The location alone is hard to beat--being so close to the ocean made everyday life feel peaceful and refreshing. What really made the place stand out, though, was the staff. (Update, 3/20/26) It is truly impressive how a management company can be so "available" on Google and Yelp while being surgically unreachable in reality. To "help" them engage, I have officially filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the California Attorney General. I am currently finalizing a formal Demand Letter and am fully prepared to pursue this in Small Claims Court to recover my funds plus the statutory bad-faith damages permitted under California law. (Orginal comment, 3/11/26) I had a generally okay experience living here as I managed to survive multi-day water shortages, intermittent internet, paper-thin walls, and appliances that belong in a museum. However, the real "gotcha" moment arrived at move-out after Feb 28. Despite leaving my apartment in legit condition ('mob clean') and having a pre-move-out inspection where zero issues were noted in writing and the condition was acknowledged as "normal", management still deducted heavy fees for unit cleaning, carpet cleaning, and painting. Moreover, under California law, landlords must provide itemized receipts for deductions over $125 within 21 days. Instead, I received only "estimates," a loophole only allowed if work cannot be completed in time. Yet, the unit was listed as "available" by March 11. If the work did happen, where are the receipts? If it didn't, why the deduction? If you move here, document every square inch and be prepared to fight for your deposit back. I'm currently disputing these unjustified charges. read more

Our experience at Ocean Club Apartments was extremely disappointing, especially given how expensive the units are and how appealing the location initially seems. While the views and proximity to everything are great, that's unfortunately where the positives end. Noise was a constant and unresolved issue. For months, we dealt with excessive noise from our upstairs neighbor--rolling, stomping, and movement at all hours between 1am-6am. On top of that, laundry machines would run as early as 6am, dogs barked frequently, and we could even hear people slamming weights at 5am through closed doors and a noise machine. Management never addressed the issue in any meaningful way--their only suggestion was to have security come into our apartment in the middle of the night to "listen," rather than actually resolve it. The building itself is old and in serious need of updates. Something was always breaking. To be fair, the maintenance team (JJ, Bryan, and Ryan) were the one bright spot--they were responsive, kind, and did everything they could. Unfortunately, they were constantly stuck fixing recurring problems. We stayed longer thanks to them! We experienced multiple serious habitability issues: * We went two full days with no water or working toilets. Management provided no solutions or accommodations, despite us raising health concerns and even suggesting temporary options like porta-potties. * Over 14 months, we experienced at least 10-20 instances of no hot water or unusable toilets. * Twice, the upstairs unit's laundry flooded into our apartment. We lived for 12 days with damage, holes in the walls, and a dehumidifier blocking access to our only bathroom. Over $1,000 worth of personal items were ruined by mold and moisture from the leak. Management was by far the most frustrating part of living here. They were consistently dismissive, unresponsive, and showed little to no concern for residents--even when issues were caused by the property itself. Communication felt cold and transactional, and it was clear that once rent was paid, you were just another number. We also had a particularly negative experience with a representative from Lyon Living, who was rude, condescending, and strung us along for over a month before ultimately denying any meaningful resolution to our mold problem. Security was another concern. We were woken up multiple times between 1-3am by people breaking into the pool area, and even by the security guard himself talking loudly on speakerphone at 3am. Ultimately, we chose to leave due to the constant issues, lack of accountability, and inability to get a good night's sleep. I saw the other review about move out costs. What you read is true. If I can't right off my pet in my income tax who do they think they are to be so unfair to charge !? Money hungry scavengers!!! The property management, leasing staff , and maintenance staff are all fantastic and very responsive. I hope that the ownership reads this review and appreciates the quality of the staff. I just moved in in september, and I had a lot of boxes to unpack . It was quite a chore to try to bring all those empty boxes to recycling . I called the property management office and asked if someone could help and on two occasions they dispatch staff to get rid of the boxes. And the staff was very cordial and helpful . In this new age economy where service is not valued , this property definitely places an emphasis on service . I truly enjoy living here. I accidentally dropped my apartment keys down the elevator shaft, and while my rental company (BlueGround) offered no help, J.J. came to my rescue--on a Sunday! He was kind, patient, and incredibly competent. He retrieved my keys quickly, saved me hundreds of dollars, and made the whole ordeal stress-free. Mr. Garcia is a rare gem these days. Good luck getting a hold of someone here! Red flag #1 They don't answer the phone or call back. Red flag #2 After 4 days of calling and leaving voicemails, you finally get someone on the phone, by the name of Sydney, who says good morning when it's 2:30PM ... clearly oblivious to the fact that it's the afternoon. I wonder what she had been doing for the past 4 days? Definitely not working. Red flag #3 Forget trying to crack a joke, she's seething with hate and rage and gets passive aggressive, rude, and condescending. Red flag #5 she never sent the information she was supposed to send. Sooo she again, doesn't do her job, clearly. Finally, red flag #5 someone from the office calls you 3 days after your last voicemail - and when you tell her you had a bad experience with Sydney she says "Ok, that's your opinion, and hangs up." Don't paint red flags green folks. The management is clearly miserable, hate their lives, and a clear indication that they will try to make your life just as bad. RUN RUN RUUUUN FARRR FAR AWAY! Stayed there 6 years ago. Out of 10+ luxury apartments, this one stood at as a horrible experience. Worst appliances, plumbing, and overall dated feel especially when you consider the pricing. Horrible electric and internet service you have no choice but to use them, overcharge you just like the apartments. Location looks great, but this pier is where the bridge and tunnel crowd likes to take their families. Manager at the time seemed like an evil witch. I have been a resident for over 3 years. I have loved every moment in this dog friendly community. Resident Management and Maintenance are very responsive and takes care of their clients immediately. Not only do you have great amenities like the pool overlooking the Redondo pier area, you get a great dog parent community on the top of it. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for the perfect beach life in the South bay. Also, I would like to take a moment to applaud the maintenance crew, especially Bryan. Every maintenance service request I submitted was addressed in a timely manner. He is always polite and professional. We have been very happy with the service. read more

