I ordered off of their website coolframes.com. So I can only speak on behalf of that experience. I ordered my frames last week with insurance. They are an out-of-network provider if you have VSP. They took off $70 from the frame and $30 from the glasses. Their website was a little difficult to use as someone using insurance. I went to the link at the bottom and put my info so they can identify my insurance plan. Once that's done, the page allows you to place an insurance order. I put what i wanted into the cart and submitted. Although an error popped up, they did receive the order. I received an email the next day stating that they could not locate my insurance plan. I responded with my member ID and they sent me a customized invoice. I did have a phone call scheduled to place my order, but that was completely missed. I wrote about this experience on social media and was contact by Lee. Lee explained everything to me including my insurance coverage. We decided together that downgrading my lenses might be more beneficial as my prescription isn't in the extremes. He gave me a partial refund which hit my account today. My glasses arrive today so I will update my review if I notice anything wrong with them. If you're having difficulties, I suggest contacting Lee. He is super helpful and definitely an asset to the coolframes team. read more

Very unprofessional, They give you an appointment and when you show up they tell you the doctor that take your insurance is not in today, and the doctor that do screen seeing appointment don't take your insurance, I don't even know how a doctor can see you true screen to check your eyes, Waste of time, read more

The slew of bad reviews from the last couple years should be telling. The only reason why this place has a 4-star review at the time of this post is because the old management (which apparently changed about 3 years ago) sold to completely incompetent individuals. My wife and I went back in after some time to get a new prescription and a new pair of frames each as we were moving and insurance would be ending. Not only did the prescription I got not work (I ended up wasting $100 bringing it to another store and didn't realize the prescription was wrong until the new pair was made - no refund on deposits obviously) but they ended up breaking my wife's only pair of glasses right in the middle of our move. I can't begin to describe the nightmare of trying to move without being able to properly see. The excuse? "We told you there was a risk in adjusting your old pair." That's essentially like telling someone in a car crash after you hit them, "well you knew the road was dangerous." The idiocy. A professional (definitely not the guys who used to own this place) would never have done something so careless just because "there's a risk" therefore I can treat your glasses however I want. I ordered a pair of script glasses with frames, no issue right. Two weeks later they arrive, look great, script is great, fit great. I wear them 1 day and both temples are loose at the hinges. Very poor quality.BTW this company goes by two names coolframes online and ocean view optical in Brighton beach Avenue, Brooklyn in person SHADY!I contact customer service their solution:"Please advise if you would like you may take the frame to a local optical for the temples of the frames to be tightened more.If you do not feel comfortable with that you can send the frame back to our location and we can have our senior optician adjust/tighten the frame for you."Btw the hinges are pressed into the plastic frames and the hinges are screwless. Maybe this place works if you're local, but their internet sales and offerings are crap. I've tried my best to be a good customer and think I'll probably end up throwing the replacement pair of glass they sent me [first pair were total "fuster cluck" - put my prescription into a pair of frames that wouldn't work!]. The replacement pair really don't fit well. Prescription is fine, but frames slip, are too big and really are useless. I've written to seek a replacement, but feel my chances are between slim and none. The person I communicated with used the name Genesis, but I think they all hide behind pseudonyms. I am very disappointed in the customer care of this optical store. I made at appointment for an eye exam at 4:30. When I arrived at my appointment time there were other people without appointments there who were allowed to go ahead of me to see the doctor. I ended up waiting for 2 hours to be seen. Great selection! Friendly staff. Knowledgeable staff as well. Minus one person(a little flat and grumpy). But don't let that discourage you. The other staff makes up for it. Lol They helped me pick the perfect glasses for ME. The glasses' functionality was a little off due to the manufacturing process (anomaly which occurs ever so often), which didn't give me the sharpness I so desperately needed when reading far away lettering. The problem was diagnosed and remedied even though I had waited a lil to long to address it. Just waiting on my new and improved specks now. Metered parking almost always available. Flash back to last two years ago, check your email i sent date of 06.03.2018 about why I complained about Kristina.She was so rude with a bad attitude, no manners in the way she talks to customer with no respect. now after two years the same person kristina give me the same hard time I was asking her for frame ideas and she was not accommodating to what I wanted. As the home of Coolframes online store I placed my order and the glasses were sent quickly. Apparently there was an error on my end inputting my prescription and the glasses came with the manufacturer lenses. After a call and email to customer support I was advised to return then and the lenses would be replaced for my prescription. I will say the customer service agent was rude, however as long as I get my glasses back with the prescription I will be satisfied, as we have to take the good with the bad. read more

