What stands out most is the individualized approach to care. I work in the health and wellness field myself, so I really value providers who take the time to educate patients, explain the "why" behind treatment, and focus on long-term prevention instead of quick fixes. He actually takes the time to listen, ask good questions, and figure out what's really going on instead of just rushing into treatment. What I appreciated most is that nothing felt generic. Every session had a clear purpose, and I always left with something practical I could do on my own. He explains things in a way that makes sense (no confusing jargon), and you can tell he really knows his stuff without needing to make it complicated. The mix of hands-on work and exercises helped me start noticing real improvement sooner than I expected. Overall, just a solid, trustworthy place if you're trying to recover or move better without guessing your way through it.

My first day I crutched in and I had a physical therapist assigned to me and that was Jessica Dungca. She was calm, welcoming, understanding and generally had an aura of trust around her. That first day we went over my situation, treatment plan for the next two weeks and she even cleaned up my post op area around my knee and reapplied new dressings and what not, I did not expect that to happen and it was so nice of her. She is also very adamant about getting you the paperwork you need for work. I requested a duty limitation letter from her on a Friday morning and she had it easy to go on Monday morning, in my inbox of my email. Very professional, caring and helpful with anything you need in your recovery. Fast forward three (3) months, I absolutely love Jessica and Russell as my PT team. They are so nice, welcoming, understanding and supportive when it comes to recovery. They both listen and care when you are feeling uncomfortable with movements and have an alternative ready to go. All in all, I would highly recommend this Torrance office for physical therapy and ask for Jessica and Russell! Cannot recommend them enough.

Before I started therapy I called and told them I had a Humana Medicare PPO policy and a six month old list of in-network providers that listed their address and phone number, but did not specifically list their company name. I asked if they were still in network with Humana, was told that they were. I made an appointment and at the first session gave them my Humana insurance card and was charged the in-network copay of $10 for that session and eventually for the 7 sessions that followed. At the end of the 7th session, I was told that they were actually not in-network and that the copay was actually $45 per session. I called their billing office twice and asked to speak to someone about this. The first time I was told that someone would call me back in a few minutes...they didn't. A few days later I called again and was told that a manager would call me back in a few minutes...they didn't. I wrote them a letter explaining the problem and stated that I would not have had a single session with them had I been told that they were out of network...they didn't respond. Eventually I got a bill from them stating that I owed them $280. I wrote them another letter specifically disputing their bill. They ignored my letter and just sent me the same bill again the next month. All of the confusion stems from two issues. First, this facility was a different company in 2024 and at that time was in-network with Humana. Around that start of 2025, they were acquired by Calif Rehab and Sports Therapy, which is not in-network. Second, they do not have a dedicated front desk and whoever is not working with patients at the time does the check in. There does not appear to be a list of insurance companies for them to consult when someone checks in. Neither of the therapists I dealt with or their assistants knew that they were no longer in-network with Humana. They really need to decide if they want to stay in business. Unless or until they get their act together I would advise you to avoid dealing with them. In the mean time, I hope someone in management over there directs their billing office to fix this.

When one suffers any kind of injury, and its concomitant loss of the ability to engage in normal day-to-day activities, it takes both a physical and psychological toll. We go through our lives with the presumption that tomorrow will be just like today, and when there is a breakdown in that pattern, we have to entrust strangers to the task of helping us repair the damage and to return to our lives. I consider myself incredibly lucky that the staff of Sports and Spine Orthopedics was recommended to me for this purpose. After my surgery, my doctor informed me that not all therapists are created equal. Sadly, many places simply throw an ice pack on your injury, give you a couple exercises to do, and send you on your way. This almost guarantees your injury will never heal correctly, and your lifetime mobility will almost certainly be impacted. From day one, my therapist, Dr. Joy Puente, pushed me and ensured that although the process wasn't a physically pleasant one, it was necessary and she made me feel very comfortable pushing my body where it needed to go. She was not just an incredible therapist, but she always maintained a strong sense of oversight over all of the events occurring on the floor. Even though she might be working with me, she was constantly aware of other patients, and other employees. She provided guidance, and ensured that others were given gentle correction if an exercise was off or being done incorrectly by a patient. It's the little things that separate the average from the superb. She is a wonderful leader, therapist, and person. I'd like to acknowledge some of the other employees as well. Ashlee was the first face I would generally see upon arriving for my appointments. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. One day I heard her recounting a story for a client who pointed out her bubbly personality. She told him that her mother had told her, "Nobody who comes to a hospital wants to see a frown on an employee," or words to that effect. It is words of wisdom such as this from our parents that set us out on our path into this world to become valuable employees, friends, and civic minded citizens. She's a wonderful young lady. The world needs more smiles and kind words for those in need of them. Big shout out to Marco, Diego, and Katherine (Catherine, Kathryn?). Each of these employees helped me on numerous occasions, even though the floor was busy, they painstakingly and caringly helped me with my exercises, and made sure I wasn't cheating. As our coaches once taught us, when we cheat, we're only cheating ourselves. God bless each of them for their kindness and care. In short, I was given excellent attention and, in a small way, wished that my sessions did not come to an end. These therapists are often tasked with working with some difficult clients, and they also have to listen to some very personal life stories. Part of their job, although certainly not in their job description, is to provide some "pastoral care," to these men and women, many of whom are elderly. The care they give is an excellent manifestation of the corporal works of mercy which we are called to provide to our fellow brothers and sisters. If you're still reading, I hope that this review has properly acknowledged and lauded those who helped me get back into the gym and back to work. My shoulder is back to its full range of movement, and I'm even "pre-habilitating" my other one. I wish all of the employees at this office the best and may each of you who read this who are recovering from surgery be returned to your former active lifestyles.

My awesome doctor, Dr. Farahmand, has requested testing for me in an effort to see how my body is handling my medications. I stopped by the office to pickup the proper paperwork to take down the hall for the lab to use and was warmly greeted, as always, by his staff. There ended up being a small snafu with the requested test not being available for me at the lab, but his staff did all they could to assist me with still trying to get it done. After several attempts to get the correct test for me on hand, I sadly had to leave without accomplishing the objective. But the funny part was that I just see this as I will have another chance to see the smiling faces of the Sports & Spine staff again in another week when the test does become available for me. The staff is so welcoming that it is actually a doctor office that I look forward to visiting, and for that I say THANK YOU! Thank you for making me feel seen and heard. And thank you so much for keeping me calm as I navigate the difficult waters of back pain. I appreciate all that your office does for me and others.