Wow did the rose colored glasses fall off quickly. Where do I begin? I only lasted a year here. Wish I could have left sooner but it's about $6k to break your lease. Once you get past the awe of the views and the pool, it's all downhill from there. 1) Good luck getting maintenance done. On-call? What a joke. My sinks flooded (apparently an issue with plumbing up or downstairs) and it was nearly impossible to get someone over. I spent hours on the phone with whoever the third party is that's supposed to get someone to come fix your problem. They literally said to me "We've tried every single person and no one's picking up. To be honest, they're probably all watching the super bowl so it's going to be hard to get someone out there today." All of this while my apartment is flooding. Then they suggested I call someone (a plumber, etc.) on my own- but the company likely wouldn't cover it. They were finally able to reach someone once the game ended and they got to my place around 10 PM. 2) I had issue after issue with the water temperature. During my last few months at Ocean Club, they did some work and after, my shower water would go from cold, to scolding, back to cold, etc. each time without me touching anything. I wrote in about this to have them come fix it. They came and simply left a note that read "to help with temp turn on hot water completely then slowly turn on cold water to reach desired temperature." This did NOT help, and that is not "fixing" a problem at all. 3) I got locked inside of the garage once when my remote control clicker died. I called "on-call" and they told me there was nothing they could do, they would attempt to reach someone. Never got a call back. They said someone would call me back to let me know either who to call or when they found someone to let me out. No one ever did. The entire night. Had to wait for someone to drive in to let me out. 3) The balconies are in terrible shape. They did a "balcony maintenance" thing one week (where we had to take everything off for 5 or so days. They painted the entire side of the building a hideous bright blue. They did nothing to fix the falling apart balconies. 4) Expect to be unable to park in your garage at least once a month for few days at a time. For cleaning, construction, or whatever it may be. I'd often come home to a notice on my door letting me know that I wouldn't be able to park in my spot for the next 3-5 days. 5) Make sure you check your bill every month. Be vigilant. I didn't find out until after I left that I was being charged TWICE for electricity. For my address and another Ocean Club address. I was told when I first started my lease (photo attached) that I was to pay my electricity separately. Then when I got my final statement, I noticed I had been paying electricity both on my own AND Ocean Club had been charing it monthly. It ended up being the electric company who mis-input my address, however, Ocean Club was the opposite of helpful in helping me get it back nor did they ever explain how this could happen or WHY they told me to pay it separately. Didn't even acknowledge it when I sent them the documentation showing them what I'd been told. I could go on and on what's wrong with this place. Zara and Megan were the only good thing about this apartment complex, and they're both gone now (I don't blame them). Save your money- seriously. This place is an absolute scam. I'm sure someone will eloquently respond to this post trying to contradict these points, saying they tried to work with me or fix these problems, or I should have done more to make them more aware, etc. That just isn't true. Do yourself a favor, look somewhere else. P.S. They push you SO HARD to write a nice yelp review upon moving in which I did originally begin Zara and Megan were so lovely. Wonderful place to live with a strong community vibe. Shared spaces are well taken care of, and although apartments are small the outdoor spaces compensate. Not recommended for families especially those with small children - noise is very unwelcome and screaming kids aren't tolerated - 3 noise complaints and you are asked to move out - which is fantastic. There were issues with management playing loud music at the pool particularly during weekdays but corporate quickly responded to complaints and it's no longer an issue. We don't have WiFi at the pool which is disappointing. Security feels pretty good with few issues. I'd recommend this place to singles and couples. Some buildings and apartments are more modern than others, as rents are similar try to get one with a balcony view or you will regret it. read more

