This gallery will treat you like dirt if they suspect that you are not rich enough to afford their over-priced displays. I have never been treated with such disrespect as the day I decided to go to the gallery on Easter weekend with my Aunt. This gallery held an Easter exhibit, and my Aunt and I showed up to view the artwork more than an hour before the advertised closing time. We were the only visitors there at the time, and we were dressed casually because it was a cool, windy and wet Easter weekend. As soon as we stepped in this gallery, the hosts did not condescend to even say "hello" or "welcome" to us. Instead, they sneered at us, followed us around the gallery as if we were going to steal something, rolled their eyes, and whispered and laughed while looking at us. After 10 minutes passed, and my Aunt and I were still the only ones in the gallery, the two hosts started closing down for the night (even though the event was meant to go on for 50 more minutes). They continued to sneer at us and huff and puff, as if we were wasting their precious time. Finally, while I was standing right next to a door, one of the hosts SLAMMED the door for no apparent purpose, scared me, and made me jump and gasp. She offered no apology and instead told me in the nastiest, most condescending manner, "You need to leave."
I am a professional (lawyer) and a life-long resident of Avalon, and I HAVE been to this gallery before numerous times, dressed up in the likes of Lily Pulitzer, and all these previous times, I was waited on hand and foot. I can only assume that was because I was dressed up and appeared wealthier those previous times. I will never step foot in this snobby, over-priced and lackluster art gallery again, and I will spend my money elsewhere. read more
