I lived at Ocean Gate Towers for a few years. I liked it and would recommend it. The manager has always been very responsive to me, and repairs are done promptly. The building is kept very clean - way cleaner than the last one I lived in down the street! Love the location which is 1 short block from the beach (about a 2 minute walk at most). I do want to give some perspective on another reviewer who claims their package got stolen from the lobby. Unfortunately we live in an age where this type of theft is very common in the LA area. In any building, if a package is left in the lobby, it may not be there for very long. I actually think this building is better than the others in the area regarding the security of the lobby, as they have cameras and a new auto-closer for the door which they replaced. Still, even though the area is very safe, petty criminals follow people in to all buildings and look for packages to swipe in the lobby. I had numerous packages delivered to my front door instead of the lobby, and not one was stolen. That was what was suggested to me, and it has worked great. Not ideal, but if you're going to live in an apartment building anywhere in southern CA, this is always going to be a problem if packages are left in the lobby. Same thing regarding the garage. It's a large garage meant for cars, not valuables. I am no longer living here. Got transferred at my job far enough away to where I couldn't justify the long drive anymore. Loved the location but there is a lot of theft .. lobby packages as well as numerous large scale theft from garage .. management does nothing about it .. not even posting a pretend sign that there is cameras to tears anyone odd etc. Happened multiple times to many residents in my three years there. read more

Ocean Gate Towers was a great place to live for me. Unfortunately I lost my job due to COVID, and while I was lucky enough to find another, it was too far from south Redondo, so I had to move. You know how they say "Location, location, location"? It's one short block away from the beach and has a beautiful roof deck where you can just sit up there, stare at the ocean, and be taken to a peaceful place, which is great to have in a year like this! In fact the roof deck was what made me choose this building over some of the others I looked at, as the other places either didn't have one or it didn't look good. The pleasant surprise at Ocean Gate was the manager Anthony. Best manager I've ever had in an apartment building. Very nice, respectful, and responsive. You know those managers who always act like you're burdening them when you ask them to do something? Anthony is the opposite. Wish the manager in my new place was like him. Also this is gonna sound weird, but another thing I appreciated was the laundry room. Don't laugh! There's one on each floor (no lugging your basket down to the garage or lobby like many places), and it takes credit cards. My whole apartment living life, I was always stressing if I had enough quarters when I ran out clean clothes. Loved it, and honestly unexpected in an area where everything was built decades ago. Oh and there's 2 elevators in a building where there couldn't even be 50 units. That's also cool. Never seen that before in a building of this size either! Building is clean and quiet, I really have no complaints. If I ever come back to the area, I'd gladly rent here again. read more

Have lived here for three years, Anthony the current property manager is awesome. Any issue we have is taken care of as quickly as possible. The apartment is quiet and the neighbors look out for each other. Regarding the security deposit, you should never assume you are going to get it back, normal wear and tear on a unit can easily cost the total of the deposit. It is a shame they don't offer month to month the leases after a year. We are going to move out soon because we are buying a place, but have loved it here. read more