I received a 3 day notice from Wendy Zimmerman, saying that my request for a refund was harassment, they claimed that the broken fire detectors in my apartment that I asked to be replaced : were intentionally removed by me, they stated that my four level mattress bed, which sits on a brown leather bed frame are trash mattress on the floor. These are all lies and fabricated to intimidate me. These people are vindictive. Thank goodness for YELP AND THE LEGAL SYSTEM. I am reporting them to HUD and the department of weights and measures for not properly displaying utility usage to the renters. I am also looking into legal recourse for the items I returned and did not receive my refund, for the misinformation and harassment. I've lived here for over a year now. The amenities are always clean and serviced. The pool seems to be cleaned every day. One terrible office staff named Sunny is the only reason this place wouldn't have 5 stars from me. Her attitude towards tenants is very rude, critical and unkind. She behaves as if she hates people. I thought she only behaved that way toward me but I've heard it from other tenants as well. When I ask her a question she responds as if I should already know the answer, I don't work there, that's why I'm asking. It's gotten so bad that I won't go the property office if she's there. Worst experience of my life... with a leasing office. My wife and I called multiple times to inquire about available units. After various attempts and no response I finally got ahold on Sydney. I tried to introduce myself with warm conversation, but was immediately met with a rude and condescending demeanor. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and moved on, but she proceeded to be snarky and short. I scheduled an appointment to view an apartment but was never sent any sort of confirmation. An hour or so later, I received a call back from the leasing office to confirm my appointment. I expressed my frustrations with the office manager, and shared some feedback of my interaction with Sydney, in hopes this could be useful for improving there customer experience. Unfortunately I was met with even more sass and belittling tone. All though the units here look intriguing, I will definitely not be moving forward with Ocean Club. read more

Has a nice vibe but you cannot get reliable internet to the rooms. Took me 6 days just to get something and then have only had about 2 days of solid internet out out 2 weeks. I really didn't know internet could be so bad. You only have one provider to choose from for internet and tv. And you only have one speed to choose from even though they lead you to believe there are multiple. If you need to do work out of here or want to watch tv you should reconsider. It is Sunday, and so far today no internet for 5 hours. Last 5 days have had it for about 30 minutes on and 5 minutes off. Their provider is Smartaira. It seems like their equipment may be overloaded. Whatever is the problem it leaves tenants without internet and tv. No technical support either. The wait can be from 3 hours to over 30 when you call. read more