I don't normally write reviews. In this case, I felt compelled. I'm ABSOLUTELY ELATED with the entire experience with Cool Frames and its ownership. I wear progressives. I'm insured by Eyemed. Within my policy, I was due for frames/lenses. I went to a local Eyeglass shop on Staten Island. I'm not going to name names but long story short, I was quoted $825 for a pair of Seraphin frames and the lenses. The frames, unbeknownst to me were over $500 at that location. Additionally they wouldn't process my insurance there and said that "Eyemed" would likely reimburse me $250. It was very clear to me that these shop owners were looking to hit "a home run" on this purchase. I walked out explaining that the frames were out of my price range. Enter Ocean Eyes Optical .. I found the SAME EXACT FRAMES on their website for $270. I called the store directly. Lee, the shop owner ordered the frames for me (on good faith) scheduled an exam, ultimately put BETTER quality progressives in and processed my insurance. The service was UNBELIEVABLE. Best part... Those SAME EXACT FRAMES WITH BETTER LENSES... my out of pocket cost was $163.47. I put these glasses on and it was like a whole new world. Apparently the same shop that was looking to beat me up on price, cut and measured the last pair I bought from them entirely wrong. Ocean Eyes Optical has not only earned my trust, they've earned my STRONG RECOMMENDATION. These folks are professional, efficient, beyond fair, and stand behind their work. I want to share with other customers who decide to buy glasses in this fraudulent store, as they did to me. A year ago, almost, on the recommendation of an acquaintance, I went to this fool's shop. When I called to make an appointment with a doctor to check my vision, a Russian girl said that they were taking my insurance, but when I came to the appointed time, another said no. I had to pay, because I needed glasses, my eyesight was very bad and I agreed to pay. After that I was given a very unqualified salesperson Kristina, who was constantly distracted by other customers. It felt like the store had to get rid of outdated eyeglasses before they came in and so the store was full of customers! Anyway, I settled on a very thin frame of glasses as I planned to wear them all day. I paid a decent price $$$ for them + lenses $$$ which they had to change. When I went to get my glasses and tried them on everything was fine, but within a month they started coming off of me. I went back to the store and the owner Lee told me it's okay we'll fix them for you. Okay, fixed them for a month, then the glasses came off again with one glass out, I asked for a replacement because I realized they were defective. To which I was told nothing bad, they will repair them. Okay, I liked the glasses! I agreed which I regret very much, because it will be a year since I bought these glasses from this fraudulent store and I have already stopped keeping track of how many times they fixed them for me. Angela has immaculate taste in what color/shape fits your face and gives you plenty of options to choose from. Some say they are pricey but they always carry current season frames and provide the best lenses with the best customer service. Recently bought a D&G frame for myself with Crizal Alize lenses. I highly do not recommend this place which is rude to customers if they wish to change their order within 24 hours. If you change your mind they will deny you business. - Ordered lense and frames from this business, from sales agent Kristina as an out of state customer. Within 24 hours I called to ask to reduce my order to frames only due to the inability to return to the store in person if i had any issues with the lense. The sales agent Kristina told me that in order to take the frames only she would need to cancel my entire order and redo the order as a frames only. She advised that the insurance company will probably close within the next hour and that she will call the insurance in the next 4 days (Monday, the next business day). to avoid any issues with return policies I Immediately called my insurance company which confirmed they would be open for in fact the next 3 hours, and could help cancel the insurance claim. My insurance company was able to do this within the same day less than 30 minutes. Two weeks later when I called Ocean Opticals, Kristina, to proceed with the next step which we agreed to order only my frames, and exclude lenses due to my comfortability with being out of state, Kristina told me she could not proceed with my order. Kristina said she could not proceed with my order due to the way she believed things ended, and would need to ask the owner if they can do business with me and wanted to call me back the next day with her decision. I was confused as Kristina advised to cancel the entire order, and to start over the process. After spending countless hours visiting about 6 name brand eyeglass stores where I live in NJ to look for my first pair of glasses and leaving feeling like all were overpriced and service not very helpful, I discovered the coolframes.com site and liked the assortment and prices. When I saw they had a store and called them by phone, my intuition told me to go make the trip to Brooklyn and check it out. So glad that my intuition was right on track. From the moment I walked in, David was right on top of things. He immediately picked good selection of frames he thought would suit my face. Once we narrowed it down to the perfect one for me, my order was done and in within an hour of arriving. And, the price beat anything else for designer frames with progressive (Varilux) and (Crysal) lenses. (I have no insurance). The girl helping me pick out frames was judgemental and won't even speak to me when I asked which frame would suit me the best. She merely pointed and acted like I was undeserving to even be in their store. The male optical technician was much friendlier when I went to pick them up. My friend and I got very upset by visiting the very unprofessional, nasty and disrespectable eyeglass store, Ocean View Optical in Brighton Beach. We walked away from the bad store. When he phoned his eye doctor, he was recommended to visit this eyeglass store, Ocean Eyes Optical in Sheepshead Bay. It was in the neighbough, so, we visited there. My friend wanted a new pair of eyeglasses. They had more selction and varieties of frames (than the previous store). Also, their customer service for selecting right eyeglass frame and following the specific doctor's detailed prescription was truly excellent (unlike the previous store). My friend said the eyeglass is a very complex medical equipment, and he can't ask someone to make his eyeglass if he can't trust him/her. I agree with him 100%. We also saw happy customers there picking up their newly made eyeglass. We were very happy to stop by this excellent eyeglasss store at the end of the day. When he pick up his new eyeglass in a few weeks, I hope to write about it here again. The Manhattan quality for the Brooklyn price. I highly recommend this eyeglass store. read more