Well, I got a job in Torrance, and after braving that brutal commute from Thousand Oaks on the 405 for a few weeks, I decided to take a deep breath and move out of my boyfriend's place, to a location a bit more convenient for work. I decided to make some good out of the situation by finally living out my dream to have a place on the beach. I looked at a bunch of places in south Redondo (on Catalina and Esplanade) before settling on Ocean Gate Towers. Oddly enough, despite being a lover of Yelp, I never thought to use it for apartment hunting until AFTER signing my lease. And boy, I'm glad I didn't! Sorry, but these reviews I'm seeing here don't accurately portray this building at all. I noticed that most of them are from 1-2 years ago, so perhaps things have changed for the better since then. Anyway, here is an HONEST and CURRENT assessment of Ocean Gate: THE GOOD: - The location is so sweet! It's literally 1 block from the beach! The neighborhood is very safe, and as a woman I feel totally comfortable walking around at night. - The building is well-maintained and clean. - Despite being an older building, the apartments, and even the lobby, have been completely renovated and look modern. This set the buidling apart from the others I looked at in the area, where I felt like Austin Powers in a time warp back to 1966! - There are 2 elevators, one in the front and one in the back. Never saw such a thing for a building this size, but living in the back, I really like it. - Laundry rooms on every floor. Wish the apartments had hookups, but at least I don't have to go down to some dimly-lit basement area to do my laundry at night. - Building is quiet. If it had a noise problem in years past, that has been fixed now. - Management is friendly and responsive to maintenance requests. Some reviews complain about the management taking forever to fix things. I had the opposite experience with my two requests since I moved in -- they handled things quickly. I see people are talking about a manager named Tina, but that's not who's managing the place now, so I am guessing the past problems were Tina's fault. THE BAD: - Building is older, probably 40-50 years. Unfortunately this is the case for all apartment buildings in the area, so you need to just pick the one that's maintained the best. That's why I chose to live in this one. But still, it's an older building, and there's only so much that can be done to cover that up. - Laundry prices are expensive, about equivalent to what area laundromats charge. I asked the manager why they are charging so much, and I was told that utility prices are high. Wasn't particularly satisfied with that answer, but whatever... it only costs me a few bucks extra per month, so it's no biggie. Just annoyed me. Rent seems comparable to similar buildings in the area. They all seemed to charge around the same, except for the ones that were real dumps. I don't doubt that the other reviewers here had valid points about the noise and maintenance issues, but it seems those are in the past, and my next door neighbor (who has been here 4 years) agreed that the current managers are substantially better than Tina, who was apparently terrible. Anyway, so far so good... now if only my boyfriend could find a job in the LA area so I don't have to go back to Thousand Oaks every weekend! read more

Moved out of Ocean Gate Towers last month after living there 2 1/2 years. Sorry to go, a good experience. While I lived here, I watched the building transform form the 1970's to 2012. It was like living thru a time warp. Outside and common area renovations look fantastic. They put new sound proof type windows in all the apts. Really quiet. They did the interior of my neighbor's unit. It changed from old white tile to granite and marble. They offered to redo my apt while I was living there but I declined. Didn't feel like having the hassle of having workers in there and having my place torn up. After I moved, I heard mine was done too. Appears they are doing every unit that moves out. Also, saw a lot of plumbing redone in the building. Received back the bulk of my security deposit. Got charged for cleaning & carpet cleaning, but I really didn't leave it clean so I felt the charges were fair. I saw the management change for the better. The last manager, Tina, was truly the pits! She couldn't have cared less about the tenants and their needs. I was told that she and her husband were there for many years and that they were good at first but then he got sick and things deteriorated. Since the current managers Jerry and Barbie came in, what a difference! They are on top of things and follow up and care! Repairs are taken care of in a very timely manner. Building is very clean and well run. There was one apt of loud partiers. Heard they were evicted in Feb. Management followed up on the complaints (including mine) and got rid of them. Eviction took a few months, but they are gone and peace is back. I like having laundry machines on each floor. Very convenient and right down the hall form my apt. Would recommend living here. Good location, good looking and good management. read more

This is absolutely the worst place I have ever lived. Everything breaks or is and had been broken since the day we moved in, also it takes for ever to get anything fixed. Its extremely noisy and you can hear everything your neighbors do. The guy that lives above us is either just a plain a**hole or he is bored and likes to complain a lot. Cops are frequently called here. And everything echos. Also when a complaint does come through, the manager will not let you know nicely. He will call you and rip your head off. Cuss at you and degrade you. Tina, the on site manger is a great lady. But the owners suck! DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!! Not worth the $2000 for rent. read more

This apartment complex does not deserve a star. The managemnet Barbie does not do anything. Then walls and floor are thin and you can hear the the neighbors. They let anyone rent who can afford it, even imature pucks that cause nothing but havoc and noise 24 hours. This place is way way overpriced. Great location but terrible ownership. We lived here for 2 years and enjoyed the location but the owner is so terrible that it's not worth it to live here. Here are the overall pros and cons. Pros: - great location - elevator - parking in the building - laundry on every floor - roof top sun deck Cons: - elevator broken half of the time - management is slow to respond to requests for repairs (e.g. It took 2 months with multiple phone calls and emails to get screens placed on our balcony doors. AND there was a leak in the garage that damaged the hood of my car and management refused to pay for the repairs and took weeks to fix the leaky pipe) - laundry machines regularly eat quarters - when we moved out after only 2 years of living in the apartment with minor wear and tear issues we had to fight with the owners to get most of our deposit back. We were warned by other tenants that left the apartment building that this would happen and they were right :( - expensive rent This apartment building is part of a group in PV and Redondo Beach that are all called Ocean Gate. If you care about your deposit and don't want to be taken advantage off financially then don't live here. There are apartment buildings all over this area with similar location, standard of living, and views for better prices and better ownership. read more