I moved into a nice one-bed room apartment at Ocean Club a few month ago. I am very happy to live here. The apartment is clean and staffs are very professional and friendly. The community itself is like a park, palm tress, flowers, bridges, and several water fountain. Two things that I really enjoyed here are beach access and view from my balcony. Our heater went out Sunday night and we sent in a service order to the office. Monday morning I called the office to confirm they got it. Wendy the manager there said yes they have the order and will be out to repair it soon. We left for a couple of hours and when we came back the heater was replaced and every thing was all cleaned up. We have had a couple of other service calls needed. Drain plugged, Garbage disposal clogged, Etc. The maintenance team was super responsive and did great cleanups after they finished. We love it here. I would give Ocean Club a 10 if I could. read more

Strongly not recommend here for living, below are reasons: 1. The buildings are too old, so are most facilities, e.g., toilets bowl, shower, faucet, cooktop, etc. It is hard to notice when doing a tour. But, once you are in, turns out everything is not working so good. 2. The rental fee is too high; the rental policy is so strict and not reasonable; 3. The neighborhood is not really nice, e.g., noisy throughout daylight to midnight, including but not limited to maintenance work, dogs barking, alarm of autos, loud PRIVATE chatting in the balcony. And no one cares. Only some of the property management staff are really nice. read more

When I first moved in the building was going through a complete renovation, since then most of the property has been updated, the pool is incredible, the views are amazing and the staff of Melani, Jessica, Katty, and Wendy are super helpful. I've lived here for a year and have recently rented another spot here for my office since I work from home and needed something separate. It truly is one of the best places I've rented from. And I've rented from a lot of places over the years. Each person who works here has been extremely helpful. From Wendy in the main office who is consistently responsive and goes above and beyond to find a solution for challenges and requests to Lou and Bryan who do an amazing job tackling any maintenance issue under the sun. They are each quick to follow up and follow through. They are extremely thoughtful about the fact that our apartments are our homes. Whether it's being considerate of when they enter to help with an issue or it's simply communicating in the meantime so you're not left guessing when an issue will get handled. The property is gorgeous and the views don't hurt either. It is right by the pier. I happen to love the sounds of the crowd that comes here, mainly on the weekends. But others may not enjoy that you're so close to the activities and hustle and bustle that comes with living by the pier. Most days are pretty quiet and peaceful. And with the windows shut you don't hear much on busy nights/days. It also depends where your apartment is. Ours is right over the pier, by choice. The apartments further back probably have less of the hustle and bustle. They have a security guard on post every night who is very alert without feeling overbearing. Plenty of guest parking which is nice too. read more

Great place with a real resort feel. The pool is wonderful and views of the harbor from the upper terrace of the pool are terrific.

We have not been living here very long but so far it has been wonderful. All of the staff are kind and work hard to make the Ocean Club a great place to live. Another aspect that was very important to us in choosing the Ocean Club was the location. Not only does it have a nice pool and an excellent gym, but it also has close access to the coast and all of the magnificent beaches and bikes paths that accompany it. read more

