Ocean view cemetery has gone downhill since the late 80s. It is no longer maintained to the extreme that it was. Weeds growing everywhere. Peoples tombstones are no longer kept clean. Ground keepers are not organized and ready for people's burial. They had the dirt piled up directly next to the gravesite that my Aunt was being buried at. Covered with artificial grass. That same dirt was covering my grandmother's gravesite and my father's gravesite. All three sites were purchased at the same time so it was on record that all three of these people were in direct relation. My Grandmother was the mother of my Father and Aunt. This was in the Saint Bernard's section of Ocean View Cemetery. Which is the Catholic Churches located in Eureka Ca, and also belong to the same diocese that goes all the way down to Santa Rosa, Ca. read more

Looks terrible. It just gets worse. They do not care about the grounds and they know we don't have a choice really. Been 6 months and my dad doesn't have his stone. I personally clean up their overgrown sites when I get a chance to travel back up north. Also, my grandma bought 3 grave sites in 1981. My dad bought the 3rd site from my grandma's estate in 2013. When my dad passed this last year, I bought a site above dad's and was charged double for many things--one for him and one for me. At that time, I had just lost my dad and wasn't considering everything. I'm wondering since I paid for my site and everything that goes with it pretty much, did I pay twice for things already paid for back in 1981? I want to see exactly what was paid for then. I'm going to be calling and asking. Beware, they are salesmen and don't care about anything else. I'm so disappointed in this place. read more

I am glad this cemetery is under new management. The prior manager failed to have me sign the paperwork for a Government Headstone for my son who died while serving in the military. I called him, the manager numerous times to follow up with the delivery of the stone from the military for over a year and he kept telling me to be patient. As a year passed I followed up again with a phone call to discover, the manager had dropped the ball and moved on. I appreciate the new management's help. My son deserves his stone, especially after 18 years of service. ` read more

What can I say about a cemetery. Nice quiet area above the city. More trees would be nice. It's expanded a lot since I lived there

Ocean View Cemetery is an insult to those of us who have family and friends buried there. The weeds have not been mowed in sometime. The cemetery is unkempt and there is no grass. The water is turned off meaning one cannot fill a water container for flowers. But that comes after the fact that many of the vases are missing and those remaining are rusted in place and cannot be removed for filling IF water were available. I bring pliers but regardless could not remove. These final resting places were paid for with a contract for perpetual care. This is not happening. I will be contacting the State Cemetary Board to request review of this concern that has continued for many years. read more

My parents bought a 2 person crypt in the 60's for $11,000.00 to go there today the same package is $24,750.00 we scattered their ashes elsewhere because in my mother's own words, "do not leave us here its cold and impersonable i do not want anyone coming here to visit us" the lawns are unkept the tombstones are covered in grass and dirt from the gophers theres crypts and tile and cement that need maintenance they obviously need to put time and money into the place and one of the other yelps mentioned the odor it is bad all i know is its been neglected and in trying to sell the crypt we own its hard to get even the price that was paid in the 60's when the place is obviously in need of care​ read more

On 3/14/2021, I lost my son, my only child, to Fentanyl poisoning. I live in NYS and had to fly to Arcata to make final arrangements. I called a few places trying to find someone to handle my son's' cremation ASAP. We didn't get any help until we contacted Oceanview. They said that they would work us in and help us. I was in such a state that I don't remember a lot of what took place but I will never forget the compassion and professionalism that we were shown. The young man that we dealt with somehow managed to keep me from losing it and talked me through the process. He was great! I can't say enough good things about this place and I highly recommend it. read more

Like others, I am very upset and concerned about the lack of maintenance and repairs at Sunset Memorial Park where my immediate family are buried. For several years, I have made the trip to Eureka to clean up the graves from weeds, dirt over the markers from gophers. In 2007, I contacted the cemetery because my brother's grave marker was coming out of the ground. There was a large area sinking on top of the full length of the gravesite causing the market to dislodge. The marker was removed and leveled, but nothing was done about the sinkhole. On the rare occasion when the mower came by, this area of weeds always grew back first. The weeds were below the level of the rest of the ground so never were fully cut back. The vases are rusted out or gone. If you want to leave flowers, you have to bring a container (and it will be gone next time you go there). My parents, both deceased and buried there, bought the plots in 1966 when my brother died. They chose Sunset because it was so beautifully maintained. I still have the original sales receipt and deed. A part of the amount that they paid was set aside for "Endowment Care." I am livid, and I will not stop until I find out where those funds are and why they are not being used for the purpose for which they were intended. If the funds are "gone" then someone needs to be held accountable. read more

Nice small cemetery. In the process of totally replacing the irrigation system. One thing that bothers me, since I have a few relatives in the indoor mausoleum: That damn building smells hella like embalming fluid. Not sure what the deal with that is. The bodies are supposed to be in (besides their caskets) heavy-duty sealed capsules that are installed in the walls (which, by the way, are just drywall walls; it's a building like any other. This is not a monolithic stone structure). They need to investigate that. It's a little disconcerting at the very least. read more

I lost my son 6 months ago and we barried him in the oceanview cemetery. Its a beautiful location. I raised my kids around its location and thats why i choice it. The first couple months the employees where helpful and friendly. But my daily visits are becoming an issue because i am constantly harrast by the maintenance man. I have called regarding the harrasment and no one has returned my calls. I regret placing my son somewhere I don't feel welcome. Although this won't deter my visits to my son. read more

If you need to have a service on a Saturday, they cannot accommodate you. Also, they charge for an expensive, owner-required and unnecessary "vault" to inter an urn. You can only get pricing from one guy who is always unavailable. After finally talking to him, he was supposed to email me details in early November. I didn't hear back until January. We had people flying in from all over so we made arrangements for a service elsewhere. read more