I've lived in this place about 4 years. Had no complaints for a long time. When anything broke, I went to Dan the manager, and he got it fixed. I liked him. Didn't have any kind of noise problem, either. It all changed when Dan got sick last year. My maintenance requests were fielded by his wife Tina, and ignored. She said she'd get to them when Dan felt better, but it just never happened. People also started to realize that with Dan in such bad shape, they could pretty much run wild in the building. Upstairs neighbors were partying constantly, and I kept complaining, but nothing was done. Again Tina gave me the run around. I got fed up and started looking for a new place. While I was still searching for a new building, Dan died. They hired new managers and things quickly changed back to normal! I went to the managers with my still-not-fixed problems and they took care of everything within 3 days. I told them about the partying above me, and that also completely stopped. In general the building is much quieter and everything works again. I'm happy again and have stopped looking for a new apartment. Glad I stayed and rode it out. read more

Horrible. If you move there DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT. The resident managers are nice but it takes months if at all to fix anything. Management who handles the money (different managers)suck and will try to cheat you out of your deposit any way they can. Ex. They took a picture thru the window on the side that has a decaying screen and try to say we left the windows dirty. Also took a picture of the 30+ year old oven that had chipped porcelin trying to pass it off as grease. Than tried to say we caused damage to baseboard and carpet installing Time Warner cable. Cable company only hooked up to the existing wires added nothing new. Of the 14 repairs they claimed, management provided -0- invoices.. ALWAYS ask for the invoices when landlords claim repairs. I am sure we will end up in court over this. Anyone else have the same experience??? Contact me and we can help each other. There is strength in numbers. UPDATE: Going to court soon!!!! UPDATE: Went to court and absolutely SPANKED them. Got my whole deposit but $114. Write me and I'll tell you how I presented my case and give you the pictures I used. I want to first say that the onsite property managers are great. Both Jerry and Barbie and some of the nicest most helpful people I've encountered that do a job of that sort. With that said, after living there 5 years, and receiving a $600 deduction from my damage deposit for items that were either 1. caused by workers employed by Ocean Gate Towers, 2 wear and tear related items from living in a unit 5 years, or 3. were never in good condition which they reported as deficient to begin with. Beware of living under any complex that the underlying ownership of Ocean Gate Towers owns. They own several in PV and Redondo. Abe is one of the owners' name, so ask around to determine if he or his partners own the location. You will need to take pictures on a regular basis and be prepared to go to court to fight them. I moved out of state for a job, so the expense of traveling back and forth did not add up to the deductions for caulking a shower, replacing a sink cover for a garbage disposal, fixing two sets of blinks that were broken from the onset, or fixing a screen with "cat pulls" on it. Keep in mind, the cat had an extra portion of rent paid each month for any perceived issues of that sort. Anyway, just go in knowing no matter how long you live there, you will lose half your deposit without any wrong doing on your part. read more

I have been living on the third floor of a smallish four-floor building for two years, and after looking for the last month for an apartment in another area, find that I am reluctantly leaving a "gem"! Ocean Gate Towers is one block from the prettiest beach in So. Cal. It is safe to walk on Catalina Ave to the local restaurants and shops at any time. The sidewalks are flat and smooth and walking only one block to the Esplanade (the Beach!) is awesome. The manager team, Jerry and Barbie, could not be nicer. They attend to any repair issues immediately, and are always on hand with a smile. There are two elevators, always in working order! Parking is gated, underneath the building. Water pressure is very good, also, even though the building is older. The managers maintain a respectful, quiet clientele in the building. The kitchen has been redone in granite with travertine floors, and is large enough to fit a decent sized fridge. "Open concept" truly lives here! The huge patio sliding doors are visible from the living room, ding area and kitchen. Roomy bedrooms, incredible storage - every square inch is utilized.
