Great location and a beautiful home. The beach was beautiful and just a short walk from the beach.

I stopped in twice yesterday. The first visit was fine -- nothing memorable, but fine. Geneva was…read morebartending both times. The second visit, however, came with a greeting I've never heard in my fifty‑plus years: "You've been out all day. I can't serve you because I'll be liable if you're over served." I've bartended before. I understand the responsibility. But I was never asked a single question about what I'd actually been doing. For clarity: we had lunch at Michael's Seafood before our first visit. I had one non‑alcoholic seltzer at Island Beverage, and my partner had a four‑flight sampler. After that, we went thrifting and shopping at Goodwill, Lowe's Foods, and Dollar Tree. No drinking. No bar‑hopping. Nothing even close. On our second visit, Geneva gave us water and let us charge a phone -- and I do appreciate that. But being told "you've been out all day" instead of "welcome back" was unnecessary, inaccurate, and frankly insulting. It was an assumption presented as fact, and it was embarrassing. What made it even more absurd was watching Geneva continue to serve patrons who were clearly intoxicated while I sat there with a glass of water. So here's the takeaway: Don't go in twice in one day. Apparently that alone is enough to get treated like you've been drinking all over town. After this experience, I won't be going in on any day. I hope the staff can handle situations like this with actual communication instead of jumping straight to conclusions.

We pleasantly stumbled across this place, looking for some local brews, while visiting for the…read moreweek. They had a more than ample selection of local brews on tap, and all that we sampled were delish. They had a huge selection of wine and even served wine by the glass. There were a ton of games to play while you sip, which will be on our agenda next time. The bartender couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming to 2 non-locals! Next time we are bringing the rest of the crew!

My review for the Sunset Beach ABC store is below. This ABC Board is associated with and…read moreresponsible for that store. I appreciate you taking time to read and consider this review. Many thanks! Review for SB ABC Store: I wanted to give 1 star since the interaction was unpleasant and disturbing, but I gave 2 stars for raw honesty and a decent selection for a small store. Please read on to decide if this is the right store for you and your wallet. What happened? We have a house in SB and were patrons of the store...until tonight. Tonight, we walked in and asked for a rare type of alcohol to see if they carry it. We were told they do get them, but they are all spoken for by locals and regular patrons. I explained we are relatively new locals and patrons. My husband asked if there's a list he can get on for their next delivery. Nope. There's the raw honesty. I guess they could have given us a song and dance. They could have lied, but instead, I fear they took one look at us (bi-racial) and decided they weren't going to add us to their list. I hate to use the race card here since I rarely do, but this felt wrong and was definitely unfair to ALL patrons - regardless of ethnicity - other than their good old buddies. (Oh, and if it was a discrimination issue, I'd like to mention I'm a descendant of at least one documented patriot who fought in the American Revolution. You don't get more "American" than THAT.) I doubt I'll return. I'll drive farther to get better service and better pricing in SC. What a shame because we certainly have a large bar selection and entertain friends often, and of course as Sunset Beach locals (who don't rent their home), we'd prefer to purchase our alcohol in SB since 100% of net profits go directly to the Sunset Beach General Fund. I'd like to now use a phrase from Tom C.'s review of this store: "For our intelligent [Yelp] readers, I ask that you consider the source of this review." Please note this review is my humble opinion, and as an approved member of the "Elite Yelp" group, I do my best to provide fair and thorough reviews because the Yelp report I receive indicates thousands of people read my reviews each month. This is an updated review, and I previously gave a review of 5 stars for the decent selection, including specialty liquors. So, you can imagine how disappointed I was this evening when my husband and I received unfair treatment...even as "locals." I'd also like to note I'm well-educated and don't have an arrest record of any kind, and I only mention this because Tom C disparaged another patron of the store because of the other patron's review. I plan to ask the ABC Commission of North Carolina if this type of practice is indeed discriminatory and legal. For example, ABC stores in other North Carolina counties hold lotteries for rare bottles of alcohol. ABC stores in other states charge high prices (dictated by market demand) for rare alcohol. Don't these policies seem fairer than giving preference to the few good old buddies and refusing to sell the rare alcohol to other patrons? I humbly ask all readers to please carefully consider where you choose to spend your discretionary income. You have monetary power. If enough people choose to patronize other ABC stores, perhaps the Board Members (Herb, Michael, Donald, Betty, and Roy) of this store will reconsider their policies. Thank you.
