My husband and I relocated to Virginia and chose to stay in one of Cindy Lee's "executive" rentals on the beach. The apartment was located on the beach, but advertised at 700 square feet, so we were concerned about the size as we have two medium sized dogs and were planning to stay for at least 2-3 months. Over the phone, Cindy assured us that if we weren't comfortable in that apartment that she had plenty of other properties and we could easily move to a different one. When we got there, however, and the apartment was closer to 500 square feet, we asked about our other options immediately. The soonest she could get us into something else was at least a month out. As we continued to settle in, we noticed that there were places for shelves in a linen closet area, but no shelves there. This was crucial as there is only one tiny bedroom closet and three drawer dresser in the whole place, so storage was limited at best. She assured us she would have shelves cut and also bring a ladder by to allow us to store things in the attic. It was over a month before that actually happened after repeated phone calls. Then, one afternoon, I returned home to discover that our water had been shut off. We immediately tried to get in touch with Cindy, but were unable to after several attempts. As a landlord, she should be available for emergencies 24/7, but especially at 4 in the afternoon. It turned out she was working on her garden away from her phone and we were only able to alert her of our problem because our neighbors went by her house to drop off their rent check. She never even told us where to send our rent check and then sent us a threatening letter with a late fee when it was 5 days late. Beyond this, when we moved out, she charged us ridiculous amounts of money for minor wear and tear to the apartment, keeping almost our entire $2000 security deposit. We called to discuss this with her and she dodged our calls to the point that we had to call from a different phone number just so that she would answer. She said she would talk to her partner and get back to us, which never happened. We tried calling back about a month later and in the middle of the conversation, she hung up on us. Renting from Cindy Lee was the worst experience I have ever had in customer service. I would highly discourage anyone from renting from her under any circumstance. read more