The Staff at The Ocean Club is unbelievably helpful and no task is too much for them. They are such a joy to deal with I almost invent reasons to contact them. They are personable, knowledgeable and eager to help in any way they can. The services and amenities are abundant. I really like living at the Ocean Club thanks to the staff here including Frank the maintenance person who has been a great asset for fixing every and anything in a trustworthy and efficient manner. I moved in two weeks ago to a one bedroom apartment. The facilities are in excellent shape, the management and staff are extremely helpful and helped my move go very smoothly (they went above and beyond helping me get moved in). The service staff are also very quick to respond to requests for the apartment. The place feels like a Hawaii resort. Full gym, pool, hot tub, really nice grounds. Couldn't be happier with the place. The website pictures match how the actual place is. Really sweet views of the pier and ocean as well. Also, the other tenants that live here all seem very friendly. I checked out some other "luxury" apartments nearby in Hermosa Beach and the management team nor the units compare to Ocean Club. Very happy to be living here. I lived at the Ocean Club for 2 years. I paid over $2000/mo for 460 square feet. I lived right next to the leasing office - so the grounds outside we always beautifully maintained to a fault. The impression that they want to give their perspective residents as well as investors is that everything they have to offer is quality... when if fact that is not the case. Granted we all want to live near the incredible ocean and watch sunsets at night and have great amenities. And you do get all of that. But BEWARE!!!!!! The inside - where it's your home that you are paying good money for is where the issues really hide. When I moved into the village and did the first walkthru it's with one of the office staff waiting for you to check off the list that everything is good. Then when you start unpacking and putting things away that you see all the problem and beyond poor quality of work. I am attaching photos so I can back up my review and make sure that I'm helping you in the decision making of where to spend your money or what to expect of you do decide to move into The Ocean Club. The office manager - Diane is made of ice. She has no passion - compassion - empathy and she when she speaks to you or responds to an email - she always sounds as tho she is reading from the manual of how to be a cold hearted corporate monster... Ice cold for that matter. The girls in the office are ok... David in the office is the one who stood out to me because he was always kind and considerate enough that you actually felt like he cared. I had so many issues within my apartment you'd almost think it was a joke. When the less than qualified maintenance team came in... I could 90% of the time (no exaggeration) count on it being done either wrong or that something else would be wrong because of their negligence after they completed their repairs. Wh I moved in and wondered why my stuff under the bathroom sink was wet - I realized while under the sink that I can see light thru the crack that was almost the entire length of the sink. The tank cover on the toilet was the cover to go with my toilet so not only was it annoying because every time you put the lid or seat up it moved but it also sprayed water on the floor when the tank was filling. The water supply to the toilet was bent and when I asked them to fix it they just put a new wall plate over the still bent water supply. The fixtures in the tub were all crooked. The no ventilation make everything rust. The closet doors never stay on. I gave me closet rage. I finally put them in the hallway to make them just take them away. When I didn't have my keys I can easily climb over the patio to get into my apartment. The rodent trap right there always freaked me out tho so you need to make sure that your screen is working in preset to keep it closed. My husband had to fix ours tho. The kitchen sink faucet was lose - the smoke detector went off every time I did anything even using my toaster. The kitchen drawers are i such incredibly poor quality and when they (they bring the maintenance manager) fixed them - what he thought was suitable made me cry. The hinges on the cabinets were disgusting the paint on the cabinets was disgusting! The oven didn't work so they replaced the knobs as if that would miraculously make the oven work. When they repaired an outlet - they left a hold in the wall abouve it as is I wouldn't notice it. When they fixed a leak in the bathroom they dented my towel rack and left it as tho I wouldn't notice it. When they replaced the toilet it took 3 times to get it right. When Jason the mai tan ace manager fixed my closet - I hung my clothes back up and at about 4:50 pm on Friday when I was almost done the rack came crashing down. I guess the 4 nails he used he really expected to hold up and 11' rod. Hen Diane said when I immediately called - her reply was that it was almost 5:00 on Friday and because it's not considered an emergency that it would have to wait till maintenance can get to it the next week. My husband fixed it tho and he fixed it right. Where it won't fall off because of the man in charge only putting 4 nails. I am attaching photos of everything in the apartment - before and after which should make you not want to waste your money. And I can not tell you how incredibly frustrating it is to watch them waste thousand and thousands of dollars on the outside. It's like a beautiful person on the outside and a monster on the inside. Bottom line it's your decision how you wanna spend your money but I just wanted to let you know that if you do choose to spend your money here how it's being spent. read more
