best I've seen in any local home brew store. The guys and gals working there have always been available to look for parts or ingredients and have treated me respectfully. It seems like a great place to hang around if you're a brewer, with lots of classes and such. I've been a brewer for years so I basically just go in and get what I need without a whole lot of interaction. But I wanted to give them a shout out because these guys went out of their way to procure not one but several types of locally sourced apple cider for the hard cider making season. That just can't be beat. In this economy, it's tough to do business as a local homebrew shop...let me rephrase that...it's tough to STAY in business as a local homebrew shop. With that said, it seems that these guys are doing what it takes to expand and I wish them well. I'll be going back in the future. /cheers read more

I bought a brew Meister kegerator from my friends dad and I had no clue how to get it up and running. I heard keystone home brew was the place to go from a friend. These guys came through in a pinch. I really like this place. My dad and I planned on getting together and making wine. So for my birthday a few years back we rolled over and picked up the equipment I did not have. I had a really basic set up cobbled together from people who had extra components they did not want to store anymore, so it was time to go all in. This place has it all. They are also pretty knoledgable on all things brewing. So this year I was tied up and just did not have the time to get up to buy the grape juice. Part of it was that my dad passed last year and I was hoping to make vinting something we could do together so I was kind of bummed out and procrastinating over the whole endeavor. I normally would go to a place in south Philly to purchase the juice, because that's where I work. Well, those guys were out. So I called up Keystone and they not only had some stock, but they gave me a discount because some of the pails were a little short of 6 gallons. When I opened them, the loss was miniscule, but they did the right thing. Anyway, when I called them, they actually held the pails for me. They were happy to see me, and it's just an all-around nicer place. Since my dad lived only a few miles away I brought my mom with me then took her to dinner. She is disabled, this is another nice thing about this place. She could gain easy access to the store and get around pretty well with the ramp. I would never take my mom to South Philly, it is more of a survival of the fittest scenario down there, whereas Keystone is more of a place of learning and discovery. Anyway, I will definitely be back for hopefully years to come. read more

Great place! I just started getting into home brewing and found Keystone when I needed to buy beer kits. The staff is super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and love to offer help. Prices aren't too bad.. Im sure you can find cheaper online, but personally I'd rather support the local economy and get the added benefit of expert advice on brewing. I heard they have a beer club where you can bring in your brew for judging. Next time I stop in I will more than likely join. Overall great place! read more
