I was pretty disappointed with my first visit to Octavia's. I have several friends that have gone there for years and have spoken well of their experiences. I came in on a Sunday afternoon that wasn't very busy. No one greeted me and I waited several minutes standing right by the check out desk and a few feet from about 3 members of the staff before one person finally asked if I needed help. When I explained my interest I was directed to the rack of dresses and told to look around. No reason to go back. read more

I felt beautiful in it, and it looked oh-so-flattering. Amy, the angel of seamstresses, does amazing work. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Octavia and depend on them when I need a special occasion dress. Very disappointing experience. After my gown and rehearsal dinner dress were paid for, along with the pre-alteration fee, the problems began. I called the day the gown was to be ready for pick up (two weeks before my son's wedding) and was told the seamstress was on vacation and had not altered anything; the gown and rehearsal dinner dress would be ready the day of my rehearsal dinner, when I would already be out of town. I insisted they get another seamstress, which they did, so that I could leave town for the wedding with the gown (and dress) in hand. The dress straps had been stretched out during altering the collar -- they said it was from handing on a hander, but they did fix that problem. The gown turned out to have many problems. The right breast had all kinds of dents and bumps. The owner said this is the material, but I had a picture of what the dress looked like on me before it was altered. My daughter said I could not walk down the aisle in this dress and that it really looked awful! Several visits back with the seamstress, the final one being 3 1/2 hours sitting in the boutique on Father's day, with the seamstress trying different things. The "solution" was wearing a strapless bra, and putting cups into the gown ABOVE my breasts in the stretched out material -- yes, two sets of boobs essentially. The dents and bumps still showed on the day of my son's wedding, and it will be a constant reminder in all of the pictures of the experience I had with this gown, which I will never wear again. No apology from the owner. Acted as if this was my fault. Said it was the material of the dress, etc. Not a care in the world from her -- she had her money already. My daughter's wedding is around the corner and I will not be getting the gown and rehearsal dinner dress from Octavia's. Just a horrible experience for such an important event, as the Mother of the groom. read more
